The longer we go without seeing another name in the transfer portal the better I feel about Johnson. Not hearing much news about Curtis seems like a positive sign too. Not sure how long they can go without putting their name out there if they wanted to.

If we can keep Scott, Williams, Johnson, Curtis...and if Cumberland comes back I will be very excited! Again, I don't hold out much hope for Brooks...but keeping the rest would be huge for CJB. Especially if we can nab a transfer or two.

Locking them all down would be a major coup. Oh to be a fly on the wall in Brannen's office right now. No news is probably good news right now.

Thats a dreadful comparison though.

WSU had a complete rebuild. This years WSU team will be 2-3x better than last year. I mean, they had like 11 new players.

You can't play in the big dance if you don't win your league or at least compete for a league title.

I 100% expect John Brannen to make the tourney every single year without exception. Thats a bare minimum to match Cronin. And then I expect a sweet 16 every 3 years.

So In 9 years, I expect 9 tourney births, 3 sweet 16's and multiple guys drafted.,

People have said thats what we deserve so its what i will expect.

That was your comparison not mine. You said Wright State won with defense but their defense wasn't much better unless I am missing something

Check out Samari's Instagram page in his story. samari_41. He polls people on which number he should pick, 15 or 25, and then somebody he tags says: Samari Curtis University of Cincinnati Class of 2023.

I'll take that as a good sign!!!:)

You realize that he went on Standby because of the contract dispute. Bohn made a terrible offer and then didn't want to meet Mick's not so crazy demands.

Cronin wasn't Bohn's guy. He couldn't fire him but he absolutely did nothing to try and keep him. Nothing

mick was trying to get out of here when the offseason started, thats what the whole decoursey bullcrap article was about. he got his buddy to write him a nice fluff piece without even attempting to reach out to the school.

im sure bohn appreciated that like any like boss would.

cronin doesn't fit in with what bohn wants from his coaches. accountable guys with class. mick blamed everybody else and came off like a whiner crybaby on tv. it was a real nice parting shot to jenifer and broome to say "obviously they're not the most talented players in the world. Cane got recruited by Sacred Heart, Justin is my size. When I'm hugging guys that are almost my size, it tells you."

its going to be nice to hear a coach that doesn't talk about his players like that, and nice to have a coach that doesn't complain the teams he has to play in the tournament are too good, and nice to have a coach that won't try to fight the JP Macura's of the world for being mean to them in the hand shake line.

all of that crap was embarrassing and im glad its gone. he's lucky he wasn't at UCLA when he tried to fight another teams player, the media would have crucified him.

justin all the jackass rambling in the world on this board isn't going to change the situation. Wait and see what happens in season play before commenting on Bohn's good or bad choice of action.

Something every college hoops fan should understand: It's going to take a coach at least a year to get recruiting in place and a couple years to get a team that's working in the best direction of what he wants. That's reality for almost any college program.

I think they can make the tournament with the players we thought would be back, but if that changes it's not on Brannen that they chose to leave. But it's college kids playing college hoops: not the end of the world.

nobody that is intelligent guaranteed any of that. people have said this program is capable of doing things like that.

but you didn't even want us to hire anybody this year, you thought we should go a year with no coach.

you thought mick was so amazing that none of the mid major coaches left were even worth giving a shot. you'd prefer no recruiting or anything for 2 years, and now you're complaining about how slow things are going.

it's hilarious.

Look at his story on IG also, last one is 2 hours ago and someone saying "Samari Curtis, University of Cincinnati Class of 2023" then dunking on a short rim.

I take this as a follow through on his commitment!
Made my day!

Pretty sure that wasn't him saying it. Maybe one of his friends, but nonetheless, a good sign.

Were you in the meetings? Reports on The Athletic indicated they were in negotiations when Mick informed UC he was leaving and it caught UC off guard; and, his contract had been re-negotiated several times to be fair, most recently UNLV a couple years ago.

Actually he just one year left on his deal. When he did the UNLV thing, he didn't even ask for more money.

he asked for locker rooms and to commit to the arena project.

He hadn't had a real raise in close to 5 years or so.

LOL

Its funny, our coach belittled our guys so badly that we seemed to have this epidemic of transfers from our program........ Wait, that was ever other school in America.

Our guys battled for Mick Cronin. Like they went out there and played their ass off every single for Mick Cronin. They loved the dude.

Meanwhile, the second best player that Coach John Brannen ever recruited...... Transferred.

You have no idea what CJB is going to bring to Cincinnati. Stop acting like the Mick Cronin Era was such a torture chamber.

He recruited kids with class that our University can be proud of.

I had Zero issues of keeping Savino in an Interim to hire type situation, especially if we kept our entire roster and he could prove his worth as a coach.

I'll want Coach JB to be successful. But I also will hold him accountable.

People also told us for years that this was a highly desirable job and people would come out of the wood work for this job......

Yea they didn't. The best P5 coach to come out of the search was....... Frank Martin who is trash.

2 things for me that will determine my faith in Coach John Brannen:

1. Making the tourney in year 1 if Jarron returns
2. The 2020 class being elite

the 2020 class is the most important class for UC in a long long time. We have multiple open spots and not a single one needs to be filled with a project player. I don't even wanna see us offer 3 star kids. If John Brannen is the real deal, then the 2020 class is the rock for which he builds this program.

I assume you weren't in the meetings nor have any info to refute the story in The Athletic as that was not addressed in your reply. For the record I was a Mick supporter, but I think it was time for a change for both parties. Whether that works out for either is yet to be determined. I hope it works out better for both! I'll certainly be following UCLA more closely now.

So CJB needs to recruit way better than Mick for you to be just ok with him?

This is getting old dude. We all know you wanna cuddle with Cronin. People recognize what your man crush did here, we also recognized that there were the same issues popping up and not being addressed. Mick failed in March. The Nevada game could have been the death blow to his coaching at UC but he was lucky.

Would I have fired him? No, I think he did enough last year to restore some faith.

Am I sad he is gone? Not a lot. I’ll be a little sad if it means Curtis doesn’t come or some other kids leave.

Remember, he wakes out the door on his own to coach the team he used to stay up at night and watch hoping he got the chance to coach them. While he was our coach, he wanted out. He even almost bailed for UNLV for Christ sake. See ya mick. Thanks for getting us in solid ground. Sorry you left your “dream job”

Come on man....quit being disingenuous. Nobody claimed coaches would be coming out of the P5 and run to this job. We got started late in the search or maybe we would have had a couple more options but who knows if we would have landed with anyone different.

Expecting us to land ALL 4 or 5 star recruits is also ridiculous. Nobody ever said that either. Did people say we should be able to get more of them? Yes. Will we? Who knows. But all I know is that I would like to see better basketball players come out of it. More skills and less project types who can't shoot or dribble. If that is 3 star or 4 star I don't care. The big thing is being able to put the ball in the hole.

I am definitely hoping for an uptick in recruiting stars to go along with it...but we aren't expecting miracles here.

Trying to get a good handle on what losing Brooks means to our team especially considering a new coaching style.

If I had to grade him out I would give him a B in Cronin's style. He's a good defender and rebounder but not a high end scorer. I actually think his shot might be decent enough to attempt a 3 here or there though.

I don't know if we could replace him with equal value on the market UNLESS there are better fits for the system out there. On our current roster I don't think Eliel fits the mold but Diara probably does and maybe either Gillam or Hardnett could help move Scott over to the 5. But either of them would have to be able to shoot the ball and it doesn't sound like Hardnett is that type of player yet and Gillam seems more back to the basket style even if his shot is decent. I would expect Brannen to work on their skill set but that could be a year off.

Brannen could be thinking Diara is the only real fit unless or until he can get the other guys perfecting their shots. So if Brooks leaves Brannen may be thinking he's going to want another big who can knock down a 3 even if it's not a true 5. If that man is out there right now I say make an offer...if not I say wait it out.

Brooks rim protection was off the charts.

We were such a better team when he was on the floor. If Brannen is going to be pressing then you absolutely need a guy like brooks to protect the rim.

I'd say he is most likely gone. but we aren't going to find a good replacement this late in the cycle/

In my opinion, Diarra might be the perfect 5 man for Brannen's system.
