UCF Round 2

Had no business being in that game at all. Not a bad loss or anything, hell we were an underdog for a reason tonight.

Still disappointed to see The quality of how they played though. This team is a master of feeling like you're getting dominated, hanging around, and making it a close contest. UCF made a few bigger plays down the stretch and that was that.

We all knew winning every close game wasn't sustainable, and tonight it didn't bounce our way.

On to Houston, play better, and go get a conference title.

Didnt get to watch the game but not too surprised/disappointed from the reports I'm seeing. Glad to see Tre finally show some life on offense.

How big of a hindrance was Brooks's foul trouble? Did Cumberland step up his play in the second half or did he leave a lot to be desired?

Not an issue IMO. Taco wasn't dominating, most of their scoring came from Taylor who carved up our guards.

Brooks is definitely the only guy that can somewhat battle with taco, everyone else just got bullied. There center/pf/sf is 7’6, 6’11,6’9 so it’s not a great matchup for us.

I think they are the better team, they are stacked. Offensively everyone but Allen is a really good player and then I think Allen is the best defender in our conference, they should win the conference tournament.

I disagree to an extent. Brooks plays Tacko 1:1. Others need help. The help left others open.

Not having to do with brooks, but having Tacko in the paint (for 7-8 seconds like the announcers said) really makes it tough on dribble penetration. If a guy beat you, help cannot come off Tacko as it’s just an easy lob and dunk.

Getting a little tired of Cumberland just going 100 mph toward the rim. It ends in some wild shots and turnovers. He is much better when he is being deliberate with his moves and fakes and using his step back in the lane. Williams has similar issues. They were defending those attacks very well and we just kept going right into the teeth of the defense.

Once again, I think our decision making at times is suspect.

Nice to see Scott have a good game. For the most part he played a lot smarter and part of me was hoping he would have taken a couple more 3's since he was feeling comfortable last night and we were not getting off good shots for much of the game.

Brooks in some games doesn't even seem to be aware of what it means to be a little cautious with his fouls. Here are some of his games.

5 fouls in 13 minutes
5 fouls in 11 minutes
5 in 20
5 in 24

4 in 9
4 in 14
4 in 19
4 in 20
4 in 20
4 in 23
4 in 23

We need him on the boards and rim protection. Most of these games he has either fouled out or we had to sit him on the bench for too much of the game. He needs to figure out a way to stay on the court 25 minutes plus.

Jarron is an amazing talent, but he needs to lose the little pouty attitude that he has. His body language is just awful. Taco should of had a flagrant, I also love how he complains about every call he doesn't get but then wants to act like a tough guy and puff his chest out when he blocks a shot, congrats dude you're 7'6. He also spends 8+ seconds just camping in the lane and not once was called for 3 seconds or the 5 steps he would take when he got the ball under the basket. I am not even going to say anything about the officiating because it spoke for itself. They also stormed the court when we were only ranked 5 spots apart and they were the favorite, extremely embarrassing on there part.

On to Houston.... Go Cats

I thought, vs most nights, that the officiating wasn't that bad. Sure a few here and there. But the end of the game was when the officiating crew decided to step up and make a couple bad calls that really impacted the game.

That said, we didn't lose because of officials. We lost because we had no idea how to get a good shot. We lost because of lazy defense getting back. We lost because we couldn't stay in front of their guards and because of Tacko we couldn't help. We lost cause we had way too many turnovers in critical situations and they were faster to almost every loose ball. And sure, a couple of bad bounces lead to a several point swing.

If everyone played with the effort Scott gave (man did he do a great job following the scouting report when he had to defend in the post) we would have been fine.

In limited minutes I thought Trevor looked a lot more confident with his shooting. I like it when he has little time to think about the shot and just let his muscle memory take over. He was about 1 inch from going 2 for 2 and that would have been a huge shot had the last one fell. He hasn't been air balling as many as he did early in the season. Looks like he is getting dialed in and more comfortable. That could be a much needed weapon for us.

Diara did a decent job of filling in. Looks like he has potentially passed up Eliel. He could be an interesting factor as well for us when we need to score some points.

Agree 100%, we gave up way to many offensive rebounds even when Taco was on the bench. We just looked really sluggish at times and even with that we had a chance to tie. Cane had a great look at the end but just couldn't knock it down. I agree the officials did not cost us the game, the effort level did.

Based on Cumberland's performance in the last month, he would be foolish to declare unless he just wants European money.

Trevor was also told by coach to foul tacko with 1.30 left... he fouled bj Taylor instead.

He has his role, but is a complete spaz out there. Needs to slow the f down and play smarter.

The great John Wooden said it best, "Play fast but don't hurry".

Well to some people's request Mick played Brooks with 4 fouls and look what happened. He has 14 games of 4 or more fouls. Mick stated that they cannot win with Brooks playing 12 mins.

Most telling stat, Cumberland 1 FT, Fall 0 FT's.

I am amazed that Trevor could not know the scouting report. Was fouling Tacko not discussed before 2 minutes left in the game? Next time send a senior or upperclassman to follow instructions.

What point are you trying to make? Would you rather have sat him on the bench until the final minute after picking up his fourth foul with 14 minutes left? He re-entered the game with 5 minutes left. Was that too early for you? You think that had a significant impact on the result?
