Only reason why I ask is because Vidal tweeted that he was going to try to get another year.

According to Paul Dehner Jr. in this morning's Bearcat Breakfast, UC and Vidal will be applying for another year. He played in 2006, 2007, and 2008 at USC (with a couple of those years riddled with injury). Sat out 2009 due to transfer rules and thus, because he did not voluntarily sit out (i.e. - redshirt), he will have an opportunity to gain another year. It doesn't mean that it will happen but there are cases like his where the NCAA has ruled in favor of the athlete. To be honest, I would be surprised if he isn't given another year.
Also, Paul said that it will happen after the season. Quite frankly, the NCAA should get their shit together and be able to hear this case during the season. The fact that they are so inefficient is really inexcusable.

Pulled this off the headlines thread as it is relevant to our discussion. Sounds like to get a sixth year you need two years taken from you by means out of your control. The NCAA considers transferring as something you control. So for him to get his sixth year the NCAA would have to rule that his 2008 season was lost due to injury. I know he missed time that year because of an injury, but I don't think it was a clear-cut case of him being out the whole year as he was not medically redshirted. Reminds me of the Ben Mauk situation. I would highly doubt this decision goes in our favor. This is a real bummer. I was excited to see what he could do on the field for us.
I would say the fact that he wasn't redshirted at USC will be his demise. The NCAA could probably care less why he chose to transfer.
The transfer might be his demise but the lack of a redshirt is a good thing. The NCAA views a redshirt as a voluntary act by the student athlete.
