2011 signees: 20
Top prospects: Safety Gerod Holliman has the right size, speed and instincts to be a big-time defensive playmaker. Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is a dual-threat guy who is already enrolled and will challenge for the starting job right away. His Miami Northwestern teammate, Eli Rogers, can get behind the defense and gives Louisville a dynamic target in the receiving game.
Needs met: Head coach Charlie Strong worked wonders in his first year, but that 7-6 team relied on a whole lot of seniors. This is a program that still needed a drastic upgrade in overall talent level, and that's certainly what he and his staff accomplished. Last year's team lacked weapons at receiver, and Rogers and DeVante Parker help in that area. Louisville also needed a quarterback after starters Adam Froman and Justin Burke graduated, and Bridgewater could be a future star.
Analysis: What's not to like about this class? Strong and his assistants used their roots in Florida to pull some blue-chippers out of that state for one of the most talented overall classes the Cardinals have ever signed. Just about everybody in the class is rated a three-star prospect or above, and there are three ESPNU 150 performers. Recruiting like this will bring Louisville back to the top of the Big East sooner rather than later.
What Strong said: "The foundation has been laid for this program. Now we were able to recruit young men to come in and be a part and fit into this program. We wanted to recruit speed and mentally and physically tough kids. We are not going to take a step backwards. We laid the foundation, and now we are going to build on it.”
