6. Cincinnati: Mick Cronin's Bearcats return the core of the team that went to the second round of the NCAA tournament. Talented big man Yancy Gates is back, so are veteran guards Dion Dixon and Cashmere Wright. Just wish Cronin took the challenge of playing a more challenging nonconference slate.

I tweeted him and asked why he banged on UC and not the other BEast powers. Still waiting on a reply. There are many week schedules because of the strong games in conference.

I think in one of his previous articles he mentioned that teams like Pitt, Nova, and UConn can play a weak non-conference schedule because they are established powers. They have nothing to prove, where a team like UC needs to prove it.

We start the conference schedule with 8 straight games against tournament teams from last year. We'll have plenty of chances to prove ourselves. I'd like a tougher non-conference schedule (I'm sure Mick would as well), but I just don't get the outrage over it.

He is a Xavier nut hugger. Him and CMack are big buddies. Mack made a comment that with X's schedule they wouldn't be 15-0 at the end of non-conf. I felt that was a shot. Maybe not but that's how I took it.

One thing I will say, with 6 newcomers I think UC has a good schedule for bringing the new guys up to speed to D1 basketball. Wish Mbodji was healthy. Gaines had like 4 fouls in the time he played...lol
