Alright, I'll quit being negative about this article...

Can't wait till they get on the floor and we can see instead of speculate.

Easy big fella.

You'll make one begin to think you are actually rooting for that other team across town, or maybe the team further down I-75, instead of the team located in Clifton.

I kid...:D

I'm not going to call it whining... But I have NEVER seen a coach publicly make more excuses than Mick Cronin.

Bingo! I really think that fans understand what Cronin was walking into and how hard it would be to rebuild the program. I think fans are upset at how Cronin has gone about doing so. It seems as if he always has that one excuse he can fall back on, and he doesn't hesitate to use it.

IMO, most coaches would go the other route, saying I'm not going to make excuses, or I don't care what happened in the past I'm looking at the future..those type of things. If Mick didn't try to use those excuses every chance he got, but rather tried to take a positive approach to the whole situation instead of a negative one, fans would react differently.

Also, I don't want to get into his coaching too much, but at times it feels like he is trying to do too much coaching if that makes sense. Seems to me like he doesn't go with the flow at all, or watch his players on the court. After a game he might make an excuse for why he did something, called a certain play pulled a player, which can actually make sense, but he doesn't look to see if what he did actually worked. Sometimes things that seem to make sense don't actually work, but he doesn't change his mind or make adjustments to his game plan .

The thing I love about Mick Cronin is that he won't ******** you. He says exactly what he feels. Whether it is whining or not he doesn't give you any coach speak. When your not winning it isn't always what you want to hear.

You like that he throws players under the bus, and rarely admits that what he called may have been the wrong decision? That it's always someone else's fault? How many top level coaches throw their players under the bus? I don't want to bash Cronin too much, because I think for the most part he has done a decent job, and I think there is too much bashing, but he seriously should have had a different attitude about it all. Again, how many top level coaches would react similarly to Cronin if in his situation?

Honestly, and this goes for my post above too, the way he tries to defend himself all the time, and remind people all the time what the program was like, it sounds like someone who is scarred of being fired and or ridiculed.

There has NEVER been a case like the one Mick stepped into in the recent history of college basketball. The closest thing is what Crean stepped into and he came AFTER Mick.

Oh I dunno coming back from the death penalty (Tulane) and coming back from major infractions where you can't play an OOC schedule and a player to player shooting (Baylor) strike me as worse. Frankly Scott Drew should be Mick's road map. Baylor has it going on and it took Drew 6 years to do it.

First of all, Baylor had players. Tulane plays in a ****** conference and still blows. It's a lot easier to come back in a ****** conference as opposed to getting the crap beat out of you in the Big East. Not being able to play an OOC schedule does not equal having to literally field a team in 6 months. Scott Drew had to deal with stuff but it was different. He never had to recruit an entire team in 6 months. And if you want to compare the two, Mick has been here 4 years. Give him two more and he will have it going on as well. Especially with the quality of recruit that Mick is bring in right now in the 2011 class.

Gentlemen we have a very important visit this weekend. Can we please keep the negative rhetoric down?

I have to agree a little with everyone, The only thing i can shed light on is Cronin really has done a very good job bringing this program back to being respectable. People say that he is not that good of a recruiter and that is completely false. Remember that he came from murray state and was not the most proven coach in the world. For him to get the players that he is getting and he has got just shows how extremely hard he recruits. Think to your self what he had to of told his 1st, 2nd and third year recruits. He was not at a very highly respected school and yes they almost beat UNC but that is the only real notch he had on his belt. How was or is he suppose to recruit with the Hall of fame coaches when the only thing he can tell his recruits is he helped land some talented players. How is Cronin going to go up against Huggs or Pitino. He cant!!! I think he has done a remarkable job recruiting. As for coaching he is still young and only has a limited amount of Head coaching experience before he became the head coach at UC. This guy will do fine this year make it to the dance and( going out on a limb here) Will be the big east coach of the year, when they are in the top 5 of the BEAST and make it to the tournament!!! Laugh all you want but I think he has a very very successful year!!! He has improved every single year we can all agree on that so if we improve from last year we definately will be in the tournament!!!

I've made no secret I think this team is going to surprise people and be better than most believe. Fact is he has beaten Huggins, Pitino, and Calhoun, along with others with lesser talent. He doesn't have the luxury of recruiting in a basketball rich talent pool like New York, Memphis, or Chicago, where a lower prestige school can still land some of the abundant talent that wants to stay close to home. He is surrounded by Louisville, Kentucky, Ohio State, Pitt, and West Virginia regionally. He recruits in a league full of Hall of Fame coaches. Add to that the fact that he is trying to rebuild a program that was brought to it's knees under strict orders to do things right. The guy has done a very good job and things are starting to get that special feeling as if the pieces are really coming together. I'm very excited about what I'm seeing from recruits to coaching changes. This program is on the cusp of returning to prominence.

My biggest gripe in this fight is what do people expect Mick to say after these losses? Yeah there are times that hearing it gets old, but as long as you shove a mic in a guys face after losses, you're going to hear excuses. He's trying to be as positive as he can and keep fans around. You can't come out and say we don't have the talent you fans are used to so come back in a few years when we do. The fact of the matter is we are still in a rebuilding stage, like it or not. The leader of our team last year was a player that came in under Cronin's first year and was a player no one else wanted. I don't mean that as disrespect to Vaughn, because he did a lot for us, but Vaughn was never going to take us to the promised land. Vaughn had alot of flaws to his game and his game clashed with the style this team needed to run to be successful. The problem is he was still our best chance to win most nights so Mick had to play him. Lance was a good get, but he obviously had his flaws too, especially as a freshman. Last year was tough, but it was last year. Lets look at this year and give Mick the benefit of the doubt. He has a team that should play well together and was all recruited to play athletic and uptempo basketball. I think we will finally get some answers as to how good of a coach Mick is this year. Yeah, the talent level is not the best of the Big East, but teamwork and smart basketball can make up for alot. If this team stays healthy and Mick can get them to the tournament then we should all be able to agree that Mick has done a good job rebuilding. The 2011 class is already shaping up nicely and getting back to the tourney will finally make Cincinnati a desirable destination again. Then we'll really see Mick's recruiting ability pay off.

He has laid a new foundation, restored an image and made the team competitive. For all the criticism he deserves our respect and support for that.

i'm late to the discussion but what image are you talking about? the image of the pre-huggs uc that was insignificant in the grand scheme of the college basketball world?

My faith is shaken but hopefully things fall into place this year and we can start seeing his vision come to pass.

Don't be foolish... and don't accept a compromise in integrity as a program for wins... you CAN win and run a first class program... we ALL know that was not the case at times during our former coaches tenure... though we all certainly appreciate what he did to return the school to former basketball glory.

Bishop was kicked off the team---I think I recall him being removed b4.

Yet he is brought back when uc loses lance.

I think he chose program wins over integrity on that one.

Rashads problems have been attitude issues not legel issues. I could be wrong (doubtful) but when was rashad seriously disciplined before the end of last year?

Good post, need to shorten that bad boy up though ha

not trying to start an argument (i'm a little too new around here for that) I never said bishop got into prior trouble--I thought I recalled something happening--and so do you obviously.

again, where is the line? does Integrity remains intact as long as unsavory actions are kept within the closed doors of practice? does the lack of "seriously" disciplining mean mick is running a tight ship?

The image is most certainly better and I tip my hat to coach, however I think if huggins were still around, a lot of the indiscretions of the players on the team would get a harder look.

rashad had some issues behind the scenes after his sophomore year
