As some others have said, Gates can be frustrating at times, but he can also be very good at times. Obviously the former outweighs the latter, but he is still pretty young and very talented. Remember how much better shape he came in this year? I would expect the same next season and I expect to see improvement on the court. In reality, it seems there is no recruit out there to fill his shoes that we can bring in at this point. Dismissing him makes the team worse next season. I like the idea of having one of the coaches stay on him all the time, forcing him to improve or quit (obviously, I don't want him to quit though). Is George Jackson capable of this? My guess is no since it seems he hasn't done it already.

When Wilks and some of the guards outrebound Gates time and time again..you have to ask yourself why? Seeing him race down the court offensively is frustrating when I don't see the same effort to get back on D. Maybe he needs a different coach, system, or better leadership within the team.

I think the concept of learning from an upperclassmen that's been through the fire time and time again is one major aspect of the rebuilding process that is slightly overlooked and majorly under appreciated... when the great 'Cats of the past came in, they had guys to study and learn under...

BUT... someone has to be the FIRST to step up and just know how to do the right things on and off the court... where is Mick's leader going to come from?... Deonta Vaughn stemmed the tide during the transition period but we'd all agree he wasn't that guy... can anybody on the roster right now (or who could potentially be on the roster next season) be that guy?...

And for those of you a little more, ahem, experienced... than me... can you think of who it was on the first couple Bob Huggins teams who really "Got it" and played the Bearcat way and showed the leadership and intangibles needed to stand out?
