This article spells it out pretty clear that we saw a drop in attendance this year. I know it has been a topic of late so I thought I would share:

http://cincinnati.com/blogs/uc/2014/02/26/attendance-is-up-at-uc-but-down-for-the-year/

We don't really need to rehash the why's and what's of attendance as we have done way too much of it on these boards, but bottom line is this is unacceptable in my opinion from our fanbase. Our team deserves better.

Its a must we get more involved in the community. We should ALWAYS fill up games with students, schools, community centers and churches. You'll get any kid you want in area if we involved community more and did more off campus promotion. The average high school basketball player in area couldn't tell you our starting five, guarantee they know Kentucky, Duke and Kansas. I'm not for moving all games downtown but primetime games should be on banks.

Coming off a team that fizzled out the second half of the season and leaving the Big East really hurt our momentum, as well as attendance OOC . Seeing that our AAC schedule is pushing 11k. I really hope this team can finish this year strong.

Like I've stated previously, it's too bad we have three key guys leaving after this season. If we were supposed to be this good again next year, and were to have a preseason ranking, I think with the momentum from this year we could average 10-11k next year. Unfortunately, I think there's going to be a lot to overcome, which will keep those fair-weather/flaky fans at home. It actually gets me mad just typing that, but unfortunately I think it's true. If there's any doubt about making the NCAA Tourney, most fans are at home, unless it's a huge game.

Anyone think that attendance could be off because of the record setting cold winter. Just a question. Also as I have posted on here a couple of times attendance is down across the board in college BB. While attendance was down early counting a Memphis sell out it will be the first time since 2004-05 season that we sold out 3 straight games.

I don't think so, mainly because our games where we didn't sell many were in November and early-mid December. It wasn't THAT cold then, was it? I remember it getting intense in early January but I could be wrong.

good point. The winter has been so long I don't remember when it wasn't cold. I do think road conditions may of had a part in crowd size. We have had a lot of snow in dec.

I feel like attendance has been down in all major sports. The experience you can get at home now with high def TV and the prices are keeping people at home. I make sure to watch every game I can and plan ahead to record it if I can't, like most of you probably. I have talked with lots of fans that actually prefer watching from home.

I do think having the games downtown would help. People could get off work and just hangout downtown until tipoff at 7. Students will show up regardless. If we had shuttles connecting Clifton to the Banks, students would be down there at the game or at the bars. I know I would

Found this comment on another site. Guy who posted it makes some sense.

don't let the facts get in the way of a good argument. Our attendance (even w/ bad weather, bad OOC games, and not being able to count an automatic 13,176 for X) would be 6th in the Big Twelevten and 7th in the ACC, solidly midpack in both conferences and the 2nd best "big-city" school (i consider Austin to be a big city).

Guys there are many factors as to why the attendance is lower this year....

1) Cincinnati played 10 OOC home games this season vs 8 OOC home games last year.

2) Better game times last year vs this year. The best two OOC home games were NC State and Nebraska and one was played at 5pm on a weekday in November and the other was played while students were on break.

3) Alabama, New Mexico and Wright State all drew better than any OOC home game this year.

4) Next year will be better because the OOC schedule is better. They will play road games against Nebraska and NC State, probably a neutral game against Xavier, 2 games in Florida, possibly another neutral site game. That eliminates 6 of the 13 OOC games. Of the 7 home games, it appears we'll have VCU and San Diego State both of which will draw decently....
