After completing an impressive career at Flint Southwestern, playing in the Saginaw Valley League, arguably the toughest high school league in the state, Dominique Fischer will continue her playing career at Cincinnati State, signing with one of the top JUCO women's basketball teams in the country.
"I've played against some of the best competition in the state and nation in the Valley," Fischer said. "I just want to work hard, get better and help Cincinnati State win a national title."
Fischer, a point guard, capped a standout career at Southwestern by leading the team in scoring as a senior at just over 18 points per game. She was the third leading scorer in the Flint area. She also led the team in assists.
She also had interest from Adrian College, Siena, St. Clair Community College and Illinois State before deciding on Cincinnati State, where she hopes to compete right away for a spot in the rotation.
"I think if I put the work in over the summer, I should be able to contribute right away," Fischer said.
While the opportunity to compete for playing time was a draw, so was the environment.
"The team is really successful and I just really like the city and the atmosphere," she said.
Fischer hopes to continue playing at a high level after two years at Cincinnati State.
"If I play hard and get better, it should prepare me to go on and play at the Division I or Division II level," she said.
