Does anyone know for sure if Ellis will get the redshirt for this season, I would love for him to only be a freshman, but the ncaa looks into these type of deals and i don't think the fight against xavier helps him out since he threw a couple of punches and was suspended.

He has been officially redshirted due to medical reasons. He wsa injured before X game.

This is a great break for us. He is getting huge. Has a great frame.

There is nothing official with his redshirt. Medical redshirts are not determined until after the final game of the season is played. We probably won't know for sure until some time in April. Based on the situation, I think the staff is pretty confident that he will be granted the medical redshirt.

That was the vibe i was getting, what was his injury anyways? anything that we should be worried about?

Because he has not been officially granted the medical waiver to be redshirted he was eligible to play in the games if an emergency situation came about. Obviously that did not happen and Mick fully expects him to receive the medical redshirt.

You have to appear in less than 30% of your teams games and suffer a season ending injury that prevents you from participating. After playing in, I believe 2 games, he never dressed again the rest of the season. Good chance he'll get it.

I believe it is actually is 20% or 2 games, whichever is higher. Anyway you slice it, he should be good.

"A special case involves the eligibility of a player who loses the majority of a season to injury. Popularly known as a medical redshirt, a hardship waiver may be granted an athlete who appears in fewer than 30% of his or her team's competitions (with none coming after the midway point of the season), then suffers a season-ending injury. A player who is granted such a waiver is treated for the purposes of his or her eligibility as though he or she had not competed in that season."

I thought Shaq was allowed to practice with the team after first semester! Is he still not cleared by the NCAA?

Shaq wasn't eligible until the second quarter which is why Cronin chose to redshirt him rather than have him try to come in mid-season and mess up the flow of the team and use up a year of eligibility for half a season.

My question was, why wasn't Shaq traveling with team when he is eligible to practice?

Not sure about rules on that, possible redshirted players aren't allowed to travel, but my guess is the cost issue. No need to spend the money and keep a player out of class (after all they are there for their education...yeah a little sarcasm) when they won't be playing.
