Was disappointed with the last play call. Troy had five pts going into that possession, evans had 25 clark had 26 one of them two should have gotten that shot. Gary had the game winner last year against UConn and freshamn year should have had the game winner against xu so he can get it done. Evans played like a man that second half(needs to play like that constantly) was hoping he got an iso at the end. Also this team needs to learn what a two for one is at the end of halves, 50 seconds left in first half you go down get a quick shot then get the ball back very simple

-side note we do not win that imo without that crowd, players fed off it. Actually hope temple packs their areana next game. Fun game proud of the effort to come back we score. Kj really stepping up gonna make his senior season count good for him

I believe Caupain said the last play was for Clark but he couldn't get him the ball.

I'm not worried about making the tournament. That will happen. If it didn't, I'd be absolutely livid.

I'm worried about getting a good seed, and being set up to make a run. As so many have said around here, the last couple years have burned us by getting that 8/9 seed. The real best-case scenario in that spot is you win one tournament game. Woo. I want this team to have a fantastic regular season (no more than 5-6 losses), get a 3-6 seed, and have a nice path to the sweet sixteen. Hell, even if you look at our sweet sixteen appearance 4 years ago, that team had early season losses to Presbyterian and (ironically) Marshall. Both insanely winnable games that we choked, and even though we beat 8 (!!) ranked teams from January-March, we couldn't even get back into the polls and ended up a 6-seed. Luckily, we were good enough to still reel off a couple wins, but I'll always wonder what would've happened if we were fully focused in those two games and went into the tournament with that resume. That's a 27-8 record playing in the old Big East. That's a 3-seed. And considering how good we were, I think an elite eight could've happened with that seed, if given a good draw.

I guess my whole point is, it's not *just* about making the tournament. It's not *just* about getting hot in March. You have 4+ months to set up that March success. Dropping one at home to Marshall would severely hurt that, and would put a ton of pressure on winning even more AAC games.

Good post! Seeding is a big deal! Anything but the 5 seed...lol. They get knocked off by 12 so much and even if they don't...#1 is waiting. 6 seed is much better. But of course we are hoping for more. For similar reasons I don't want to be the 4 either. That's a sweet 16 matchup with a 1 seed. Give me the 2 and 3 seed side (if I can't be #1)...much better chances...I'll take the 6 if we can't get top 3. Looking at a longer run would be best avoiding 1 seeds as long as possible and let other teams knock them out first.

Not only is seeding important...we usually get hosed by the committee with matchups..last year wasn't bad though.

By saying it should not have to take a loss to improve implies his team does have to take a loss to improve and it should not be that way. I just really thought last night was odd. I've noticed it around this time of year every year too.

It's coach speak. I think he's implying a loss is sometimes a big wake up call attitude wise. It's not going to improve anyone... Hopefully make them play harder. However, getting scared by a mediocre team at home...and still winning, is best case scenario. Attitude adjustment for free.

I would take 1, 2, or 3 obviously. 4 and 6 are a wash for me. 5, 8, 9...no thanks. I would probably rather be a 7 than 5... maybe another wash.

Fun game. Interesting that Washington sat most of the second half. Mick must have been pissed with him.

ya because his defense has been so bad lately one weak link in that matchup zone and ur in trouble especially when its ur big. cronin didnt name his last night post game but he pretty much said he wont play unless his defense improves immensely and that hes not even trying to learn basically. no doubt we were better with scot on floor defensively by far

On The LV Sportsline (radio show on ESPN affiliate in Vegas) yesterday they came back from commercial with the radio call of Caupain's game winner. Then they talked for a minute about how exciting that game was.

He did suck. Stats don't paint a whole picture, especially when you cherry pick them. He was 3-14 from the field, and 1-5 from the line. His defense was terrible. Yes, somehow I think he only had one turnover miraculously even though he was careless with the ball against a team that doesn't press and doesn't play tight defense. He constantly had his shot blocked because he continues to double clutch everything. I'll give him credit for sticking with the last play after his first missed shot.

As for rebounds, not sure why people point to rebounds as some great indicator of performance. I'd much rather let my bigs get the rebound and have my PG half way up the court for the outlet. But have you ever seen UC make an outlet pass to Troy? Nope, because he is always standing underneath the basket. UC had a major size advantage, they didn't need Troy in there rebounding.

I like Troy. But he sucked tonight. No other way around it. He needs to start playing better for UC to have a chance at all this year.

This is so absurd I am just going to bold it and leave it.

For a very good defensive team like UC, guard rebounding is absolutely crucial.

iF you play good D, you in turn force up bad shots, bad shots generally don't land under the basketball on the rebound where your bigs are boxing out. Bad 3 point shots bounce out of the box or even out to the perimeter.

Its why UC is one of the worst teams at defending the offensive rebound. We generate a lot of terrible shots that require a lot of guard help to rebound them.

Its insane people don't understand the value of a good rebounding guard. Add in that, yes, Troy didn't play his greatest game defensively and its obvious his shot was bad tonight, but uhhhhh the dude won the game on a GUARD REBOUND IN THE PAINT!!!! Man had he just been out there on the perimeter where he belongs, we lose. Troy is a stat stuffer. He doesn't let his bad shooting affect his rebounding and passing. He still rarely turns it over as well.

Great post.

2 team 6 pt teaser Seattle -1.5 and Dolphins +10.5

3 team 10 pt teaser NE -7, Browns/SD Over 33.5, Bengals/Texans Over 32

Surprised to see you take bengals Texans over. Both defenses are better than the opposing offenses. Gonna be a grinder I think.

I had just got off work, hadn't even checked the score lol. But yes it is very low, rough year for the bengals.

Soo maybe the bearcats will get more fan support now that every team with Cincinnati in their name sucks. The bearcats might be our best team right now(f Xavier, they don't count )
