I truly don't see how anybody can have a problem with the way Sanders has played this season. He is solid if not spectacular in nearly every area. There was a few game stretch where I thought he should start he was playing so much better than Shaq but not now. Still with him and Shaq at the 3 we are getting good overall production there. Positionally it is our best 1-2.

He's play has been much better, that's why I gave him props. I just don't think he really gives the team the same thing as ST can when he is attacking. I guess I wasn't clear, I'm not a fan of JS starting. He is a nice bench player to come in and hit some 3's. But until ST becomes more consistent, we will see plenty of JS on the floor.

Don't forget Rubles. While his game can be maddening at times, he has come up huge late in the 2nd half of games this year.

I've always kinda like rubles, as long as he is understanding why they are leaving him open at the free throw lane. ;)

I love his rebounding, defense and passion on the floor.

Their stats are practically identical. I like that UC is getting 13 points, 6 rebounds from the three spot. Sanders is a very good three point shooter, and Shaq is good at slashing and drawing fouls. Good combo.

You are simply wrong about Sanders. He is a huge key to this teams success. Without Lawrence, he is playing minutes at the 4 spot. He is shooting 23-52 on three pointers which is 44% and is 7-14 in conference play. He has the highest +/- per 40 minutes on the team. Jermaine Sanders is vital to this teams success, especially without Lawrence.

So I'm wrong in that I'm not a big fan of him? Huh, that's weird that you know that.

I agree that without Lawrence we need sanders on the floor more.

It's just my opinion that if this bearcat team is going to make a run in the tournament, TC and ST are going to have to step up and be on the floor more as they provide matchup issues. I think people are reading way too much into my comment. Especially since I said USF game showed why we need them and where they can really help.

It's no doubt that sanders 3 point shooting is vital unless SK is on fire or one of the freshman get hot. He plays an important role out on the 3 point line against the zone and for kick outs

“This is a game we felt like we should have won. It’s good thing we have another chance to beat them,” said Rudd, who is 22 points away from reaching the 1,000-point mark as a Bull.

Okay Rudd. Can't wait to see you in Cincy son.

Lol. Gotta love the USF confidence. Enjoy the cellar Bulls!!!

I have no problem with Sanders getting a lot of playing time. We need shooters, and he's shooting 44% from behind the arc. He was recruited as a great shooter, and while he's had his fair share of struggles in his first couple years, he seems to be starting to figure his stroke out. Can't argue that.

I'm not a big fan of either GG or Sanders. But in the USF game they both came through pretty good. I'd much rather see TC and ST on the floor more, but they are times where they disappear too...understandable for a freshmen, getting less and less understandable for ST.

So while I would really prefer a lineup with GG and JS playing only spot minutes off the bench, I'm sure glad they were on the floor Saturday. Mick has been pushing most of the right buttons with this squad and it helps for him to have 2 senior leaders like SK and JJ.

I think you're catching flack because these two points summarize your post and that summary suggests that neither Guyn nor Sanders deserve much playing time.

I've been Sanders biggest supporter on this site the past year and here lately I think I've been Guyn's biggest supporter, mostly because he's been bashed so much that I've taken to sticking up for him. Sanders is an all-around good player and deserves every minute he gets right now. He provides much more than the stat sheet shows. I like him coming off the bench because he can come in and provide solid D and some offense and give you as many minutes as you need if Shaq is off his game or just if match-ups dictate it. He needs to take a more active role on offense and be more aggressive to be a scorer. Right now he is mainly just looking to take the open shot from a kick-out. While that works and we need that I think he has more in his arsenal.

Guyn is a great defender and locks down the opposing guards. That doesn't show up on the stat sheet. He definitely needs to be more aggressive on offense. He is strong and athletic and fundamentally sound when shooting (I put it that way because obviously his shots haven't fallen this year). If we saw Shaq and Caupain on the floor for say 32-35 minutes each (as your post suggests) our defense wouldn't be holding teams under 60 points too much. Shaq has improved his D recently so I don't want to sound as if I'm bashing him, but Sanders is better at not losing his man and at being in position to rebound. Guyn is just hands down a better defender. Caupain is a freshman and is still making many freshman mistakes. As competition gets better those mistakes become more glaring and costly. We hang our hat on defense and we win because of it. Guyn is a large part of that. He sets the tone for the game. I like the versatility that Caupain brings off the bench. He is a good weapon in the offense and as Waite pointed out that's nice when you have other back-ups in who might not be strong offensively. Shaq and Sanders are great compliments to each other because they are two completely different players. Mick can use that to his advantage and he has.

So when we were not in a zone D, GG guarded Allen and Heath pretty much. Let's see what they scored 3 points combined! GG also had 3 boards and didn't toss the ball away. Maybe we should just let him get splinters on the bench? I just wish he would penetrate occasionally. I loved that fast break he led last game vs Temple that ended in JJ's dunk. That's situational awareness. He's not as exciting to watch as TC, but he's the guy I would want to control the ball for me. Good game GG!
Go Cats!

When we play UL and UCONN we are going to need GG and KJ defensively. Other than on ball D I would love to have Troy on the floor for everything else but there are some REALLY quick outstanding guards coming up that will test Caupain to the max. We might play zone against UCONN which would help keep Troy on the floor. I don't know if he can guard Smith though.

Anyone else who watched the game think that Chris Perry could become a really good player if he improved his conditioning?

Ummmmm, how did these guys give us a great game for 37 minutes? Louisville up 27-9 at USF. And UL isn't even playing that good, USF looks like a high school team. If not worse. Not much of a confidence booster.

Louisville is the best team in the American. Oh and since Lawrence went out, yes, Cincinnati is slightly overrated at #15.

UC never usually crushes anyone, so I wouldn't use it against UC. Instead, I think it shows just how good U of L can be when they click on all cylinders.

Because UL is a complete team. I think they have a good shot at another final 4 this year. I am extremely worried when we have to play them...twice. They are a terrible match up for us. We'll be lucky to score 50 on em.

Yep. They aren't quite as good defensively as Cincinnati but they are exponentially better offensively. I think UC gets them at home, I think the Yum! next Thursday will be a different story. Could get ugly.

Since then, they have been playing amazing. I think that embarrassing loss woke them up out of their funk.

It has only been 3 games, with two at home. The Houston win was impressive margin of victory but beating SMU by 8 is not exactly amazing, especially at home. Beating UConn by 8 on road impressive, but not a eye opening victory.
