Belk Bowl is Official

Awesome news, I assumed this is where we'd go had we lost yesterday. My vacation guy crapped out on me so I'll have to scramble to get off, but Charlotte is the easiest city to get to if you're going to drive it. The deadline for priority seating is Wednesday. I hate that they give so little time to make plans.

I'm thinking we will play Virginia Tech. or Miami Fl.

It will likely be North Carolina or Virginia Tech. There are two ACC questions that need to be answered: Will Clemson make the BCS? Will the Chik-Fil-A Bowl take Duke if they lose to FSU? The best case for UC is the answer is no to both questions.

FSU- Title Game
Clemson- Chick-Fil-A
Duke- Sun Bowl (cannot fall lower than the Sun Bowl)
Miami- Russell Athletic Bowl
Virginia Tech- Belk Bowl
------------------------------

However if Clemson gets into the BCS, then everyone gets bumped up one, and UC will play a 6-6 UNC team.

Hope it's Va Tech. Duke and North Carolina back to back years doesn't bode well for a big audience, unless we're talking basketball of course.

BTW Notre Dame just accepted the Pinstripe Bowl. I would have rather had UC in that game, IMO. Sucks that Houston will get a better opponent than Cincinnati.

Notre Dame is certainly a bigger name and it would be nice to have the chance to beat BK, but I'm not so sure Notre Dame is a better opponent on the field than who we will face. Plus playing an outdoor game in NYC will be miserable in January and travel will be much more expensive for fans.

I just got a student bus trip ticket. Transportation, ticket, and two nights at a hotel for $30. What an absolute steal! Can't wait!

Notre Dame had been putting out stories that they wanted to play in a warm weather location and now the accept the Pinstripe? I'm thinking Kelly didn't want to play UC. It doesn't make sense otherwise, and they didn't announce this until after UC officially announced the Belk...

I remember when Notre Dame turned down bowl bids because 8-4 was a bad season. And yeah I can't magine he wants to face us, but there is a pecking order for these bowls and if the Pinstripe Bowl offered them then all the better bowls must've passed them up. Would be interesting to know if they would've accepted it had we gone there though.

Notre Dame didn't have bowl agreements for this year, they only had back ups. The other options were the Hawaii Bowl and the Poinsettia Bowl. After talking about wanting a warm weather location it is very suspicious that they elected to take this one...

SMU with the lead late in the 2nd quarter over UCF. SMU is fighting for a bowl game and since UC lost, UCF is playing for nothing. Even if SMU wins, I will not be upset because a completely different UCF team would have shown up if they knew they had to win.

North Carolina it is. 6-6 (5-3) with no wins or losses that particularly stand out; started the year 0-4 but turned it around. I expect to beat this team. I will be there with 3 others, hoping for another great showing by the team and fans as we outmatch another North Carolina program in a North Carolina bowl game.

Their record is very similar to Duke's last year.

Yawn. Wish it was a bigger name, not another 6-6 team like Duke last year and Vanderbilt the year before.

So it looks like the Belk Bowl starts at 3:20 EST on ESPN, and the UC/Nebraska bball game starts @ 4:00 EST on ESPN2. Gonna need PIP to watch both simultaneously :(

I hate this because now the student section for the bball game will be a joke. Unfortunate.
