But like Cronin always says: the most irrelevant stat in basketball is the score at halftime. We're a second half team. I have no isssues with letting the younger guys get work in the least important part of the game. They held the lead so even better

I can definitely see both sides of it. And there are situations where I'd agree to sit him. But for me personally, it was clear as day that we weren't the same and it could've cost us. It didn't last night. So it doesn't matter. I just hope that's not a general rule for Caupain bc it clearly isn't for Johnson (or Cumberland but that may have been due to the overall backcourt situation). If we're in a big game in March I'd hate to see Caupain sit for so long then end the game nowhere close to foul trouble. He's too important. Sit him for a stretch right when he gets the 2nd and see what happens, fine. But if we start to get in trouble, he can steady things. He's never fouled out in his entire career (116 games). He's only picked up 4 fouls 5 total times and only twice as an upperclassman. I think the concern for him specifically is being overstated.

I mean, we can't always complain about our bench never getting trusted in big games then turn around and complain about benching caupain with 2 fouls. He trusted his guys and that should say a lot to those guys on the bench even if they weren't exactly good out there. Against good teams, our bench may not be a +
Team but we might only need them to keep it even. I'd bet if we lost the lead completely, Troy would have came back.

Also TC playing with 2 fouls in the first half puts a target on his back, Robinson and gray are pretty damn good at taking guys off the dribble and could bait him into a cheap foul

Jenifer got a chance, as he should've. He did nothing with it...to the point where we used an emergency PG. I want to develop the bench as much as anyone else, but last night wasn't the game for Jenifer. He played very poorly.

Caupain is smarter than that. As is Johnson, as you could see when he let them take the fastbreak layup but it was Jenifer who put on a whimpy foul to give them an And 1.

I, for one did not have a good felling about this game. The fact that we totally took Houston out of their game. Great scouting job by the staff. Even though it was close at times the game never felt in doubt. Now the next game will a very tough to challenge. SMU is easily a top 25 team. I'm excited!

Are we really doing this? Do we really need 3 people piling on about a wrong score prediction? C'mon man.

How is it I always get heckled or preached to or blocked for giving back a little to all his negativity. Meanwhile his constant downing of everything run rampant and no one bats an eye.

UC played another good game, there was some definite periods of offensive lull. But our defensive was able to still keep the game in our control during those periods. We aren't gonna be UK or UNC putting up 90 all the time, but we also aren't gonna give up 70-80 points a game either. We play a different style, why is that such a bad thing. We are winning, winning games against some pretty good teams. Undefeated in conference play and only 2 losses on the season and a soon to be top 20 team, lets see the bright side for a little. The team is playing better together each game, we have players who can score at every position, and can make up for an off night for a guy or 2. Our defense is one of the best in the country and we've proven if it turns into a high scoring affair we can do that too if need be. All this saying we don't have the team to make a tourney run is BS. Our team had proven exactly what they need to up to this point. We've won close games, road games, games against some pretty tough competition. This team is gonna end up with a pretty good seed and minus some bad draws we should make a decent run in the tourney this year, id be very disappointed with anything less than a sweet 16.

Jon, NTS is a huge fan of the program. He enjoys the give and take and really just likes the conversation. Like lots of us his frustration gets the best of him at times. He really post some excellent info at times. My advice is do not take it personal. He is not a guy who turns every topic into a I hare coach debate.

Who are you talking to? The overwhelming majority of posts in this thread are saying good things about the team and the game last night. We weren't perfect but you make it sound like you've read nothing but negativity. I don't see that at all. You also talk about us being a different style team? Not really anymore imo. You go on to say yourself that we can win any type of game...so we really don't seem to be completely stuck in the rock fight style. It has happened, yes. But it has been more rare this year than any in recent history. I mean, we're averaging about 80 ppg halfway through the season. A lot of things people are typically negative about don't apply nearly as much to this team. I think the tone on the board reflects that. I'm really not sure what you're seeing. But the bolded parts feel like strawman arguments to me. Or at best apply to an extremely small minority.

Great win last night, on the road against what I suspect to be the 3rd or 4th best team in the conference.

I think this team has a different feel to it than previous years (last 2-3) because of their chemistry and belief. This feels like the tight knit group that played the last few years in the Big East. I think we have 9 guys who wouldn't care if they posted 0 points as long as we won, and as easy as that sounds, not every team has that.

SMU will be big, but 13-2, 3-0 is about as good without being overzealous that anyone thought pre-season.
