Good article, I'll be happy when the name Huggins stops being mentioned with UC basketball, though. At least Cronin is starting to get some clout.

You can't erase history. Do you want them to stop mentioning Oscar Robertson? Kenyon Martin? All were very important to Cincinnati Basketball. And Huggs was instrumental in Cronin becoming a head coach as well. Probably in order, Hep, Huggs, and Pitino.

That's not my point. Mentioning past players is different than mentioning past coaches. No one hates Justin Jackson because Eric Hicks isn't here. There are people who hate Cronin because Huggins isn't here. My point, though, was more I wish Cincinnati and Cronin would become synonomous with each other and not Cincinnati and Huggins. A headline after our biggest win in a long time has the name of our former coach in it. Huggins name shouldn't be mentioned in an article about current games, much less the headline. It just shows what the national perception is about Cincinnati and Huggins is still there. Don't get me wrong I love what he did here but Cronin will never get out of his shadow with this type of thinking. I'm ready for when we can talk about Cronin's accomplishments without mentioning what Huggins did here. Ed Jucker won two titles here, why was his name not mentioned?

Because that was 50+ years ago. The last real coach here was Huggins. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the fact that many people will always compare Cronin and Huggins, but it doesn't shock me that people do. Nobody's just going to forget that he was here 16 years and won a lot of games.

The more years Cronin is here and the more success he has, the less the comparing will be made. If he can put together a run this year and get to the Final Four, I think all the Huggins talk will be 100% out the window.

I think this is what it will take, too. A final four that is. I am awaiting the day that happens.
