We have to go with the guys that give us the best chance to win...not just the best chance to play great D. We have 3 guys who are no brainers right now with SK, JJ, and TR. SK is not known as a lock down defender but he's got a long leash because of the other things he offers. I am starting to think TC is becoming one of those players we need to have on the court for 25-30 minutes. Who knows who is going to step up and play the minutes at the wing.

I am not saying GG is playing poorly...but TC has the better all around stats and outplayed him by a mile in our biggest game so far...TC's numbers are trending up. They have basically played the same amount of minutes.

Points...7.5 TC...6.5 GG (close but TC trending)
3%...TC 40%...GG 30% (significant)
FG%...40%...GG 39% (same)
FT%...87%...GG 59% (huge and he's been to the line 30 vs 17 times)
Assists...16 TC...9 GG (almost double)
Rebounds...TC 2.5/game...GG 2/game (close)
Steals...9 TC...1 GG (huge)
Good stats! TC is definitely coming around. I think GG is a better ball handler/protector and a better defender with his long arms and quickness, but overall TC is making a more positive impression.

I agree with you on ball handling and defense...the problem is turnovers and steals don't show it. I know steals are about having the right opportunities and TC COULD get picked by a quicker guard in the future with his high dribble...but until that happens? TC has quick hands and great instincts and that could be more productive than long reach and quickness IDK. Cronin knows what he wants so we will see.

About the only reason I can think of starting GG over TC (at this point) would be how often each makes a mistake which causes our D to break down to help. I don't know how often this is happening TC vs GG but it has to be enough to offset greater production in the rest of the game.

Theoretical...If TC causes 5 breakdowns on D and GG causes only 2...and the other team scores twice (4 pts) on those extra breakdowns...can TC make up for that. He's averaging 1 more point/game, 1 more assist, 1 more steal, and .5 rebounds. That would equate to about a dead heat to me...but I don't know how often TC is making mistakes or getting beat on D compared to GG.

I would prefer TC's composure and unflappability right now if their O and D stats are a wash. He was just more composed in this particular game in a hostile environment. He made FT's, mades some big outside shots that were pure, and you can't smell nervous on him at all. All this could change but his last couple of games he's looked really good. I would give him a shot.

I really wish Mick wouldn't pull young guys the moment they make mistakes. Someone mentioned that earlier in the thread, and sometimes I wonder if that has anything to do with our offensive woes year after year. It was the same thing last season... Cash, SK, and Parker were the only guys not afraid to make a mistake. This season, replace Cash and Parker with Rubles and JJ. You can't win games against good teams if more than half your rotation is afraid to be aggressive on offense.

Once Lawrence and Troy get some more playing time this team will look drastically different. It's early, let these kids develop and they'll get better throughout the season imo. Games this early in the season aren't exactly fortune tellers.

Exactly correct. Who were all the sages who said JL was a one and done? They're pretty quiet all of the sudden.

Yeah, I never understood that one. With how little organized basketball he has been able to play the last couple years, it was highly unlikely he would come in that fully developed. If he was ready to be a one-and-done player, the Kentucky's and Duke's of the world would have been all over him.

As it stands, I think he is going to be a fine player, and his early-season struggles are to be expected. If I had to put money on it, I think he will be here for 3 years. When he learns what to do with the ball in his hands and cuts back on the fouls, I think he will become a 15-10 kind of guy. It won't be this season, but he will give us at least one spectacular year before he heads to the pros.

Troy Caupain is obviously going to be the biggest contributor this season. His athleticism isn't overwhelming, but he is crafty and plays beyond his years. I think he could end up being the best pure point guard we have had here in a very long time.

Kevin Johnson is too raw offensively to play big minutes, but he will stay in the rotation because of his defense. I think he'll have a career similar to Dion Dixon when it's all said and done, which I think we would all be very happy with.

You're much more optimistic than I am. I think he'll be here all 4 (assuming he can muster the academics). He needs to bulk up, learn some sound fundamentals on both sides of the ball and improve his percentages. The 4th year will do him wonders if he hopes to get to the NBA.

If he stays 4 years, even better for us. He's already contributing, so he can only get better from here.

You're judging all this from 8 games??

Well, I can guarantee he's not one and done, but only speculation how long it takes to make him an NBA prospect. He's certainly not better than SK, and he's no lock for an NBA draft pick. There are so many good potential draft picks out there in his size bracket, he needs to drastically improve year to year. I'm all for taking the money early because you never know when injury will end your chances. But if you don't make it, and/or have based all your hopes on it, you're going to be one tall "greeter" at WalMart.

I am not sure but I could go back and check. There are only a handful of one and dones every year...not 25. Lawrence has mad skills but he's not even close right now with execution. He could be after year two but we will have to see the progress.

I think Kevin Johnson will be ok as the season go on he's playing better and better every week and he's fearless and competitive and he has basketball IQ give the kid a chance .

I think Kevin Johnson will be ok as the season goes on he's playing better and better every game he's fearless and competitive and unselfish and he do not turn the ball over his shot hasn't fallen everytime but it's lookin better he went 2 for 2 from the field I think as the season progress he will be a key piece off the bench for us.

I hope Johnson has a much better career than Dion Dixon. I liked Dixon, but in my opinion he kind of underachieved. I think Shaq is the new Dion Dixon. Lower bball IQ, unbelievable athletic ability, suspect shooter. Dion was a good defender by time he graduated and an excellent rebounder. The word is still out for Shaq on those things. I assume he'll improve in those categories as he's only a sophomore and I hope he'll develop into a scorer. Dion had more strength than Shaq will probably develop(different body type). KJ is a little smaller and his athletic ability is quickness rather than leaping ability. I think he'll develop into a good shooter and he already has shown the ability to defend well and uses his body well to get shots off around the rim. I think by their junior and senior seasons KJ and Caupain will be studs.

A couple games ago, KJ had his head up near the rim on a 2-hand jam. I don't think he's lacking in leaping ability... from what I've seen, he's up there with Guyn, Shaq, and JJ as the most explosive leapers on this team.

I think KJ will be a really nice player... I just don't ever see him being an efficient scorer. I hope he proves me wrong. I think he is already a terrific on-the-ball defender and will continue to improve in the press/team defense.

I have high hopes for KJ. He really looks to me like he has a natural ability to score.
