Fifth Third Arena Renovation

I heard from the ticket office they are leaning towards NKU. I really hope it's not the case.

why is that? its only few minute drive from clifton. i just think playing at cintas is a bad idea and from the sounds of it those are our only 2 options. the rumor is the cyclones wont even be playing at us bank next year cause of reservations. i always thought maybe the garden could work but they are about to blow it up. parking is not the best but the atmosphere there would be great and i just cant imagine playing at cintas it would be horrible.

i just feel like perception wise it would look horrible to play at cintas even with the circumstances. well see how it goes but i think nku would sell more tickets for uc games then people realize. better arenas mean more ticket sales its that simple. im sure they can put something together for the students to make sure they get good amount at games. make no mistake about it nku is 1000 times nicer to watch a game at then fifth third and i just have this vision that we will have that place rockin and might even bring in some new fans.

really the only downfall is traffic and fact its in ky so maybe not as many fans (tho i think cause the new experience people will go even some who dont normally). Its a shame the gardens couldnt stay open for one more year as old as that place is would worked perfect for one year and would of honestly been pretty cool. im a little surprised uc has not made a decision on it yet tbh for season ticket holders. never know tho maybe uc can talk the gardens into waiting until march 2017 to demolish it. they did say mid 2017 i always thought the gardens was an intriguing option

Because a half full arena took an hour and a half to empty the garage. Because I sat a half hour with my car engine off sitting on a parking garage ramp while traffic emptied one car at a time onto the one road out of there waiting for left turn arrows a mile up the road and 1000 cars deep. Because I have to go to bed at 800 at night and staying up till midnight to watch a 700 basketball game vs. South Utah state is a little ridiculous. Time is money and I don't make money sitting in a parking lot because they can't control traffic out of that arena. Last night's game had 10,500, I stayed till after the Alma mater, walked to my garage, got out in traffic, waited in traffic lights and was on the highway within 15 minutes, half of that being he walk to the car. You can't expect people to wait in traffic an hour and a half after a game. Our fans won't go to games for an insane lost of reasons, you think they'll come down to many games when the traffic is an absolute nightmare?

This sounds crazy, but how bad of shape is Armory in? I wonder if they could clean it up for just one season there. I can't imagine rollaway bleachers would be that difficult to come by.

Other than a working scoreboard and a few places to get food/beer, isn't that really all you need? Maybe I'm naive.

I think there was some thought that they may be able to play the women's volleyball and women's basketball there but it's too much of a dump. I think the women's programs may end up at one of the Catholic women's high schools around town.

Pretty cool idea but I was down there recently it is very run down

no i didnt realize the traffic situation was that bad

So i read this morning that the UC foundation president stepped down. Its the non profit that raises all the money for projects like Fifth third arena renovations and other stuff like the carl linder college of business building they are raising money for.

It just got me thinking hopefully this is not a sign that things are not going so well and just got me thinking has there been any update of the renovation of fifth third arena and is it still officially a go to start after this year?

We havent heard anything about where we will play and really havent heard anything at all. I just have this weird feeling we will hear they are pushing it back another year hopefully my worries are nothing but worries.

My main point is im wondering if you guys have heard anything?

So it looks like we will be playing our home games at NKU's BB&T arena next year. The obvious downfalls are that it is out of state, it is significantly smaller than 5/3, and further for students to make the trip. Does anyone have any insight or predictions on whether or not we will use our floor and whether or not we will see a significant decrease in attendance?

I'd imagine there will be a shuttle for students. That should help some.

can't believe it

If this is true, count me out. I feel strongly that next years team will be very good, but if they take it across the river--count me out. Already traveling 90 miles from the north. Take it over to NKU I have to question--stunning!

I totally understand where you're coming from, but in all honesty you would be adding about 10 minutes MAX to your drive. Now I can't put myself in your shoes because I live in Newport, but I know the extra few miles wouldn't keep me from attending. We are going to have a great team next year that deserves our support regardless of the location.

I just checked Google Maps. BB&T Arena is literally 5 miles away from 5/3 Arena.

Have you been there though? Its like 5 minutes from downtown and every single seat in the house is great.

Its a modern arena with plenty of parking. I was just there for an event with my daughter. We sat in the upper deck and wow, the view was probably as good as the upper seats in the lower level of fifth third. modern Concessions and all that. The only downside is probably traffic.

I'd rather not go to US bank

I'm good either way. Next year's team should be great.

I'd probably prefer US Bank for proximity to the Banks & parking, but I'm good either way.

This thread seems apt. I'm buying tickets to a game, how far back to the upper chairbacks go? Row 15 is the last with chairbacks right?

Come on man. If you're already traveling 90 what's another 5-10?? If this team is going to be as good as we think 5-10 miles is nothing.

It would add an extra 20ish minutes to my drive, during rush hour. The road NKU is on is terrible during that time. I don't go to a lot of game anyways, but playing at NKU would take going to games out of my consideration.

Saying all of that, it sounds like they are getting a good deal. They should definitely do it. Maybe the new temporary location, will bring in some new fans. The arena looks great.

I think historically the majority of UC fans are from the west side of the city, so I think that is where your complaints are coming from. They are valid. It's not simply an extra 5 min, at all. It's only one year. It sounds like it's best for the program, so they have to do it.

Parking will be worse and considerably more expensive at US Bank Arena if we were to play there.

Not very happy about moving to Kentucky for a year when it could have been in Cincinnati at the banks with ample parking (and roads in and out) and restaurants and bars.

Won't change whether I keep my season tickets (I will and may add some) but may change who from my family can attend what games. 9pm game further away during the week may cut kid from attending.

Can't wait to get back to the on campus arena.
