Embry-Riddle (Exhibition)

Clark and Evans are fine. These exhibition games are useless for them.

I agree they really don't have anyone to impress in these games. They are probably the 2 guys on the team that Cronin will not have to worry about using the bench to "motivate" them. They always are doing the right things on the court on both sides of the ball.

I just wish they smelled blood in the water like Washington and Cumberland do sometimes. Jarron could have easily dropped 40 on that team. He even gave up two fast break freebies that he passed away. I can't say there is anyone else who can drop 40...not Evans or Clark. You can drop 20 by being efficient with the shots you get...to get 30 or 40 you have to be aggressive and be able to create shots for yourself.

If someone told Evans that he had to score 40 yesterday, he could've. We have a little bit before the true tests start. These guys are more than ready. I have zero doubt about that.

I agree with you they are ready. I would probably disagree with you that Evans can just go get points when he wants to (with efficiency). Cumberland is not limited to getting points off assists, fast breaks, put backs, or making 3's. He can go get them for himself and he can get them at a high rate of efficiency. Evans, as of right now, does not have that "go get them for myself" points. He needs other players to help him get the points (which is not a bad thing by any means). Jarron probably created at least half of his own points yesterday.

I love Evans and Clark. They are unselfish players who can play extremely well on both sides. I hope they never leave. They still might even be our 2 most valuable players. I just wish they had a killer instinct in them for their own benefit. Two of the most likable players in UC history. I want great things to happen for them.

Evans could've scored 40 on Embry-Riddle, if that was the goal. Nothing can convince me otherwise lol.

I'm glad we didn't see killer instinct from veterans in exhibition play. The last thing we need is someone getting hurt. There is just nothing to prove for those guys yet.

Evans is as competitive a player as we have ever had imo. That was one of the first things I ever noticed about him. If he makes a mistake, watch him for the next few possessions. He is going to die trying to make up for it.

Clark is who he is. Old Reliable will be there when we need him. Washington is a perfect compliment.

I don't want to confuse aggressive scorer with killer instinct. There are lots of other ways Evans and Clark show their competitiveness.

I am glad you clarified this. As I have mentioned I think Gary and Jacob are the two most reliable and perhaps most valuable on our team. I am not expecting them or asking them to go out and score 40 points. I am not equating aggressive offensive play with competitiveness either. They are the two most well rounded players when considering both sides of the court.

That does not mean I think either of them can create points when they want to like Washington and Cumberland. I also do not think scoring is the only way to judge a BB player. However, many fans have been asking to see a little more aggression from them...precisely because they are so good. Cronin is no different. I just have not seen it so far...and I don't think risking injury is the reason we haven't seen it so far this year.

Hey, if we have other players who can be aggressive, I am happy. Clark and Evans taking a back seat is not optimal IMO. They are both so efficient that I think they should look for more opportunities. I don't want them to play outside their ability...just look for more opportunity and try to create more and be more aggressive.

Maybe that will happen when we get into the meat of the schedule...but I am not counting on it as of right now.

Interesting that Moore was the first sub in the game within the first minute or so. With Williams being more high profile and assuming more talented...that seems like a significant development. Obviously it was due to a lapse in defense from Cumberland...but it's good to see Cronin has a good amount of confidence in Moore.

Have any of Cronin's teams had a killer instinct?

Depends what you mean by that. I mean, it takes some serious killer instinct to shut down teams on defense. To play that end of the floor and take pride in it. That takes a certain type of team who takes pride in making the easiest shots in basketball now the hardest (Around the rim shots). They don't teach basketball players in todays age to be like that.

Moore is going to be a good player for UC.

He plays his ass off. He made some freshman mistakes, but he will be a good player for us.

Seriously, this group of Freshman are so good. I have high hopes for all 4 of them and all of them are completely different types of players that fill different needs.

Diarra is a stretch big who can score
Nsesome is a rebounding and defense beast
Williams is an all around scorer, defender and can get in the lane
Moore is a 3 and D player with a near perfect looking shot.

Risking injury isn't the reason? Then what is the reason? Evans led the team in scoring last year as a SO...don't forget that. And now I'm to believe he's having trouble against Embry-Riddle and a FR kid at Bellarmine who was playing in the GCL last year? Bc he's not aggressive enough? C'mon.

This is a MASSIVE overreaction to exhibition games imo. Once we settle in, we'll actually have a real rotation. It won't just be mass subs in and out all game long.

I'm glad these guys are here when we have a good veteran group. Should minimize the chances of a down season down the road.

UC is not the only team that plays tough defense, the team across town does, Michigan state does etc...

I am referring to how many times has UC gone up 15-20 points in the 2nd half to let the lead get down to a single possession in the past 11 years? Compare that to how many times have they buried a quality opponent by 30+? The gold suit WVU game? UC seems to step off the gas and get complacent with big leads in the second half and this has been a trend. How many times have you heard, "so and so needs to be mentally tougher and they are too nice, best person off the court."

Xavier is good at defense??????

I didn't say he was having trouble scoring against Embry. I was implying that he maybe didn't want to as much as other players. Come on man.

I am not saying exhibition is what is going to happen in big games...just that I would have liked to see Clark and Evans being more aggressive. Stop over playing my comments please.

When the season starts I will be happy to eat crow but I have seen the nature of our players before and Clark and Evans are not the most aggressive. Why is that such a big deal?
