P U

Is this a joke? He was clearly our most efficient player last year, a solid rebounder and a decent defender. Definitely not a star, but it would have been nice if we had him for 2 years.

There is a reason Mick did not fight for his 5th or 6th year of eligibility.

Role player at best compared to all that hype he had coming in

Mike had a child and needed to make money. Mick wasn't going to force Mike into something that wasn't best for him, nor could he even if he wanted to.

Again, he was our most efficient offensive player. For you to say P U shows you really have no idea what you are talking about.

Mike Williams lacked proper development. It's one thing to practice, it's another to play real games (as we see from Deveroes).

Please explain to me your defintion of "efficient". You use it in all your agruments.

Gates is more efficient you say... at what?
Mike Williams was most efficient on offense... how?

So for being a McDonalds All American and not developing as should, you are right i'll change my statement. Mick should get the P U!

You are guilty of helping my argument. This case too is adjourned!

Its embarrasing (for you) that I have to explain what efficiency means when it comes to basketball. When speaking of a team, the goal on offense is to score as many points per possession as possible and allow as few points per possesion as possible. Some teams score a lot of points, but they aren't efficient because it takes them a lot of possessions to do so. Other teams don't allow many points, but it isn't impressive because they just slow the pace of the game.

When it comes to individual players, you want players that help maximize that efficiency by shooting at a high percentage, extending possessions by getting offensive rebounds and not wasting possessions by turning it over. Yancy is shooting at a higher percentage this year, making him much more efficient. To make it easy for you, Ken Pomeroy has an O-Rating for every player. Yancy is the second most efficient on our team this year behind Bishop (who plays a smaller role on offense).

Last year our most efficient player was Mike Williams because of his nice mid range jumper and ability to shoot free throws when he got to the line. He scored 1.35 points per shot last year. Our next closest was 1.22 from Vaughn.

Let me make this easy on you. Yancy doesnt get the ball much anymore to turn it over. Hes either on the bench or does not demand touches and our guards end up chucking 3's. The man is 6'9, 260 you are damn right he better get some boards! He is soooo efficient that hes averaging 24 min a game. A minute more than last year.

Keep that kinda efficiency up and we'll be in the NCAA in about 25 years! Yay

Once Mikes 8 footer was taken away by taller defenders he had little game on offense.

Did you know that it is possible to measure turnover percentage? Did you know that Yancy's is very low.

You continue to not make any sense. Its really embarrassing for you. You don't even know what efficient means.

Do not fear everyone!

According to the definition of efficiency by "Guilty". I have changed your name for you. We shall reach the NCAA Tourny in about 2035!

Hopefully Ralphy is still around! :D:D (you can all dish em, time to take em)

As I have previously stated, I find it embarrassing as a UC alumni and fan that this kind of disrespect is directed towards other UC fans. It should not be that difficult to create a post without saying "you" or "your". But on a side note, Gates' turnover pecentage has increased since last year. I have expected much more out of Yancy than he has given the last 3-4 months since Maui.

Hmm I'll be. Must have been a new line drawn on the court. I thought there was only the free throw stripe, 2's and the 3 line.

Where are the 1.35 pointers and 1.22 pointers on the court?:D

So everyone knows as well.

John Walls O-Rating puts him 6th on the team. He must not be very efficient:D

It seems that there has been a recent surge of stats that seem to me to be over analyzing the game. IMO you can tell how good a player is by watching the game, and for some people, stats have over taken the good old eye test. I'm not talking points per game and rebounds per game kinda stats, I'm talking the efficiency stats and stats similar to that. People seem to be looking way too into things like that, stats are good and everything, but they don't tell the whole story.

Intelligent programs (or organizations on the pro level) use advanced stats to their advantage.

Whats funny is that stats like points per game and rebounds per game are worthless compared to stats like shooting percentage or effective field goal percentage, offensive and defensive rebounding percentage and other stats of the like. But those are the stats that are acceptable to you.

As an example: In the Villanova game, we got 31 rebounds as a team while they got 28. Seems pretty even. But we missed 40 shots and got 14 offensive rebounds, meaning Villanova only got 65% of the rebounds on the defensive glass, whereas UC got 74% of their defensive rebounds. We were clearly superior on the glass, but because we missed so many shots (and it is easier to get a defensive rebound) the numbers actually look pretty even. Advanced stats help give a much clearer and accurate picture than than the basic stats you used.

Here is a good article on quality shots. The best teams excel at being efficient, plain and simple.

I agree and probably 50percent of the posts are not provided by intelligent organizations!
