“We don’t have to beg anybody to come to the University of Cincinnati,” Jones said. “The last time I checked, we went to the Orange Bowl and we’ve gone to the Sugar Bowl and our recruiting classes have been (ranked) middle to last in the Big East.”
UC earned those bowl trips under Kelly, who since left for Notre Dame. Jones, hired Dec. 16, said UC recruiters subsequently received warm welcomes in homes both locally and nationally.
“You look at our national reputation now, and we’re very attractive,” Jones said. “We don’t get caught up in who’s recruiting who, or who is a one-star or two-star or three-star player. We’re looking for the best players that fit our system and the best players we can develop.”
