I agree, Rubles is frustrating, but he was the #2 JUCO player for a reason. He is a better dribbler than you give him credit for, his problem is that his shot is so bad that people wait for him to dribble and dare him to shoot. He has shown ability to finish around the rim, but teams wised up to his awful shooting and it caused the rest of his game to suffer. Also, he is a good rebounder and made some really pretty passes at times. Getting him a better shot will improve his game leaps and bounds, IMO. Him throwing, I mean, shooting a basketball looks like Tim Tebow throwing a football, not pretty or smooth at all.

As I said he can be effective if he learns to play wihin his skill set.

I think many of you on this board will be very surprised when you see Titus shoot next year. "IF" he puts in the effort, he could really improve. The kid needs reps and will get that this offseason.

Reps and a few minor adjustments will do. Just think, he is actually filled out and doesn't really need much more weight training, unlike pretty much everyone else on our team. Physically, he had the size to compete right away. Just needs some seasoning to help him continue to get better....

Right and remember..there are plenty of players with ugly shots that can really shoot it. It's all about putting the work in the next few months.

Most of us were surprised when he shot it this past year....Rubles work needs to be close to the basket. He has good hops and has pretty good post moves. Obviously he needs to finish better but I'm hoping a year to get adjusted really helps.

i really hope Rubles can play up to his potential...but i cannot agree with everyone saying that he has shown flashes of finishing down low...he had the 3rd worst FG% last season, only ahead of Gaines and Epp...and i would venture to guess that he had one of the higher attempts per game as well...in my opinion, he only showed that he can rebound and was above average from the FT...and to be completely honest, i will be happy if he focuses on only rebounding and getting to the line next season...his ball handling is average at best, and i do not want to see him dribble at all...i want him in the post and in the paint rebounding, and thats all...i will be happy if he plays a solid 4-5 position...maybe i am blind or ignorant when it comes to scouting/reviewing skills, but i just do not see what everyone is talking about...i hope he progresses and i hope he is a beast on the boards next season...

Go Bearcats!

Lance
Shaq Thomas
Yancy
Rubles

Those are the 4 most talented players to come through UC so far. Kinda sad, but definitely that will be improving with this year's class and future classes.

well some will point to his 10 seed team and be happy with it. the offense? yeah, not going to happen under his watch. 7 years of horrible offense isn't just going to change. even with his "best class". that really ain't all that..

why weren't his teams at murray st. horrible offensively?

Last season the offense looked horrible because they couldn't make shots or finish. The season before you had 4 guys avering double figures and a 5th almost at double figures. What UC needs is shooters who can open the floor. Otherwise, the other team shadows SK and makes someone else beat them. When you have Dixon, Cash, SK, Yancy and Parker, you had 5 guys that could score, not counting a Davis that could come off the bench and knock you down some threes and get some steals. Coaches look so much better when players can make shots.

And since they recruit those players and give them the offensive system to play in it makes sense that the Coach looks better when they make shots. And it makes sense that the coach gets the blame when they don't.

Its easy to blame missed shots, but on a team full of inconsistent shooters why is the only means of an offense...Jump shots??

Zero transition game and zero offensive scheme is what hurt this team. They missed shots out of rhythm. Id guess that over 40% of our half court sets resulted in a 3 without getting the ball passed the 3 point line or coming off a screen.

I read an article from November on how Mick implemented a more fast paced offense. I saw nothing close to that

Right, if this was such a bad shooting team then why did they lead the league in 3 point attempts? Perhaps that isn't a good idea for a team that apparently can't shoot.

10th in the BE in 3pt Avg! Not exactly something to rely on. I didnt even want to research where we stood overall

In November Mick probably couldn't conceive his post players would be this bad. If you remember this style was 1 point away from being 13-0. Then went to Pittsburgh and beat Pitt at the peterson. Changing your offense halfway through the season is not a wise move especially when your winning. Until cash got injured we wre fine. Heck we even beat MarQ. without Him.

So what youre saying is the offense is just fine?

Without a post player and 3 solid guards with, all talented Rubles, isnt that even more of a reason to run the floor?

Injuries played a huge part in this season. Some people here want to dismiss it but it is absolutely true.

The 2013-2014 season will be successful if the PG position solidifies itself, Shaq Thomas becomes the scorer we saw at the end of the year and at least 2 freshmen are able to contribute on a regular basis.

What I'm saying is that prior to the injury to Cash we were functioning to the tune of 13-1. We even beat a very good marq. team without him and played Syr. very tough at their place. I don't think changing the structure of your offense was a move that would be beneficial that far into the season. It takes time to perfect a flow at this level. As it turns out after the injury Cash and the offense weren't nearly as effect and we were limited personell wise and the staff determined it would be better to stay as is. Coach who has a much better understanding of his team capabilities made the decison. your assesement that we should have changed is speculative and you not being a D1 level coach and having limited access to his practices I side with Micks decision. If you disagree with that so be it.

I didnt say anything about changing the offense. That is what Mick said was going to happen and we'd see a differenc, PRIOR TO THE SEASON STARTING. Even before Cash got hurt, we had no transition game and we hit 3's. My argument has been we are an inconsistent shooting team. You cant rely on that to win games, cuz like we saw, when they arent falling you are in serious trouble

The team this year should be better offensively. (This takes into account a lot of assumptions though)

1. SK will be back
2. I expect Shaq Thomas to take a huge leap and average close to 15 ppg.
3. Lawrence should have an immediate impact and be able to score. I would guess 10-12 ppg as a freshman.
4. Rubles should be more efficient
5. This freshman class has more offensive potential than last years and could possibly help immediately.
6. JDIII can shoot. I don't know what impact he will have but it could be significant.
