A look ahead at conference play...

What should they have done, oh wise one?

UC made 2 BCS Bowls in a row but did nothing to elevate the program. They should have done the renovations after the Sugar Bowl season, and maybe we could be talking about the basketball situation right now. Everything in this AD has been run at a MAC level until last year. This new Nippert renovation is simply a desperate attempt to catch up even though the window is closed....

So an Athletic Director and President who weren't in place when UC went to two BCS games should have renovated Nippert? Yup. Ok.

Making BCS Bowls and facility renovations have next to nothing to do with getting into a P5 Conference. Rutgers got in the Big 10 because they are in a market that has 10 million TV sets. Ono and Babcock cannot move the UC campus to the New York City area.

That article makes sense. Ultimately, when TV money dictates the need to expand, the Big 12 will do so and I think UC has a better than average chance to be included. I would be surprised if it happens in the next couple of years though. I think it will happen once Fox Sports One expands with more channels.

Yeah the article sounds like they are just guessing based on what makes sense IF they expand. Though I did like how they talked about Luck getting the Big 12 job. WVU is out in no-mans-land right now and it is just logical that if/when they expand, there willbe a midwest/eastern team in there.

Tell Louisville and TCU that.....

Lol you guys are so cute. Ono and Babcock have done nothing but hire a retread football coach without a formal interview and deciding to renovate the football stadium after being passed up.

Look around UC boards and you will see folks fawning over these two.....

Hopefully it isn't Cincinnati. I have zero interest in that league...

TCU is located in Dallas/Ft. Worth and the Big 12 had to get to 10 members quickly as their TV contract with Fox requires a minimum 10 team conference. TCU could join immediately as they were not yet officially in the Big East, they did pay the Big East $5 million to get out of joining. Fox told the Big 12 to get West Virginia rather than Louisville, West Virginia had to pay the Big East $20 million to get out without waiting 27 months. When Maryland decided to join the Big 10, ESPN told the ACC to replace them with Louisville. TV is in control of conference realignment.

So you have no interest in our current situation, and you have no interest in essentially our only chance to get into a power conference in the next ten year? I'm guessing your logic is that the Big 12 will collapse anyway, and it might, but it is better to be on that ship than this one if only for financial reasons. Not judging, actually curious, what is your plan if not the AAC and not the Big 12?

I didn't say they are great, though I do like both and think they have done a nice job in their short time in their positions. My only point was that your reason to not like them is based on something that occurred BEFORE they arrived. That's not sound logic.

Babcock hired a retread without even an interview. That could come back to haunt this University...

You must be experiencing some memory loss. 1) If I do recall, Butch Jones went 4-8 in his first year here, 2) changes in coaching staff can be very difficult, and 3) this season isn't over yet. Tommy Tuberville has finished with above 7 wins 11 times in his 17 year career and above 8 wins 9 times in his 17 year career. The lowest number of games he has ever won is 5 games. He went undefeated in the SEC, the greatest conference in all college football. While he has definitely not be really impressive so far, he deserves as much time as all the other coaches we have had. You can't truly start to judge a coach until after his 2-3 season. If we finish 9-3 or 8-4 this year, I think that is all you can really expect out of a first year coach, even if he had a weak schedule. If he can go 8-4 or 9-3 consistently here and we upgrade facilities/possibly get into a new conference in a few years, I'd say he is a good coach.

This is quite possibly the worst schedule I have ever seen. The teams Cincinnati beat have ZERO wins over FBS schools. This team is bad and it will continue to get worse after this year. Doesn't matter to me anymore though...

Don't matter how you paint it, that stat doesn't lie.

Maybe so, but you can only play the teams on your schedule. It doesn't matter who you beat, it's how many you beat. In a couple years no one will remember that the schedule was so bad. They will only remember if UC went to a bowl game or not and the overall record. In a transition year, it is probably a good thing that the schedule sucks. It's never easy having a new coaching staff.

This meltdown seems very familiar. Lots of people did the same thing during Butch's first year...then they liked him...then they started calling him Lyle and saying how we are so much better off without him.

Let's see what this team looks like the end of TT's 3rd season to make final judgement.

Agreed the Lyle stuff is juvenile. Hopefully Tommys team can improve throughout the year, not only for this year, but momentum moving forward.

I hope we see improvement with the team this year. Winning on the road would be a start. (Not really counting Miami) I am really excited for next couple years with Gunner Kiel. Big time recruit with something to prove.
