This is horrible. They slammed UC and used them as an example of schools who just care about money because they are actively campaigning to leave. How would they feel if everyone else got a pay raise/promotion at ESPN and they didn't? It is just human nature to want to be in a better situation. I agree that this alignment crap is stupid, but UC definitely didn't start it and would've stayed had they not been abandoned.

Those two are douche bags. I can't even listen to them any more. Dan Patrick is a much better sports radio show than those two buffoons. That said, UCONN and UL had been doing the same thing for MONTHS. These guys are tools.

I think more importantly they both were using UC as an example on how ridiculous everything has got. UC publicly announced their "campaign " which is ridiculous but sadly it is necessary. They also make really good points about how a lot of schools don't even make big money from football and talk about schools like Maryland cutting six sports to gain entrance into the Big 10.

Yeah, I understand. But it feels like they never report on us until something bad happens (campaigning fo ACC, crosstown brawl, etc.). We are treated so poorly by the national media, it is ridiculous. I don't hear anyone making an example out of Louisville, I'm positive that they were also actively campaigning.

I agree I just think since UC was the last school to make it publicly known which was like what...yesterday? It was easy for them to use as a source so they don't actually have to do any work. I kinda feel like UC only did a public campaign like that to show our fan base that they were trying to leave the BE so we can't say they weren't doing anything.

I don't think our campaign needed to be public. We can campaign, and have been for the last couple of years, without making it clear to the incoming members that we definitely want out. Not that it wouldn't be ovious at this point but still.

In this regard, I don't have a problem with Mike and Mike using us as an example. The effort should have been made to keep it private. Now all of our cards are on the table and we have little bargaining power.

Campaigning for the last couple years? Greg Williams loved the BE and refused to look elsewhere, which has really hurt us, in retrospect. If we would've had a plan early on, there would've been no need for a public campaign.

From what I can tell, this is true. Also, it was critical that the fan base knew UC was not standing by doing nothing during all this. Making it public was more for the fan base than anything else. Mike and Mike can still bite me.

ya its funny that Mike Golic would say anything about money and conference allignment, considering he is a huge Notre Dame fan, and the only reason they arn't in a conference is because of the deal they get from NBC to televise all of there games, I don't see what the problem is to want to better your University in everyway possible anyways...

How does it make UC look now that they didn't get an offer? They shouldn't have been 'campaigning' publicly for anything.

Okay, Greg Williams, we should just sit in the BE and let it crumble around us. Our fans needed to know that we weren't gonna get stuck in the Blackhole that is the BE now.

Yes, but the Athletic Director made a call to ACC representatives. That's all that needed to be done.

Joining the Big 12 would have been a better option (more money from football revenue, better football competition, improving basketball competition). Not only have we possibly perhaps offended members of the Big East (and provided validity to the western schools who wish to leave now) we sold out the Big 12 as well.

So we may now be stuck in the Big LEast.

Do you really believe that a feeler hasn't been sent out to the Big 12? Shit, they probably put a feeler out to the Big Ten just for the hell of it. There is no downside to telling your fan base you want the best for your programs.

I wouldn't count on UC being stuck. We're the nerdy chick, we'll get picked just late.

The Big 10 will still continue to expand, the ACC isn't going to have a GOR.
That however, brings up another problem. What happens when we go there and they go through the same osmosis that has touched the Big East?
The Orange Bowl tie in is good for 10 years. Would the Orange renew it after that?

This isn't the first time we have heard a statement from the brass at UC. We have heard before that "we aren't sitting idle waiting for things to happen...we are positioning ourselves as much as possible". When we were adding all those teams to try to save the Beast...I think we had a letter from the Pres to calm fan nerves. If you think we haven't had private discussions with other conferences in the past...think again. I am not saying they were or were not extensive but I think certain other conferences are/were well aware that UC is open for discussion.

Making it public...I think is a big mistake

Please explain the downside to making it public. UL made their desires public and landed in the ACC AFTER trying to get in the Big 12. I don't see the harm.

The ACC looks to be falling apart. If we join after campaigning, then we may end up in the same place as before.

First off...you alienate the conference you are in and compromise its future in case you get stuck there. Secondly, you have played all your cards...the acc knows we we r always there as an option begging to get in

I think going public is the necessary evil. The Big East is going to crumble regardless of what UC does or doesn't do publically. No one is joining the Big East because UC is standing strong with it. You go public so your fans and donors know you're playing your hand, especially when you need those donors and fans to help build your brand. I think it's a little embarrassing, but I think it's all UC can do at this point. No one is beating down our door to come to their conference.
