Coaching not players. Mick still learning that lesson today. You play your best players. Lance was given keys to team too late
Vaughn tailed off big time playing with Stephenson. They didn't mix well together. I wasn't a big Stephenson fan that year, but talent-wise, compared with a lot of the stiffs that Mick has brought in here, there's no comparison. Stephenson had the goods.
No doubt lance had the skill, would have been a stud had he stayed longer. But it was real interesting to see how vaughn a great four year guy kind of regressed his senior year. I know he had a little more talent, and i agree he did not mesh well with lance games kind of clashed but he went from averaging 17 as a sophomore 15 as a junior down to 11.7 as a senior usually thats the other way around
First Team All Big East as well as a sophomore. That is an accomplishment that no other Cronin recruit accomplished (I believe), including Stephenson.
all he had to do was stand around perimeter and hit open shots all day. Instead lance stood around while Vaughn stayed at PG. Mick tried not to expose lance instead of elevate his draft stock. Lance went from lottery pick to 2nd rd under mick development. Perfect example that you don't let JR/SR start by default that a get you no where. Hold open competition EVERY year at ALL positions, I dont care if you got returning all American. Kids compete at their highest levels when they feel it's a chance for spot if they work hard.No doubt lance had the skill, would have been a stud had he stayed longer. If we were picking a team for one season what combo would you most want to start with.
1) Yancy/cash
2) JJ/SK
3) Troy/Gary

* surprised he had yancy so low. Sk is #1, imo Vaughn will be 2 and cashmere will be 3. #4 will be interesting
Yeah wow. Gates #5 is a joke. No way Cronin's best team exists in the Big East without him. He should probably be #2.
This means Stephenson is top 4? I can't think of anyone else.
SK, Vaughn, Lance and Cash...
