Sunday's home game against Marquette is obviously a huge one for the Bearcats. In my opinion, if UC can go 3-2 in its final five regular season games, the team would be right on the NCAA bubble going to the Big East Tournament since two of those victories would have to be "quality wins."

Tuesday night's offensive performance at USF was ugly, but the NCAA tournament committee doesn't watch every minute of every game, they only go by results and a road loss at USF isn't a deal-breaker.

Every bracketologist - without exception - has Cincinnati right in the mix for one of the final spots in the Field of 65.

Let's hope the 'Cats seize the opportunity beginning with critical back-to-back home wins over Marquette and DePaul.

Marquette is going to be very tough to beat, even at home. Do you match up with them or make them match up with you? I hope UC gives it to Gates early and tells him that he needs to get 20 points. Make Marquette try to match up with UC's size.

ps - I've been gone for a while for various reasons but it's nice to see this board getting some talk going.

I always respected what Hoard has to say and I agree it will take 3 of the next 5 to get in the NCAA.

It all starts this afternoon with MU!

Here's to the Cats coming out mentally focused and prepared. I hope Yancy breaks the backboard!

I don't understand why Gates doesn't get the ball down low more often. I agree, pound it in.

Good question.

You make them match up with you. I will take easy buckets from short distance hope we can defend their outside short.

UC goes with power inside. The bearcats can't compete with going small as our guards aren't:
-as good shooting
-dribbling
-passing
-driving

Make Marquette adjust. The first five minutes will show us what the game plan is.

Absolutely make them match up with you. We are absolutely massive compared to them, and our big guys can guard the 3 better than their guards could stop us down low. Go big, and watch them crumble.

I don't disagree with this, but we will have problems matching up on defense. None of our bigs can guard on the perimeter. Marquette will pretty much say "screw it" and roll with the small lineup. They really don't have a choice.

We'll win this game if our bigs can play "decent" perimeter defense. McGee of Pitt did a decent job, so I hope Toyloy, Gates, Thomas and Wilks can at least match McGee's output. I'm not talking about smother defense. I just want our bigs to contest on the perimeter.

I thought about the problems on D. The thing that concerns me is that we lose any advantage on offense by going small. If we do go with smaller guys, then post up Bishop or Lance on a smaller guy and use that advantage. Whichever we do, we need to exploit their weakness.

I agree. I'd rather see us go big and live with what happens. I'd rather lose playing to our strengths than lose playing to Marquette's.
