Fight

No, and they shouldn't. The UC/X fight was way, way, way worse. It was a brawl. Last nights was two guy briefly going at each other and the other players were pulling them away. Not even close.

Seriously lol, I mean Yancy laid oger boy out and destroyed his face. It was better than a prime time boxing event.

I think the Crosstown Shootout looked so bad because Yancy's punch landed. Honestly, if he misses there, it wouldn't have been as big of a deal. The Notre Dame and St. John's players looked like women swinging wildly at each other...non-issue.

I disagree. Whether a punch lands or not shouldn't matter. It is the intent that should be punished. Just because someone sucks at punching someone doesn't mean they wanted to hit the person any less. The only reason this isn't a big deal is because it is ND. Period.

Oh, please, it has nothing to do with it being ND. The SJU guy threw a punch anyhow. Saying last night's fight was similar to the brawl last year is just dumb.

Perhaps I explained poorly. I agree with you, it does not matter. I am just saying that is a big reason why the media played our fight up so much while ESPN highlighted the fight last night like it was just a normal part of the game. Same with LeGarrette Blount punching that Boise player. You think he would have been suspended a whole season if he had missed and then the players were separated? No, it's all perception.

Oh boo hoo, why are UC fans so freaking whiny about everything? Go throw yourself a pity party elsewhere. This was no where near the situation last year.

On a side note: Watch the video...they show a man in the stands that looks like Rodney Allen Rippy as an adult! Yes, we have a Roddney Allen Rippy sighting.

A fight is a fight. Based on most of the country's response to our brawl last year then both these player's should have their careers ended for throwing punches...

I will say I commend the rest of the teams for not joining in. The only difference between this and our game was it only involved two guys. But had this happened one foot from the bench or these guys were rivals it probably would have escalated further. I personally don't get too high and mighty over stuff like this. Stuff like this happens. Punish the players accordingly and move on.

Very true. I guess there is a difference between UC-XU hate and ND-St. John's "hate".

Seriously? No, I think a fight where multiple people are throwing hay makers and a player stomps on another players head is just a tad worse. Last night was two guys, one (maybe two) punches thrown and everyone else just tried to break it up. That didn't happen in the UC-XU game. No comparison at all.

Honestly, that's fair. I have been on the side that thought the ND-StJ fight should have been covered more. There is no doubt they were different fights, but they seemed very similar. I forgot the stomping and such, which brings it to another level.

I see your point and can agree to an extent. My point was more toward the coverage/lack of coverage as the thread suggested. To me fighting is fighting. There were more involved in our fight. The head stomping was dirty, but honestly to me a punch is just as bad as far as malice intended. Different scenarios instigating what happened and honestly a fight in a heated rivalry to me is more excusable or maybe expected than a player starting something out of nowhere in a game where the two teams and players have no history or reason for bitterness. FWIW the only outrage for the most part in our fight was Gates landing one punch, so a fight between two players landing punches should have equal outrage.

So what's everyone's thought on this?

Multiple players involved, multiple players throwing and landing punches and one player even throwing something into the stands. Important to note too that this is a sporting event that is supposed do good for international goodwill. Also important to note that there will be no suspensions. Is there any outrage? Are these young men no good thugs? Should their career's be ended?

Votto, get the hell out of the way, that's my thought. Last thing the Reds need is for Votto to tear an ACL fighting Mexicans in the WBC.

my thoughts; that was a pretty good throwdown. if i was pitching and a guy bunts with
a 6 run lead im throwing one in his ribs. guess i'm old school like that.

the maple leaf clearly won the fight. looks like all 40 people in the stands enjoyed it.

the wbc is stupid and has no point. if i was a mlb gm i would ban any players from playing in it.
