I figured we probably need a thread for Cash's status. We can start it with this riveting "update" from Bill Koch's obervations:

http://cincinnati.com/blogs/uc/2013/01/16/wright-seemed-ok-after-the-game/

Love how Koch documents his minimial efforts:

"Cronin would not permit Wright to talk to the media after the game so there was no way to get his view on what happened or how he felt...."

That was good enough for Bill. Talk to other players about it? Put in a quote from Mick? Talk to assistant coaches? Trainers? Nah.

I wish somehow we could impeach Koch and give his job to bearcat jeff.

Anyway, I digress. The purpose of this thread is for updates on Cash and discussion of injury.

MRI has probably already happened, if not, it will at some point this morning. I am friends with one of the coaches family and they said the trainers were not overly concerned. They said the trainers thought at WORST case damage to the meniscus. Pretty much up in the air imo til they see the results of the MRI.

FWIW Micks brother tweeted last night that word from the bench was that he had a hamstring cramp up by his knee and was being kept out as a precaution. Seeing him on the bench doing nothing but pounding Gatorade makes me hope its more of just a cramp. Before the injury happened Cash signaled to Mick that he needed a breather so heres to hoping it isnt too bad.

Usually trainers can tell when a ligament has been torn or sprained. Obviously they still perform the MRI to confirm everything but a trainer generally knows this when they perform all their manual tests.

I initially thought it was cramps but those usually go away once the muscle loosens up and he seemed to be in pain the entire time going off the court.

I agree, I am just repeating what a coach's wife told me lol

I'm Hoping he just pulled a Paul pierce and made it look way worse than it actually was.
If its miniscus that's surgery required I believe

Maybe a good sign is that it was his right knee. I believe the knee he messed up earlier in his career was the left one.

Some guy on twitter is saying its sprained and that he won't be at full strength for at least 2 weeks to possibly months if it lingers

It's official. Andy Katz is reporting is a "Sprained Knee" and that the injury is "Day to Day"

http://www.hughston.com/hha/a_16_4_1.htm

A sprain is a stretch or tear of a ligament. More serious sprains involve complete tears of one or more of the knee ligaments. A common knee sprain involves the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) (Fig. 1). Changing direction rapidly or stopping abruptly while running can cause the twisting motion that tears the ACL.

If you sprain your knee, you may hear a popping or snapping sound at the time of injury. Afterward, pain seems to come from within the knee, especially with movement. You will not be able to bear weight on that leg, and you can experience swelling and fluid behind the kneecap. You may also hesitate to place weight on the knee because it feels loose or unstable.

Doesn't sound good at all. I would keep him out against Marquette if this is in fact true. I wonder over the course of the past couple years cash favored his right knee due to all the surgeries to the left knee and it finally gave out.

I would rest him for the Marquette and Syracuse games. A sprained knee is no joke. It needs rest. After Syracuse we have 9 days off before Rutgers. See how he feels then...

It's not worth him risking a re-injury or a complete tear just so he can play vs Marquette and/or Syracuse

here is a idea, How about we let the coach and medical staff decide what to do. I'm sure they have a tad more experience and knowledge of the injury than we do.

But BearcatMick is a surgeon according to his profile.Riiiiiiiight. No one in their right mind would ever get put under the knife with that maniac hovering over

I remember when Joey Votto was "day to day"; that phrase could mean anything. Interesting situation with 2 games coming up in the next 5 days, and then the team is off for 9 days until Rutgers on the 30th. I trust the coaching/medical staff to do what is best. There is no question they realize the season depends on him being available for months to come.

This def came at a terrible time with games on Saturday and Monday, not to mention, two really hard games. I think we can win against Marquette without Cash, it will be extremely tough but doable. The Cuse game we don't stand a chance imo, especially without Cash's shooting.

Move JP over and start Sanders or Thomas. If GG starts you simply say play D and don't turn it over.

Totally defer to Mick and the medical staff and like has been mentioned, I'm sure they know if Cash is done, the team's ceiling has lowered dramatically.

If Cash sits, I think we can expect to be pressed / pressured big time (moreso a problem with Marquette b/c of the Cuse zone). I'd put as much handles on the court as we can against Marquette...

Parker
SK
Shaq Thomas
Rubles
Mbodj (wouldn't be upset if it were Jackson)

Against Syracuse, probably going to need the best outside shooting so I might swap out Shaq for Sanders.

Time for players to step up that is for sure! I remember SK saying a few days ago, you don't get recruited in the Big East to be a stiff. Time for some of our guys not to be stiffs lol :D
