I hope we will play faster but I'm not counting on it. We've kind of heard that for the last couple years.

Ive heard this for years...

I have also said for years that this team would be alot better if they played at a near collision course tempo. Let the athletes get out and run.

The only way we play faster is if we can score around the rim. History is not in our favor but hopefully its different this year.

You need the athletes to play uptempo and you have to put the ball in the hoop. Hard to press off our missed shots. Hopefully as Micks recruits get better that will improve allowing us to be a team with lots of style options.

I know this is off topic but does anyone know how much tickets are for the pre season games I can't find it on go bearcats it only has regular season? Thanks

Another year, another article about UC being a fast tempo team. I'll believe it when I see it.

They still made a lot of shots over the past few years and they weren't pressing off of those.

Define lots of shots. Their shooting percentage as a team was terribly low. What they did well was play great half court defense and crash the boards for second chance points. Have no idea what team you were watching. you can't fit round objects in square holes. You play to the strengths of yor players. hopefully this new group can play uptempo. Personnaly I don't care as long as they win.

Really good article but the part at the end with the 10 or 11 guys playing has got me thinking who is not going to be playing and we have 14 players on the team so I'm guessing

Strickland- not eligible
The walk on
Davis- not talked about in article
Johnson-least talked about freshman

I would say he means that 10-11 guys will see significant minutes in each game...but I don't think he is saying it's always going to be the same guys.

I can see a steady 8-9 man rotation with 2-3 spots being determined by things like attitude, effort, matchups, who's practicing well, etc.

Based on their average ppg and ft's made, they made roughly 25-35 shots per game. So assumingly they had 25-35 chances to press, and that isn't enough for you? On average, how many of those shots did they implement their press after? Roughly zero. So how many do they need to make before the statement "you have to make shots to press" rightfully dies?

You certainly aren't really going to continue to make this argument are you? You play to your strengths.not what yor fan base thinks you should do. Mick has stated many times he wants to play uptempo but the players and the skill level were not there. Hopefuly this season he has the bodies. I would hope he knows his personell a tad better than you. In you expert opinion if Mick would have pressed after each of those made baskets we would of had a better season. LMAO!!!!

You are making up an argument. Not sure what you are currently on but I would recommend quitting it as soon as possible. Not only that your writing is barely legible. By the way, you can fit round objects in square holes, as long as the round object is smaller than the square. I think you mixed up your idioms. Lay off the cough medicine.

I couldn't care less what the fan base thinks. In fact I've never been a big fan of pressing. I've been a big fan of playing uptempo and I have a number of reasons for that, but pressing isn't one and the same as playing up tempo..

First, Mick has said each and every year that he was going to press and play uptempo. Not me, Mick. Who wants to bet that at the end of the season we'll be saying that this team wasn't equipped to press?

Second, regardless as to whether I think they had the bodies or not, the argument that you have to make shots to press is a lame one. Every team makes shots and makes FT's. That gives you an opportunity to press if you really want to. Now if you don't think the team is equipped to press then fine, don't do it, but that is a whole separate argument from not pressing because you didn't make shots. YOU said "you have to put the ball in the hoop" to press - I just showed how this argument is stupid. They put the ball in the hoop plenty of times to press if that is what Mick really wants to do.

As sure as the sun setting in the west, you can bet your bottom dollar that when Conference play begins the games will be played in the 50's and 60's with defenses ruling the day.

This team will be a lot like the 2010-11 Bearcats. That team received significant contributions off the bench from Larry Davis, Sean Kilpatrick, Darnell Wilks, Justin Jackson and got decent minutes from Biggie McClain. That is a legitimate 9-10 deep team.

Looking back, that was probably Mick's best team. No coincidence, they also pressed the most. They had a bad match up with UConn (losing twice in the final few weeks), I think if they were in any other bracket they could have made the Elite 8/Final 4. Let's hope this team can be nearly as good (personally I see a fringe bubble team on the 8/9/10 line)...

If my writting offends you please feel free to edit them. You apparently have a lot more expertise in that area then you do in basketball. As for the cough medicine that is funny. I don't use drugs of any kind.

I myself enjoy uptempo but I enjoy winning more. Mick has tailored his style to his players strenghts. I'm sure he would like to play quicker but when your playing in BE and your generally out manned you have to play the style that gives you the best chance to win. Sometimes coaches have to alter there approach to get the best results. Again Mick would love to play uptempo he just hasn't had the players.Something he learns as the season unfolds. Hopefully this year he can begin to make that happen. If he can't I won't consider it a failure if he changes his approach to fit his team and makes the Dance. As for you ascertation that you can press without making shots that is wrong. Mick himself has said that on multiple occasions and and many other D1 coaches understand this as well. Again there shooting percentage was terrible. They were much better playing a crash the boards, tough half court defense then trying to play a style that was not suited to their personell.I guess we can agree to disagree.

I'm all for Mick playing to his strengths. It has been Mick that has said each and every year that they are going to play uptempo, not me. You point to the lack of personnel for it, then why does he state this every year? Does he not have a grasp on his personnel? Again, Mick says they'll play up tempo this year, I won't hold my breadth. I'm sure come end of the year you'll be saying they didn't have the personnel for it.

And I never ascertained that you can press without making shots. In fact I said the opposite, so it appears reading comprehension is an issue too. I pointed out that they made a lot of shots last year and didn't choose to press. If that is the reason for not pressing then it's bogus. I'll try to make this clear to you, I'm not saying they had the personnel for it, but it definitely wasn't because they didn't make shots. They made plenty of enough shots to press if they really wanted to. Get it yet?

I'll send them to you for approval.

Implying they could press just because they made SOME shots in a game is really stretching to make a point. Pressing requires more then made shots. To be able to have the desired impact it is very helpful to make some shots. This allows you to set up Press.Especially if your going to use it to speed up the play of the other team and force turnovers. It is effected by foul trouble, health and depth of personell and how effective it would be against the competition. As I pointed out it may have been Micks intent to play uptempo and press but after getting into the seson and evaluating many factors including his teams inability to make shots, he decided it wasn't in his teams best interest. Do you get it???? This is my last post on subject. Enjoyed the banter. When I need a spell checker I'll let you know.

Sounds like we are both fans that enjoy uptempo high pressure defensive basketball. Lets hope we get the style we want with a bunch of wins to go with it. I also think it will help recruitng as many of todays players would rather play that style. It translates to the next level. Hopefully Micks reputation is growing and his ability to recruit this style of athelte will make all that possible.
