Joe Lunardi still has UC in as an 11 seed. They're dropping but still breathing. They'd play 6 seed Missouri and the winner of Florida/Bucknell in the East. St. Johns is up to a 7 seed and the Big East still sporting 11 teams. The overall weakness/parity across the nation is a huge benefit to the Bearcats.

At this point the game Wednesday is- and I know we hate this term- a must win.

I don't think anyone can truly argue otherwise.

I don't have a lot of faith in the Bearcats right now but if they can find a way to get 2 out of 3 against Louisville, Georgetown, and UCONN at home plus get one at either Providence or Marquette (easier said than done), they will be in without much worry. Lose 4 out of the next 6 and we will all be sweating come selection sunday.

Oh no- someone will. Que ralph coming to the thread in 3 2 1...

I said truly argue otherwise.

A lot of people around here take Ralph far too seriously. I think he's funny personally- and you know what... when he's not being his usual Ralph self he actually makes some decent points every once in a while and I think he really does have a strong knowledge of UC athletics and history.

I think it's critical but not a must. I think they have to get 2 games in some combination from Gtown, UConn, and Louisville. If they could get 3 they will probably be cool. My faith too is down a bit. I've never seen a team tank so fully offensively than this team has. Nobody is shooting well. They are missing wide open shots and bunnies. Keep thinking at some point 2-3 guys will start shooting well at the same time.

If you're talking about their chances to make the tourney, I will argue otherwise. It is pretty clear at this point that 9-9 in league (along with avoiding an upset to a Depaul/USF in BET) is what it will take for the Bearcats. Obviously, beating Louisville makes getting there much more likely, but I think there are definitely paths to 9-9 that don't include a win tomorrow.

I understand the must win comment but it is not a must win. We still have Gtown twice and Uconn. So many opportunities to lable this a must win IMO.

I do think it a game we could win thus making it very important.

I respectfully disagree. Do any of you TRULY see a scenario where this team would be able to COME TOGETHER after a loss tomorrow? I think tomorrow's game is the tipping point one way or the other...

I already think the mental aspect is a challenge for this team after that STJ game. Losing again Weds might make it even worse. Nobody is claiming that losing Weds doesn't make the path harder. It certainly does.

Even so, they can win @Providence because pretty much all year when UC has scored, they win. They won't have problems scoring on Providence.

Confidence and the ability to come together changes so fast in college hoops that I think once they grab one win it can steamroll in a positive direction quickly. This team has played really well at stretches this season and has been struggling big time lately. This would be the right time to get hot for a team capable of it. Whether that happens Wednesday or Saturday isn't as important to me as the fact that it needs to happen. It needs to happen this year. And it needs to happen in time to get this team in the NCAA tournament.

Very good post. Losing wears on a team and erodes confidence. That is exactly what I see with this team right now. I did see a glimmer against SJU though. It appeared to me they shot with less hesitation. They didn't make the shots but it appeared they weren't hesitating like they were. They still need to attack more. Particulary Dixon and Kilpatrick but I liked that part of what I saw. You have to think at some point shots will fall. Let's just hope on the day they do that the defense shows up as well.

Boeheim bristled afterward as he responded to criticism of the Orange's mounting losses after an 18-0 start to the season."I think people think the season's over. The season's over when we play 18 games in the league. We still have four more games by my count," he said. "We lost four games to teams in the top 15 in the country. I think if we keep things in perspective, we're probably a little bit ahead at this stage of the season. It rains a lot here. Sometimes I think we need to keep perspective a little bit."-Jim Boeheim following the Syracuse win over West Virginia Monday night.

Could have been said right here in Cincinnati.

From the AP

Can we put Michigan St. out of the bracket now?

They lost to OSU tonight and are now 14-11 and 6-7 in the Big 10.

I think it's over for us. Another season ending with an NIT. I really liked our chances too....we'll be lucky to be 8-10 in conference play. We can't beat a top team, and we got 4 games left against top teams.

Nah....I'm sure they'll probably have Michigan State ranked next week...becaue they lost to a top team. They'll definitely make it over us.

I've lost all faith in the Bearcats....the West Virginia and St. Johns games were must wins...we choked...choked again like the previous two seasons.

If they weren't already, Marquette probably just saw its hopes die. St. John's beat them by 12 tonight in Milwaukee.

I watched the entire second half, and St. Johns really played well. They physically dominated and imposed their will. Marquette had issues on the glass, which is definitely in our favor.

We let two golden opportunities pass with losses to WVU and SJU. It really stinks, but we still control our own destiny.

While hope may appear slight, we still have some games to prove our worth. We need a win against Louisville. 9-9 has us dancing folks, but we need to starting winning some of these close games.

Market still has some very winnable home games. SJU is basically a lock now, considering they still host DePaul and USF, plus home game with Pitt and @ Seton Hall.

Marquette has a favorable schedule too, so they aren't out of it.

Once again, we NEED to beat Louisville. It will take a big effort and some freaking offense, but we can do it.

They've got some winnable games down the stretch. That game for UC @ Marquette in a couple weeks looks like it's going to be HUUUUUGE right now.

While some of you will focus on Mick Cronin, I will focus on the players. Their effort, their attention to detail, their teamwork, and how they interact on the floor will tell me everything. In particular I will watch Rashad Bishop, Larry Davis, IT, and Darnell Wilks. Don't think Biggie will play much due the the quickness of the Cardinals but I may be wrong. Darnell could be big in this game if he avoids stupid fouls. His athleticism will be needed. This is their last go round and they need to start owning this team. Whether corporately or one or two stepping up.

I'm hoping they take no more than fifteen three point shots and attack the basket. Louisville will foul an attacking team. I'm praying Yancy comes out motivated but focused. Nobody on the Louisville team is a physical match for him. He should be embarrassed by Sunday's incidents. He can't stand flat footed at the foul line and try to play defense. Dixon needs to show up as well. If his shot is off DRIVE! No matter what your offensive game is like play defense and rebound Mr. Dixon. You can still contribute!! I'd also like to see JP get some minutes at point instead of Dixon.

We Need this game far worse than Louisville. I'll be watching to see if the players want it that bad.
