After Lance and Lawrence situations I believe Mick lost his hunger for recruiting studs. Same excuses fabs had for Mick already starting for new coach. Why would we hire a local guy if he didn't have connections with local Mr basketball? What happened to recruiting 100mile radius harder than ever from him? I find it hard to believe that he didn't at least offer Samari. Not much difference from Wisconsin bball and Ohio.

Lawrence? Mitchell?

Wasn't Mitchell having off the Court issues? J Lawrence ok I would of loved to keep him, but other than that players who have transferred from here were more of the I can't compete with guys around me/playing time variety and not the I hate this place and the coach. That's been the case all the back to the Huggins Aaron McGee, Antwaun Jones, Chris Williams type guys... Brannnen is behind the 8ball somewhat but he was supposed to come here and build on the momentum already established

Neither had any semblance of a career after they left Clifton so I don't view them as major losses for the program or bad marks on Cronin's transfer record.
Both was in Mick top 10 recruits. He don't like studs. He use to reel them in with ease. Mick was one of best if not best recruiters 15-20yrs ago

Mcgee was a stud. Just got replaced for demarr Johnson. BTW, it was Mick that went to mcgee about basically getting cut. He went on to become all American at Oklahoma

Mick pulled in 3 5 star recruits to cincinnati

When he was recruiting to the big east. AAC killed that momentum

No

Our last coach also avoided the transfer epidemic.

Lol. What kind of response is “No”. You throw out statements, people prove you incorrect with facts. And you respond - “no”.

If you consider Nysier Brooks transferring an “epidemic” I’m not sure how anyone can have a rationale conversation with you.

Oh yeah I remember, he helped oust David west and those Xavier dudes out the tournament loved watching that

My guy check the last 5 years... now check it against the average D1 team.

Lolol hell check it against Xavier.

It’s ok if you want to not take the actual facts into account. That’s your choice. Mick came from a **** conference too, he lost Downey, he had multiple transfers over the years, failed to develop 4 and 5 star recruits into anything meaningful, never did anything meaningful in the big east, failed in the ncaa. tourney, then he chose to leave. Give it up

Dude Nysier transferring is a big deal for this team. Diarra isn't ready, it's going to be an interesting experiment... Nsoseme did get hurt but his low post scoring is atrocious... It's crazy how all of a sudden Curtis and Nysier are just no big deal transfers. Like previous posters have said we rarely have to go through the key contributer transfer those suck... And I believe Curtis was a contributor and another potential great

While I know it's still very early in the offseason I'm feeling a lot of the same uneasiness that J-Hub is communicating about our short term future.

The Curtis decommitment bothers me for a number of reasons.

1) He was brought in to be "the" guy for the 2019 recruiting class. An offensive playmaker who would be given every opportunity to develop into a star for us over a 4 year career. Our program has been dependent on having one of "those" guys enter the program every year for the past 5-6 years and it's been a staple of balance and consistency for our program. Caupain was that guy as a frosh, then Clark, then Evans, then Cumberland, then Williams (albeit a little less so), then Johnson (similar situation to Williams), and now it was supposed to be Curtis.

There doesn't appear to be a plan B out there for us to bring in a true frosh of a similar caliber for this class.

2) Brannen's ability to sell to Curtis.

Wouldn't Brannen's offensive system be more enticing to a player like Curtis over Cronin's? Curtis seemingly had an opportunity to be the first guard off the bench for us next year and play big minutes on a top 25 team. While a number of factors may have factored into Curtis's decision to decommit, I think Brannen does need to hold at least a little accountability in not being able to convince Curtis to stay.

3) Momentum

The gap between us and the AAC teams that have been "below" us for the past several seasons is closing fast and it's possible that a few teams will pass us up over this offseason. If we fall into the middle of the pack in the AAC next season, I'm not confident Brannen will be able to recruit studs like UConn, Memphis and Houston has that will help us leap frog our way back to the top. It's important that we do everything we can to maintain our status as a top dog in this league before we fall into a level of obscurity that may be too much to overcome later on.

Jesus Christ.

I’m saying we aren’t used to losing starters to the transfer market. Especially over the last 5 years when the transfer market has been at its peak

The 2020 class is the most important for uc basketball in the last 10 years.

I’ll give Brannen a chance. But to me, I need to see dominance in the 2020 class. If you can’t fill tha class with good talent, you never will

A lot of 2020 kids start committing in the next 4-5 months

We don’t even have a proper staff to kick this off right

Agree on everything.

I don't understand your reasoning. We went through the exact same thing when Cronin took over and he has never been dominant in recruiting, when while in the big east.

Curtis is about to be on his 3rd commit in less than a year. Clearly the kid isn't huge on loyalty and just talks about "choosing the school" or whatever other crap he said. To act like Cronin was so much better at recruiting him when he chose Xavier over us first is just silly.

Dude I didn’t want Cronin to leave ether, but you gotta give brannen a chance here, the only sure thing that has happened is Curtis decommitted everything else you really don’t have any clue about nor do I give him at least a season before you start making accusations.

Haha what? Def don't hold the decommit from Xavier against him, nor these recent events.. and this situation definitely isn't the same as the Cronin situation coming in

I think this just shows the myth that players didn't want to play for Cronin or in Cronin's system is just that, a myth. Samari is already a very good offensive player. Is it crazy to think he wanted work on his weakness (defense)? Or that he wanted to play for a coach he already had a good relationship with. Or of many other things that Cronin did (send guys to the NBA who are praised for their D, make the NCAA tournament every year, be top of the conference) that Brannen hasn't yet.

Brannen needs time to build his name, his style and his brand at UC. I don't think he takes much blame for losing a player who may have wanted to play for a more proven coach.
