Mick Cronin AAC Coach of the Year

Agreed. Program and coach garnered little respect yesterday. Very few picking us to even beat Harvard. That's embarrassing. These two wins are a must!

Beating Mich. St. is a must? Let's not be unrealistic. If they win, it would be a fantastic story and great upset. Hell, if they even hang with them for 40 minutes i'll be impressed. Saying losing to Mich. St will somehow negate everything Cronin and this team has accomplished is just foolish.

Lol! This forum never ceases to amaze me. It builds up Mick Cronin to elite status, but then every time we're to play someone with an ounce of talent, nobody wants to predict a victory and starts claiming moral victories if we even just hang with them. What a joke!

The experts have already begun the process of negating this season yesterday. Even the lowly A-10 got 6 seeds. Our conference champion and tournament champion got only a 4 seed. Everyone on TV was predicting Harvard to beat us. We've been told in this forum continually how great the whole nation thinks of Mick Cronin, yet they don't think he is enough of a coach to defeat Harvard????

In case you don't know, last week in the AP poll, we were ranked 13th and Michigan State 22nd. In the coaches poll this week Michigan State is 13th and we're 14th, and you have the balls to suggest it would be a fantastic story and a great upset if we defeat them...lol...and you'll be impressed if we even hang with them for 40 minutes! This is classic lack of confidence in the coach, setting the bar and the standard so low that it would be impossible for the game result to not appear as a success, so you can then continue to toss out superlatives about the coach to the masses.

About 3 weeks ago, we had a two and a half game lead in the league, with a home game against Louisville to seal the deal. From that point, we finish 2-2, we were 5-4 in the last 9 games, get blown out by 21 to a team that didn't even make the tournament, struggle to barely beat C. Florida and Rutgers in the last week, play our way into sharing the conference title, get knocked out after one difficult victory over C. Fla. in the league tournament, and fall all the way to a five seed.

So yes, I believe we need to win these two games to validate this season. We need to shove these two victories up the asses of all the so-called experts and doubters out there.

Michigan State is 9-2 to win the National Title. They have the second highest odds behind Florida at 4-1.

No. Just stop it. You realize Michigan St was a 4 pt favorite on a neutral floor Sunday vs Mich? We're gonna be at least a 6-7 point dog if we play them. Seems kinda dumb to blame that on Mick when if we had drawn SD St or UCLA as our 4 seed the spread would be close to pickem. Them's the breaks.

AP last week: UC 13th Mich. St. 22nd

Coaches Poll this week: Mich. St. 13th UC 14th

Them's the facts.

Gameplan and coach us to a victory Mick. Them's the expectations.

Since when do polls determine the truth strength of a team or expectations? Talking to you is like engaging with a 9 year old. I think you'd be a happier person if you just never posted here again and became a fan of another team.

Those are facts but those aren't all the facts. The facts are MSU is one of the most talented teams in the country, they have not been healthy all year and now they are. Izzo is arguably the best coach in the country. He has taken every senior class he has had to the final four. Those are facts you forgot to mention.
You gotta be realistic when analyzing these games and the realistic POV is that MSU is a monumental challenge. I think we will beat Harvard and I can't wait to find out how we do against MSU. I'm excited for this week!

I definitely will be disappointed if we lose. Not only these two games but any tourney game. I'm predicting right now we beat Harvard. MSU will be a tough assignment. We have had a nice season to this point but I want more and I'm sure the players and the Coach do as well. We have already exceeded expectations for this season but if your asking do I want more the answer is yes.

Probably some of the most ridiculous comments I've ever read on any website. My post literally had NOTHING to do with coaching. There is simply a large gap in overall talent.

I hate to break it to you, but all the "experts" aren't taking a jab at Cronin when they pick Harvard or Mich St., they simply know UC is not the most talented offensive team. You hear nothing but praise when analysts talk about Cronin as a coach.

Mich St. is an elite team right now, is UC? Nope, so yes it would be a great story. Saying that losing would be due to the fact that Cronin didn't draw up a good game plan is just straight up comical. Please tell me what planet you live on where saying "i think i can" enough times means you should win.

Listen to Kevin Ollie's post game after Friday's game, "coaching is overrated, this is a players game". Every loss somehow being linked back to a perceived lapse in coaching is a pathetic cop out.

So the reverse must be true that people that would like to see Mick ousted set the bar too high so that it would be impossible for the game result to not appear as a failure?

There's always an excuse on here why we won't win. Again, I believe everyone wants to paint a bleak picture so there is no possibility at all to question the coach. It happens on almost every game that might be a tough one (i.e If we lose, it's expected....if we win, it's Mick's amazing coaching). All year, I've read nothing short of superlatives about Mick on here. One guy even posted he is a Top 5 coach. I had difficulty figuring out which great coaches he was ahead of on that one, but he was definitely ahead of a bunch of elite coaches by being in the top 5.

We've been in the top 15 for 8 consecutive weeks. We have a top 5 coach. Yet nobody wants to give us a shot at being in the top 16 a week from now. That shows quite a lack of confidence in the head coach to find a way to win to me. Very strange for a site that has extreme confidence in his coaching wouldn't you say?

I'll admit that keeping this team (with this lack of offensive talent) ranked in the top 15 for 8 straight weeks is nothing short of an amazing accomplishment. I'm actually very intrigued to see him coach a team with high level talent, but until he starts recruiting some, we're always stuck waiting for 3-4 years before they blossom. Next year looks like a downturn again. That is why winning these two games is critical in my eyes.

lol....so 22nd ranked MSU last week, and 13th ranked this week, has suddenly blossomed into an elite level team (who is ranked 13th)? And Cincinnati, that was raked 9 spots ahead of them last week, and 1 spot behind them as we speak, is nowhere in the vicinity of them in reality. And, the experts are calling for a loss because....."they know UC is not the most talented offensive team". What about our defense? Did the experts forget about that? If the experts know we have no offense, why on Earth did they rank us as high as 7th in the nation? Your making no sense dude.

And lastly, I'm setting the bar too high when I believe our top 15 rated team should make the top 16? Your posting gets funnier by the minute.

You're an absolute clown bro. You take the rankings that serious? If you cannot understand that MSU was #1 before they got hit with injuries then there is nothing I can do for you. I'm starting to wonder if you even watch games or take a peek at the poles each Monday and head to the boards to spout some bull shit. You probably have a Huggins Fat Head in your play room so why don't you tune into ESPN and root for him....in the NIT. Crazy that he couldn't draw up a good enough game plan each night to win the Big 12. Must be a bum coach huh?

We get it, you don't think Mick is the guy...get over it

Dude, you're fading fast. Stop before you embarrass youself any more. Let me summarize. So, you're giving us no chance to beat a team that we are sitting side by side with in the polls, who lost to North Carolina, the BE juggarnaut Georgetown, an unranked Nebraska (who we beat by 15), #2 seeded Illinois (oh wait....that's #2 seeded in the NIT), and the team with a worst offense than us.....Ohio State. Is that the team you give us no chance to defeat and would be a moral victory if we just stay close to. By the way, their loss to OSU and Illinois were within the last 2 weeks and to Nebraska within the last month. Can't believe you give Mick so little credit to be able to overcome such an unbeatable team.

Siding with L-T here, you'd think we already lost both games the way some people are talking here. You know who cares about ranking? The general public. if it looks good on paper, you should win, and when you do you gain that respect. When you don't, you get the "see? Told you they suck" that we are oh-so accustomed to.

Let the game be played. If they have the will to win, they'll win.

LT I've agreed with your premise even though its been over the top (as it usually is). The way you speak about Michigan State lets me know you have no idea what kind of team they actually are. All of the stats you are listing are so misleading in regards to who Cincinnati would actually play. All the experts are picking them to win the whole damn tournament. Why? Because they are the most talented team in the country. The entire year they have battled major injuries to several key guys. It would be like us losing Justin or SK for significant lengths of time. They were preseason top 5 and would have stayed there if Appling and Payne dont have those injuries. Watching them last weekend they showed they are every bit as talented as any team in the country. UC can beat them but it has to be the best game they've played all year. I agree you gotta win in March but lets not be completely irrational in the other direction if UC gets knocked out by the Spartans.

Well said. Of course UC could beat Mich. St., and I hope to god they do but there is no doubt that it would be an upset. I'm more upset about the fact they might have to play them so early. Losing to Mich St. does not mean that UC is not a top 16 team in the country, L-T. You're just so unrealistic. Every point you make against Mich St. is not representative of the team now, they just beat 2 final 4 contenders pretty damn easily in 2 days. You're anti Mick agenda gets in the way of all the nonsense you post. Losing to a team like Mich St. would by no means diminish what this team has accomplished.
