Butler

The crowd was booing enough already. The refs knew it was a bad call. He gave them 2 points AND the ball back in addition to their free throws. Instead of it being 2 points, he gave them the chance for 6.

No it was the tech FT first then the shooting foul. But still...not good.

With about 6 minutes left we completely took the air out of the ball and played a possession game. That was the downfall. Should have won this game. And. Turnovers.

Yup, Mick isn't used to having depth against quality opponents but there was no need to slow the game down. We would wear the other team out a lot faster than they could wear us down.

Time to change the starting 5. Cobb needs to come off the bench and Evans is clearly light years ahead of Shaq.

So much for 40-0. Hopefully we go on a rampage after this. I can't imagine this is going to sit well with our players.

We really slowed the game down by fouling. The fouls and turnovers totally limited our chance to push tempo. If you turn the ball over and get a foul at the other end...you probably need to slow the game down to lower the frequency of free points to Butler. The guys did not execute and fouled. The players beat themselves and Cronin beat himself with his emotions....reminded me of a Huggins team.

Can't blame troy for going into prevent with 8min left. Was gassed. Up 8 at least bring jenifer in until 4min timeout. Bad coaching

It's a long season. The goal is to continue to improve and win enough games to get into the tournament. We haven't played anywhere near our best yet. As Evans continues to improve we'll be playing our best in Late February.

What we learned:

1. Caupain can't carry the team for 36+ minutes. He carried us through last week but tonight he showed that he needs a blow from time to time. Frankly, we should be able to squeeze Jenifer in for 6-8 minutes/game if not more (10-12) depending on the opponent. But this is definitely Caupain's team - Mick certainly sees it that way.
2. Evans will be the best offensive player on the team by March. Kid shows know fear or hesitation.
3. Cronin doesn't know how to use these players... yet. He has to learn who is needed when, when to go up-tempo, when to slow it down. Tonight we slowed it down so far that we killed all of our momentum.
4. Ellis lacks 'senior poise in senior moments' Ellis picked up an idiotic technical foul over nothing (giving him his second personal), then later in the second half, after Clark picked up his forth foul, he decides to (aggressively) defend Butler's SG 25 feet from the basket and picks up his 4th foul. We played soft inside defensively for the remainder of the game.
5. The future is bright (see #2). Clark is just as talented as Ellis but isn't overly emotional like Ellis.

We lost in 70's so I'm cool on this loss. Against cupcakes I questioned our defense so I know what needs work. Stop trying switch on every guy

When you have Ellis, Clark and DeBerry - all who can finish down low consistently, all who have plenty of experience - and you shoot 50 shots in a game, it is not acceptable to have 21 of those shots be 3 pointers. That's 42% of the shots are from deep.

Butler shot 19 3-point attempts out of 64. That's 29.6% of their shots from the floor. This is where UC should be...

That one hurt. First off, the refs were really bad. Actually it was the white ref that had it out for UC. The refs and our turnovers kept Butler in the game. I've never seen so many offensive push offs not called.

But, its sad that Butler out hustled us in our own gym. I would not want to be at practice tomorrow. They are going to get drilled. Turnovers killed us. Butler got 14 more offensive shots than us. Mix that with all the free throws Butler had its not wonder why we lost. Just makes it hurt more. I think I saw at least 3 times UC didn't "meet" the pass and Butler got the ball. I mean that's bball 101.

Everyone wants UC to score more but when we don't take care of the ball and get out hustled it won't matter how many points we score. Very disappointing.
