L-T do you ever have anything positive to say about our program? Mick isn't good enough, our conference isn't, our arena sucks, recruits are mediocre... Pretty hard to please it seems like.
Have no problem with him voicing his opinion. I rarely agree with him but he has deep ties to the university and he spends his money to go to the games. As we used to say in the Military he has his ass in the grass.

He backs up everything he says and makes many valid points. Did not mean for it to be a personal attack

Well a day or so ago, you were commenting, "Bravo sir. Bravo." to one of my posts, so I guess the answer to your question is yes.

I support the program the correct way. I buy my tickets and attend every game every year. I travel to some away games and tournaments. I attend all the league tournaments. I attend all postseason tournaments. I've earned the right to cheer or complain about the program in any way I see fit.

Here's the difference in the way I post and the way everyone else posts. I post about the good and the bad, which is the way a fan should act, because God knows, the news is not always good. On these fan forums, if you go against the grain, your a pariah, and you stand out like a sore thumb. So, I will post many positive things, but nobody thinks I do because all they remember are the posts where I went against the grain.

To your comments, you posted falsely like many others on here. I have complimented the Shoe way more than anyone else on here. The rest of you have blamed all of Mick's problems on our arena. I did see some faults with the upgrade renderings and I voiced those. If you think the AAC is good enough, you are in the "vast" minority. A team ranked #34 would be considered mediocre. That's a 8-9 seed in the tournament. Therefore, a recruiting class ranked #34 would be classified mediocre as well wouldn't it? Again, our goal is to be annually in the Top 25. Until the coach, recruiting class, facilities, fan support, etc. are all ranked Top 25, it will be difficult for the Team to get there.

I can't find the final voting on the AP coach of the year, but that would be the true measuring stick on where the national writers see him. He was in consideration until the end, and very well could have been in top 10. Going off some journalists list is not the end all. Journalists all have agendas and need clicks and subscriptions to drive them and keep them in business.

Bottom line, who cares what some publication thinks about Mick, he is here, not going anywhere and by all indications doesn't want to go anywhere.

PB, here's the falacy with your point of view. The 2012 Coach of the Year in the Big East, when the Big East was the juggernaut conference of the whole world for all eternity, was Stan Heath. Stan Heath got S. Fla to their 1st postseason tournament in 8 years when he got them to the NIT in 2010. Then 2 years later, hes gets them to their first NCAA Tournament in 20 years. Not only that, he knocks off #12 seed California, and #5 seed Temple in the tournament. Two years later, he's fired. So, these little one-year coaching honors really mean nothing. If a guy can be coach of the year in the best conference of all time and get fired 2 years later, that demonstrates how much that stuff means. The goal is to have the program in the Top 20, not the coach. But obviously, a top 20 coach has a better chance of getting the program in the top 20.

Recruiting class rankings are guesses. Outside of the Kentucky and Dukes of the world who sign multiple McDonalds all Americans it is an educated guess. Until the recruits arrive on campus and play nobody really knows.

A class ranked 34 puts you in the top 11-12 percent of division 1 basketball. I'd like to see top 20 class rankings but all I really care about is winning and going to the NCAA EVERY YEAR and I want some deep runs to keep the program visible and viable.

New facilities are a must. The program has been winning so fan support is fickle as it is with every Cincinnati sport.

What is so wrong with a 8-9 seed?

The championship game last year was a 7 vs 8. In 2011 Butler went to the championship as a 8 seed also.

Recruiting clad rankings are guesses. Outside of the Kentucky and Dukes of the world who sign multiple McDonalds all Americans out is an educated guess. Until the recruits arrive on campus and play nobody really knows.

I saw someone yesterday say on twitter that Kentucky has more McDAA's than the Lakers.

A clad talked

I agree Jeff. The coach/system and culture are much more important than the # or * next to their name. I usually don't doubt the 5* players, but across the whole country it is impossiblt to rank players 40-250 based on talent alone.

I was talking about National coach of the year, that should be the measuring stick, not a publication.

I agree with 99% of your posts and you nailed it yesterday. Yes, my post today was premature and false. I'll own that. This board would be pretty boring with nothing but "we are the best" type posts all the time. I appreciate the loyalty and support you show in actually going to the games. It was more reading the few today on Cronin.

As far as the recruiting class goes, the debate has been said over and over again. Those rankings are flawed. We only had 3 players to sign and we filled our needs nicely. We gain our 13th player and the other 2 should easily replace Guyn and Sanders' production over their 4 years. Yes, they could be ranked higher, be McDonald's All-Americans, taller, quicker, whatever it is, but they are what they are.

Current ranking is perfect right where it is. We lost 3 key players and bring in 7 new faces. Just because we start the season there does not mean we are on the decline or will end there. We will most likely hit the top 25 this season. THIS season making the tournament and losing in the 1st or 2nd round is acceptable. Next year, not so much

I was talking about National coach of the year, that should be the measuring stick, not a publication.

In 2012, the Associated Press National Coach of the year, and the winner of the Henry Iba Award as the National Coach of the year, was Frank Haith of Missouri. Last year, Missouri was prepared to fire him. There was a "Fire Frank Haith" Facebook page started by Missouri fans. Instead of waiting his fate, he bolted town to coach Tulsa in the illustrious AAC. Once again, even a "National" Coach of the Year honor means nothing in the big picture. Again, it's all about what the team accomplished. What got Frank run out of town? Two 23 win seasons back to back in the SEC.

In the end this is a game. Some fans take it to serious. I have a sister who has been in icu for two weeks that's serious. Sports are entertainment and an escape. Period.

Reality check! Sorry to hear that Jeff. I will make sure to include her in my prayers. I hope there is good news on that front coming soon for you.

Has anyone seen this? I think Cincinnati is mentioned 1 time on the very last page in the standings.

"Brendan O'Meara covers a wide range of sports, but focuses much of his energies on horse racing. He's the author of "Six Weeks in Saratoga: How Three-Year-Old Filly Rachel Alexandra Beat the Boys and Became Horse of the Year" (SUNY Press, 2011)."

Maybe he should stick with the ponies. Good thing for that last page, otherwise I would say he forgot we won the conference last year

LT, you have many great points. I believe that many of these awards are based expectations, if you exceed them you are honored, not necessarily based on coaching solely.
