The outstanding season we've had will go a lot further in uniting the fan base than a conference coaching award. Mick hit the motherload this year. Championship, all american, coach of the year, over-achieving results, noticable improvement in players, seniors showing love for him, etc. Everything he's earned this season is well deserved. We're not going to always have all-americans, or championships, or coach of the year awards, even in great seasons, but if he can sustain a level of excellence that's consistant with what we have seen this year...or even better....on a long term basis, it won't take long for the fanbase to be totally united behind him if they aren't already.
Next year will be pivotal. On paper, it potentially looks like a significant dropoff. Making the NCAA would make most fans fairly happy when thinking about the roster next season. After next season, the future should really be bright. If he can bridge the gap between this season and 2016 with a decent season next year that leads to another NCAA berth, then he'll keep the momentum moving forward and be ready for blast-off. Anything less (i.e. NIT) might be an issue with many fans and keep the nay-sayers chirping.
