Fifth Third Arena Renovation

Just a guess, but they're probably just leaving it in for now, then adding a new, big one a few years after it's open. Kind of like how Nippert is getting a new scoreboard soon.

I vaguely remember checking a UC site that state exactly what was all being upgraded after saying on here I hope the video board/ sound system is upgraded. The site said that, yes, both will be upgraded. I'll try and find it.

Okay, that was easy....here's the site: http://www.gobearcats.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/102716aaa.html

You can see, "New HD scoreboard, ribbon boards, sound system & LED lighting to enhance game experience," listed on there.

I'd imagine it's covered in this $87 million renov now, and not separate like Nippert's is. But, I am not sure.

I remember this article but I have heard from some that as the project is taking shape there might not be enough money for it. One was a UCATS rep but not sure if he truly knew. I hope we get new..

I have spoke with several people involved in the Athletic Communications department, and the only reason the main scoreboard remains in the arena is for caution. It is being saved "just in case" something unexpected were to happen that would cause money to be pulled from the scoreboard funding. The video board and ribbon boards are included in the budget and are planned, but you can't blame them for planning for the worst. Regardless, we will have new video and ribbon boards at some point.

Man, that ugly video board hanging above a newly renovated arena would look terrible. I hope everyone goes as planned!

Chad said the team set to re-open the arena next year is set and it's a huge deal. I'm going to recklessly speculate until he drops the news on who it is.

I'm guessing UK or OSU...............or maybe it's the biggest draw of them all, Huggy Bear and WVU.

Ill be honest, I dont want it to be West Virginia or Ohio State

Huggins is gone. I'd rather move on and not let him have any play in this new arena. Especially when he had a chance to promote UC some to join the big 12 and said none of the teams were good enough basically.

And OSU is going to suck. Why let them get national exposure on our behalf when they'd never do the same for us.

I hope its a blue blood. Indiana, duke, UNC, and even UK. But my guess is OSU or WVU

I just hope if it's OSU, we start playing them every year. I agree on West Virginia. Not really interested in that whole thing.
