Is shooting 41% from three the last 19 games.

Thought it was worth mentioning since there was at least one person convinced he'd never be a good shooter earlier in the year...

He has a nice shot so maybe he can be a good shooter in the future.

But here is the issue with small sample sizes. Yes he has shot 41% from 3 his last 19 games. And he's shot 34% from 3 his last 20 games.

You're exactly right on the small sample size which is why I brought it up.

People were convinced he couldn't shoot after 5 or 6 games earlier this year.

What impresses me about KJ is his ability to score around the basket. Maybe the trees were underestimating him, but I've seen several times this year he's recovered loose balls or rebounds and scored around big men.

So you started a new thread just to tell someone I told you so.......that's cool.

I agree. The thing that impresses me is his speed. He is so quick and I think this helps him be able to finish around the rim too.

so to convince them otherwise you use a 17 shot sample size?

even if KJ never develops to be a good 3 point shooter, that doesn't mean he can't still be a good player. nothing at all wrong with being a slasher. so even if he ends up being closer to a 26% shooter than 41 %, it's no big deal.

I hope he takes his offseason seriously because I think him replacing sk is his job to lose

I'll be very interested to see how he and Morman compliment each other at the 2.

KJ hasn't played a lot, but he always seems to know what he is doing and where to be. I think his future is very bright.

It's a 27 shot sample.

If you read reports from people who watch him practice, or just watch his form in games, it seems pretty clear KJ will be a solid 3 point shooter. He has good form and seems to know when to shoot and when not to. Maybe not in the 40% range. Who knows. Obviously 27 3's over 20 games or whatever isn't much to go on.

But it seems pretty clear by now that his horrific start was more about him settling into the college game playing for his hometown team.

Johnson is probably the quickest player on the team with the basketball. He can get to the lane pretty much anytime he wants, his problem is once he gets there he tends to not know where to go next. Once he realizes he can drive and dish to an outside shooter he'll be an effective weapon.

Things I find most impressive about Kevin are his defense and the fact he isn't afraid to shoot the ball. Lots of freshmen are afraid to make mistakes and forget their ability to make a play. Kevin has made mistakes at times but not because he is lacking in confidence. He will be a key contributor next year. He has skills and isn't afraid to use them.

You're right. He looked extremely nervous the first few games of the season but has really come into his own.

Your math and my math do not add up. The 17 shots was his 19 game streak of shooting 41%. The 20 game stretch of 34% is of 23 shots.

Anyway it really doesn't matter, both sample sizes are too small to get any idea of the real shooter KJ is and can be.

I just hope KJ focuses on the parts of his game that will make him the best player he can be. Whether that is hitting 3's or not, it really doesn't matter. I'd just hate to see him go the Dion Dixon route and try to be something he's not.

Didn't KJ start the year 0-15 from 3. He is now 11-42 which would make him 11-27 since, which is 40.7%.

he did start 1-15 in his first 7 games, but the sample the OP quoted was from the Nebraska game on. 20 games is from Chicago State on.

No doubt 10/27 is a huge improvement.

Kj will be a very good scorer, the thing I like best about him is his ability to move without the ball, troy will get a lot of assists kj's way

Your right and with more experience he be able to be very good at creating his own shot with the ball in his hands. Not to many guys on this team can do that.

Caupain and Johnson have played very well offensively when they've been on the court together. Both do a good job moving without the ball and getting to spots on the floor they are comfortable scoring in. I know Guyn will likely start, but from a talent stand point think about this line up next year:

G Troy Caupain (SO)
G Kevin Johnson (SO)
F Shaq Thomas (JR)
F Jermaine Lawrence (SO)
C Coreante DeBerry (JR)

That could be an exciting lineup to see and there will be time to grow as they will all come back the following year!

I was thinking in the Rutgers game how pretty his shot looked. People were too quick to write KJ off early. Kevin Johnson is going to be a very good basketball player at the University of Cincinnati and has been able to watch Sean Kilpatriack for a season and learn what it takes to be a great player.
