After looking over the roster, I really hope the below is the starting lineup next season.

PG: Cane Broome
SG: Jarron Cumberland
SF: Trevor Moore
PF: Rashawn Fredericks
PF: Tre Scott

Cane has to start and be a featured part of the offense. Last year, we didn't need him to be, this year we do. We need him to be #2 featured guy on the team. Jarron is our go to scorer and creator. Trevor Would start because you absolutely need floor spacing and shooting in this lineup. Jarron and Cane get the defense moving, then a quick kick to Trevor for the 3. Fredericks seems to be a guy who can come in and start right away. He rebounds well and can score as well as shoot. Tre Scott is the big man I trust the most on the roster and his defensive allows us to switch 2-5 on any one.

I think thats a pretty positionless basketball lineup with skill, Athleticism and toughness.

As for the bench:
PG Justin Jenifer
G Keith Williams
G Logan Johnson
F LaQuill Hardnett
F Mamoudou Diarra
C Eliel Nsesome
C Nysier Brooks

The bench lacks a reliable scoring threat, however I feel Keith Williams can pick up role and could even move into the starting role if his 3 point shot starts to drop a little more. Logan Johnson IMO will have an impact on this team. Im not sure if it will be from the PG sport or the SG spot, but i really like the film i watched on him. Jenifer will be the steady hand and protect the ball and the lead, and can hopefully continue his upward trend of 3 point shooting. Nseome is the guy we put in if we need intensity and rebounding. Hardnett probably doesn't play much and could even redshirt. Nysier Brooks could have a real impact on this team if he works his ass off over the summer and gets better. Im not giving up on him just yet. Bigs like him, sometimes don't blossom until JR or SR year.

The X Factor: Diarra.
If he can keep his focus and develop some basketball IQ, he could be a real scoring threat off the bench. He has a ton of skill, just needs to slow down and understand the game better. If he has a great summer, and he plays to his strengths, I think he has a real shot of very bright future, both as a bearcat and professionally.

I agree.

I think he'll start a more traditional lineup with:
Cane
Cumberland
Fredericks
Scott
Brooks

but play 4 guards a lot with the starting lineup Hub recommended with an even split between KW and Trevor

I'll be shocked if Moore doesn't start. I won't be shocked if Brooks and/or Jenifer do start.

If we run out a starting lineup of:

Jenifer
Broome
Cumberland
Scott
Brooks

I think I'll lose my ......

or worse:

Jenifer
Moore
Cumberland
Scott
Brooks

I agree that this would drive me crazy but lets pump the breaks and think out loud for a minute. Cronin doesn't like turnovers and we didn't need a riskiness pg due to the 4 starters we had last year so Jennifer made sense for Cronin. 3 year system guy, plays defense, no turnovers. I think Cronin really wanted to let Cane get comfortable last year so he can be ready to take the reigns this year. This doesn't mean I agree with this logic. I thought by mid year (well really right away), Cane should have been starting but I guess why fix what is not broken? If Jennifer gets pulled from starting mid season by not really screwing anything up and actually playing extremely hard, decent on defense, and improving his shot, we could have lost any type of production we had in him. Jennifer comes off the bench and loses his starting position who knows how his demeanor would have been. Cronin Kept both PGs happy. Cane probably averaged more minutes towards the end of the season but Jennifer still felt good knowing he was the starter. Now I think Jennifer will be more accepting of his role this year, knowing we need Cane's offense ability more than ever. I also heard many times that Jennifer took it to Cane plenty at practice so it was probably hard to grant Cane the reigns.

I think Cane Cumberland and Tre Scott are guarantee starters. Now we know Cronin and how he can be so if Jennifer started I guess it wouldn't totally surprise me but I'm really trying to give him the benefit of the doubt here.

I think with Fredericks experience and abilities he brings he takes Evan's starting position.

Now, if Cronin is running with the more traditional 3 guard 2 big lineup it's for sure going to be Brooks. If Cronin is starting 4 guards it's either going to be KW or Trevor with the minutes probably even throughout the year.

I guess my point is that I can see why Jennifer started over Cane last year. That doesn't mean I agree with it at all. I couldn't get over certain things that went on last year. Still, 6 minutes for Cane in the @ Houston loss makes me sick. But I really think Cronin and the rest of the team knows now that it is time for Cane to start.

Hope you're right but can anyone remember a returning starter as a Jr. NOT starting his Sr. year for Cronin's teams?

That's a good question. Probably never, but have we ever had two senior pgs on one team? He has to make a choice and it's clear who the right choice would be.

I think we could see a lot more variability in the starting lineup next year.

Other team has a traditional center/PF combo:

Broome
Cumberland
Fredericks
Scott
Brooks

Other team runs a smaller lineup out:

Broome
Moore/Williams
Cumberland
Fredericks
Scott

Scott is only 6'8. I don't see him playing much center against teams with a traditional big. I don't know how to look it up, but I feel like he rarely played with Gary last year and was mostly his sub, while Brooks/Nsoseme subbed in at center.

I thought this article was really interesting in discussing how the sixers manage to have two superstars and just generally the NBA's take on it. Mick is going to have to do a lot more lineup managing this year and get guys out with the right players.

For instance, Diarra may be able to play 15 minutes a game, but Brooks needs to be out there with him for all 15 minutes to cover for defensive lapses. Or Fredericks and Scott can't be on the floor together because it gives up too much size inside etc etc. I don't care so much about who starts so much as who plays the most together.

Scott should be fine at the 5. He's long, athletic, and has put some weight on over the past couple years. What teams that we play have a traditional big that would kill him in the post? We might need a little more size against a Houston or UCF or someone for rebounding but it's not much of a concern for me overall. Scott is a modern 5. Make teams adjust to him being able to operate away from the basket offensively and use him in the pick and roll game. We don't always have to have that old school defensive mindset in our game planning.

I know I've brought this up, but when does Nsoseme play? I have very real concerns about him being on the court when we are in the bonus. His FT shooting is that bad. Can't afford to basically have a TO every possession if a team decides to foul him.

I definitely don't think it's necessary for Brooks to have to be out there with Diarra at all times.

If Fredericks is really that good of a rebounder, I also don't see why he and Scott can't play a lot together.

Again, it'd be nice to make teams adjust to us for once instead of always worrying so much about defensive matchups. We've done the defensive matchups thing for years and we end up with guys like Brooks, Nsoseme, and Jenifer scoring 2 points combined in over 30 minutes like against Wichita. It can be too much overcoaching.

I was just using those as random examples I made up that I thought made some level of sense. My larger point was that both offensively and defensively we don't have such a set lineup as last year or guys with as defined rolls.

Mick is going to have to do probably his best coaching job this year, but I actually think this team is extremely talented, they just need to put it all together.

We realistically need to see more out of last year's class. That class was ok but like we've talked about we have always had somewhat of a star in each of the class prior to last years. Someone needs to step up and show us that they have an extremely bright future.

For sure.

For sure.

I think weirdly Nsoseme has a chance to be a total game changer, but like Jacob says, "he needs to be able to provide something on offense." I just can't get his 4 blocks in 8 minutes out of my head.

But in reality, the one that I think that if any of them are going to be a SK/Evans/Clark level superstar, it has to be Diarra. It might just be that I'm going with the old "back-up QB syndrome" where you always think they are better than the starter, but frankly I just didn't see anything out of Moore and Williams that made me think they have that type of potential.

Diarra has the greatest chance to produce absolutely nothing out of that class. He was so raw and so far behind. His ceiling might be the highest but I think he's got much too far to go to give us anything this year. I'm just hoping by his sr year he'll be playable.

I see where you are coming from, but I think you're being a bit hard on him. I thought he showed good instincts in his limited time last year, he just needs to learn the positioning aspect of it. I realize it was against mostly a bunch of nobodies, but in a grand total of 46 minutes of playing time, he scored 20 points on 7-20 shooting (35%), 1/2 from 3, 5/6 from the line, 13 boards, 2 assists, 5 blocks, 1 steal, only 3 fouls and 4 TO's.

Pretty obvious statement since everyone from that recruiting class has produced something on the court and Mamadou hasn't touched the court

He was recruited by Romar at UW who is a good recruiter and has a good eye for talent, I think many will be surprised by him and his athleticism this year

I agree with cincrulz, Diarra easily looked the roughest which is why he was redshirted when he only had a minor injury. Sure there's potential there, but he has to develop both offensively and defensively. I have to think Keith Williams has the best chance to be something special from last year's class. He has to lose his selfish type of play to flourish under Cronin, but talent-wise he seems like he's right there. I like Nsoseme and Moore both as well. I agree Nsoseme needs to develop something offensively, but he could be really special defensively. Moore could be good on both ends, especially if (or hopefully when) his shots start falling. He already gives hustle and good defense and has length which goes along well with Cronin's defensive approach.

So remind me, we were going to try to red shirt him right? Was it approved?
