Still a little frustrated at the lack of chatter in the FB forum.

Other than the first half of the first quarter we have looked pretty good. We have played pretty good "bend don't break D" with the number 1 yards per game QB in D1 (I think).

Perhaps we (and our coaches) aren't as bad as a lot of the pessimists thought? Not sure but I think they have been playing much better lately. Can't win em all by 20+ points...just win baby.

Payne just dropped a big hit on kickoff!

UC has have looked very in control after the 1st quarter. Too bad all the students left at half once again. Poor showing. This has actually been a pretty entertaining game to watch! But of course right when I am texting this we fumble. :-/

On the bright side. More than half the people who left during the 2nd half, haven't had to watch this epic melt down.

I don't think I would refer to it as "epic meltdown". If we don't have a player fumble when we are going in to score we are looking at 28-10. If you add to that we were playing prevent D for much of the 4th quarter they may never have scored another TD...because we held them scoreless with our traditional D from the second half of the 1st quarter until after the fumble in the 4th (I think).

It's all similar to the way Kelly would coach. Bend don't break D and then prevent D when the game was in hand which usually allowed the other team to come back some. I thought the coaches called a pretty good game actually. Again...other than the fumble...prevent D is just textbook stuff for a lot of coaches.

I thought we controlled the game from the second half of the 1st quarter until the last half of the 4th quarter...so for about 3 quarters we played very well. The last half of the 4th quarter was prevent D. So other than the 1st half of the 1st quarter...I think we did a good job.

Maybe I am blinded by my optimism...I can't say that's never happened before:)

I completely agree. We def were in control the entire game til the last 8 min. If Green's fumble never happened I think it wouldn't have been close. I was impressed with how we kept SMU off the field. Once again, the turnovers we had made it closer than what it should have been.

Good to get the W. Fun game to be at and watch. Very up and down. The highlight of the game was when the SMU kicker missed the 49-yarder in the first quarter. Wait, what? Oh that's cause yours truly caught the ball and got to wave incomplete with ball in hand to everyone!! Apparently got on TV at the start of the fourth quarter during the goal line non-stand.

Nice work!!! I didn't see that but I have one more highlight...actually a few. UC had some REALLY big hits in the game specifically the 4th quarter. I would say at least 4 "kills" and I was really happy to see that. All of them by DB's. Payne, Edwards, and Wilder to name a few. BOOM! Just layed some guys out.

We also have a DB named Mike Tyson which is nice.

If Green doesn't fumble, this one would have been much different. Much less stressful imo. It was nice to see the ground and pound actually work, hopefully Gran has learned to use Williams and Green between the tackles and let Abernathe be himself. He's not now or ever going to be a bruiser, just work with what you have.

The defense did well, the problem for them was simply so many recieving threats. As an aside, I like our recieving core but I think the most joy I got out of this game(and the previous two) was seeing Luallen get to be on the field and making a difference.

Yeah they did have a few nice hits late. I hated that we played the guys 4 to 5 yards off the line of scrimmage the whole game and just gave them the short passes and the screen passes. I would've like to see them hugging those guys tight and pushing them off at the line. You get up to five yards to contact in college like the NFL right? If anything that might have disrupted their passing game. As a rule of thumb I HATE the prevent defense.

I did like the decision to go for it on fourth and inches rather than kicking a FG to try to take a 6 point lead. Yeah, a FG made (assuming Milliano makes it which is assuming alot) forces them to have to get a TD rather than a FG to tie. But if you get that half a yard the game is over and if you kick you give them the ball with a chance to win it up 3 or up 6 with a minute and a half which is plenty of time in college. I like the decision to go for the win, rather than giving SMU the ball back.

The highlight of the game, probably the season was my catch of the missed FG though. Clearly, hands down.

Yeah, I don't know when they will stop running Abernathy up the middle. I know at Auburn, they ran a two RB system with Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown, so why not here? Put two guys in the backfield and when you want to run it up the middle go the Williams or Green and use Abernathy as an outside runner or in the passing game. Tuberville has almost seem to adopted a spread-type to his offense. Maybe he's done so because that's what this team was recruited for, but I'm like you and most fans, I hate watching Abernathy getting stuffed running up the middle time and time again.
