Can't imagine the administration would ever allow it, unfortunately. They want Ohio recruits to forget we exist.

It's a good strategy. They essentially don't want competition for fans. In OSU's mind they want everyone in the state of Ohio to root for both Ohio State and their team of choice. They will not voluntarily schedule Dayton, Xavier and Cincinnati if they can avoid it.

I'll never respect them. The one time they agree to play us, they're #1 in the country and we have one scholarship player. Connor Barwin was guarding freakin' Greg Oden in that game. We should've turned them down.

Ohio State basketball fans are the most fraudulent group of people in the world (besides liberals). You never hear OSU fans talk about basketball unless they're good. In recent years with Matta struggling through health issues and his teams not performing I almost forgot they even had a program. Not a single one of the obnoxious OSU fans I know has said a peep about basketball in the last 4 years. When they were good though everyone was a HUGE fan and ran their mouths nonstop.

OSU basketball fans are a myth, like the lochness monster or bigfoot.

Me personally.

I'm not asking for us to try and fill our schedule with nothing but power 5 games. But I do wish UC's athletic department would "game" the RPI better.

I hate bringing up Xavier but they are absolutely genius at "gaming" the system. And they were also in a bad spot this year in terms of having a late big time game fall through. They were supposed to host Wisconsin for the Gavitt games and the powers that be decided Xavier would not be part of the gavitt games.
So they Added a exempt game with UNI then a home and home with Utah and Colorado.

The never ever expected Baylor to be this good. They planned on playing big name schools (Baylor, Colorado and Utah) who were all on down years after all losing key players. Then they added teams like South Dakota State, Lehigh, Buffalo, UNI and others that are some of the best buy games you can have.

Now Kenpom has their SOS ranked at #32.. compared to our #183

Thats gaming the system. Thats playing teams who were all top 150 or better and the better teams you played were around 40-50 and they lucked out with Baylor.

They put together that schedule in a methodical mathematical way that games the RPI. We improved on gaming the RPI our selves. But Xavier plays in the big East, they game the RPI when they don't have to. We absolutely have to.

That said, it all goes to attendance to. Everyone hates on me when I complained about attendance. Xavier schedules a high dollar buy game like Buffalo and Lehigh and they sell out. If we scheduled those same teams, we'd probably get 6-7k and thus our AD cant trust that they will make back the money they dish out for these buy games. Im not assuming im right, just calling what I see and what i think is the problem

We need to run our entire program better and this isn't on Mick at all. I drive all over the city and see Xavier signs every where advertising their next game or season tickets. I rarely see UC. We need basketball to be a focus for the university, from advertising to schedulding to facilities. The fans will come when they see the program is being taken seriosly

End rant

Gotta love out-of-place political references. Christ.

I agree with essentially everything you've said, but in terms of attendance I tend to think it's a little simpler.

Win consistently, stay ranked, have some post season success and the fans will come.

I think we're at the beginning of what will be a sustained run of success. Couple that with an updated arena and I think attendance will improve dramatically - even against the Texas Southerns of the world.

Go Cats!

I agree with you about gaming the RPI. We don't need home and homes with local teams. We have to be strategic in scheduling teams we can beat who have bigger names or have higher expected RPI.

That's the sweet spot...but that's probably the goal of a lot of teams so we have to be proactive and aggressive here.

Still... winning with the schedule we have or a slightly better one...will be the main driver of fans. If fans aren't excited (not in top 25 for example)...not many will show up for a game against Colorado either.

Keep in mind, Mick constantly turns down home-and-homes with Dayton. He only wants to play them at home. So it's not like they're not getting any options here, at least I don't think.

I've said before, I like the tough teams we schedule, but I would like to see less 200+ RPI teams. After the Brown and Albany games, an ideal schedule would have some tough games (RPI 1-75), then sprinkle in a few 75-150 RPI games. It's hard to predict where teams will be in a specific season, so that makes it tough. Not blaming anyone specific, but that would be an ideal schedule to me. Cut down on the absolute garbage, if possible.

So your ideal schedule wouldn't have a single team over 150 rpi, dude you're mental.

No it's not really. We are an on the same level to OSU in basketball historically...not a mid major. A home and home with them makes sense. It does not make sense for BGSU or Miami to get a home and home with us.
I meant in Fball. I would play a home and home with any good team and a 2 for 1 with many others.

Dayton is an exception. You have to be smart. They sell out every game. Just like UK and NC etc know to be be selective.

I never thought it from that perspective. I thought they pretty much were afraid to lose or get upset in football. I still hate them.

I hope to see Our bench get a ton of minutes in this game. I would like to see Brooks get more minutes than Moore. It would be great to see Cumberland build off of his last game.

Like many I hope the bench can get some minutes but to me the most important things is offensively we continue to recognize what is a good shot and what is a bad shot. A key for me every game is how many shots we pass up early in the shot clock only to be forced into a desperation 3 as the clock winds down. When we eliminate those shots we can be much more efficient offensively. I see glimpse of improvement with Gary being more aggressive offensively but we still need others to follow suit. There is a fine line between making the extra pass or taking a shot. We have multiple scoring options on this team, blending them together is a key to our season. It's looking better but it still has a ways to go.

Developing the bench is important as well. If our starters are playing well they should see plenty of action.
