Cincinnati/Xavier Press Conference Tonight

A lot of it is psychology. It's one team playing with some added pressure of losing to a inferior opponent vs a team that has nothing to lose and plays loosey goosey.

If you watch MLB in September you'll see plenty of occasions a team in the pennant race loses to a team at the bottom of the standings by record. One team playing with loads of pressure where mistakes are magnified and the other team is playing with nothing to lose.

An interesting question I ask myself is what would the Xavier program have looked like now and over the last couple decades if they never would have had UC on their schedule?

How would UC fair without X on their schedule?
Really don't think that over the last 10 years we would be considered the better team and x the inferior team. Otherwise your theory sounds good. Hopefully that trend is about to be reversed.

I was generalizing. Certainly there were years like 2007 when UC was the inferior team, even the 1997 X team could be better heading into the matchup. Obviously the two times UC was ranked #1 before the game provided a big opportunity for X.

Not sure if this is new but just saw it...

The annual Crosstown Shootout between Cincinnati and Xavier will be 2/18/15 at Fifth Third Arena, per Musketeers' SID Tom Eiser.

I'm not sure if an official date had been announced, but I knew it'd be in February during ESPN's Rivalry Week.
