I don't know if anyone was watching St. John's/Rutgers but Jim Burr and his crew cost Rutgers the game. There was an over the back call that was not called with under 10 seconds to go. Then after St. John's made one of two free throws, Rutgers threw a long pass with 4.9 seconds to go. The ball was deflected with a lot of contact (good no call there) but then a St. John's player ran out of bounds with the ball with 1.7 seconds left. He then threw it in the air and the officials ran off the court. Rutgers should have had the ball at mid court with 1.7 seconds trailing by 2. If Jim Burr isn't fired after this game, then it is obvious the league doesn't care about the quality of the officiating.

To make it worse, Jim Burr AND Tim Higgins were officiating that game. Doug Gottlieb said after that he thinks at the very least, these officials should not officiate the rest of the tournament. I couldn't agree more. They are TERRIBLE!!

if im mike rice id be tossing monitors and throwing chairs in the postgame press conference. that was ludicrous.

I would take the fine and speak my mind. The only way the officiating is going to change is if the coaches and AD's start speaking their minds.

It's hard enough to win in this league and an outcome like this can cost a coach his job in this league. The refs should be held to the same standard.

I feel so bad for those kids at Rutgers... they played their guts out and deserved an opportunity to win that game at the end.

From Andy Katz:

@ESPNAndyKatz The NCAA controls the officiating crew and those three officials should not officiate in the NCAA tournament. Accountability is key here

And Jay Bilas:

@JayBilas: Really poor job by the officials in the Rutgers-St. John's game. No excuse for a performance like that.

Anyone hear what the Rutgers coach said!?

Id be demanding the game be finished... clearly 1.7 left on the clock. lets go finish this thing!

What a joke, Jim Burr and Tim Higgins should be made to retire. It's so clear they are too old to officiate games anymore. Plain and simple, that was the worst officiating in the final 20 seconds i have EVER seen in my life!

For the best BB conference in America, the officiating is embarrassing. The end of the SJU-RU game should garner some suspensions for the officials. The RU coaching staff, though, was so busy arguing the no foul call that they lost track of whether the game was actually over. At least someone on the staff should have noticed the game was not over when the ball was thrown into the stands and brought it to the attention of the referees. I wonder if it is a technical to throw the ball 30 rows into the stands if there is still time left on the game clock. It's a delay of game call at the very least, but might be a technical. That would have given RU 2 free throws and the ball at midcourt with 1.7 sec left. Just a joke of an ending, and a black mark against BE refereeing.

Those two are the absolute worst in the business...damn they make Cahl and Hightower look like all-pros. I don't understand how in the world those losers have kept their jobs this long...they have cost teams sooo many games, but here is the first time they directly cost one, got people's attention finally.

The best part? We get them for the ND game, assuming we win tonight

my thoughts exactly...unfortunately
Go Bearcats!

Tim Higgins should be in jail along with the dirty NBA ref. His calls are felonious.

I felt horrible for those boys but they handled it all with such class. The crowd was another story. They let it be known how badly the refs messed up as the 3 left the court. What a sad way to end a season. Rutgers played so hard. Absolutely heartbreaking.
