Come on, NTS... you are just as negative about the football team. I am right there with you bitching most of the time, but you of all people shouldn't pull that card.

Lol no doubt Robert! I'm not bashing our team by any means because I have faith they will grow into the roles. My big concern is where are we going to get post points? I don't see Strickland playing at all and DeBerry will be used lightly as well. It's something we haven't had basically since Yancy.

Guys are finding their place and their way. Some good things tonight if you look.

Caupain had a good line all the way across. Ellis giving us points from the line and rebounding. Cobb found his stroke. Clark had 8 rebounds. Sanders was solid.

Good test tonight and the team will keep getting better. Hopefully, Shaq and KJ HOPEFULLY GET GOING! The team is beginning to take shape. Caupain and Cobb looked good in the backcourt and minutes are still out there at the 2 and 3 if someone wants them..

Listening to the post game on 700, Cronin seems just as lost/frustrated/confused with Shaq. He said if there is one player he has to get going its Shaq. He said you would think he never practices with him with the way he plays in games.

On the bright side it's not like shaq could play any worse so I guess it can only get better...? Right??..Right???

Cobb was a huge surprise to me but I don't know how sustainable that type of performance is. What scares me with him is his defense seemed pretty bad, and that has me worried Mick will get too frustrated with him and slash his minutes.

Cobb is awesome. Bearcatboy is a genius.

Haha
I tried to tell everyone this kid if for real if he could just get some PT.

Mick only played 8 players good minutes, I think that may continue all year.
Main guys:
Cobb, Caupain, Guyn, Thomas, sanders, Clark, Moore, Ellis
Bench guys:
Johnson, Morman, Deberry, Strickland, tobler

I thought Cobb's D was pretty good most of the game till the end.

Obviously Cobb won't do that every game, that was an SK performance. But he can create his own shot and be a zone buster, drought stopper. He's got a smooth game. Kind of looks like Boatright out there.

Hopefully KJ and Mormon can get some more minutes, I think Cobb and Caupain were in a nice groove so Mick didn't mess with it.

You say obviously but right now, who knows? Maybe he's our secret weapon.

Our "seniors" are really disappointing in this young season. It seems like Guyn is just ready to graduate and be done. Sanders and Thomas are just blah...

I know how guyn's feeling if that's the case hahah

This was a good win for our young team. It wasn't pretty but they probably learned a lot. MSU has a lot of vets that played really hard. They fought for every ball against us and we had some new guys step up and respond.

I agree...Cobb made some sharp passes to break the zone and was hot from 3. Mick had to keep the hot hand on the floor.

There were a lot of good take ways from this game. Cobb played his tail off. We can rebound and block shots with our length. Our defense will only get better.

Unfortunately, our offense still looks as lost as ever, especially once Morehead went zone. We really suck at feeding the post, which is the big reason our bigs didn't score more than they did. If you don't have guys who are pure scorers, you need an effective offense system to help them create shots. We passed ok tonight and luckily the 3s were falling...but we didn't score a 2 point field goal in the second half for several minutes.

Also, Creighton just beat a solid Oklahoma team tonight (OK is ranked 18th) and we might see them if they can beat Ole Miss. That would be another good test.

As far as post passing...this will come in time. Do not get yourself in a tizzy over that, at least not yet. It has traditionally been absent from our gameplan as we've lacked the tools to make it work. We now have those, but they are young or new, so it will take time to get that going. I'd say by mid December we should see some wicked inside-out play, mark these words.

Nice early season test. Still need to work on getting ball inside. Guyn and Sanders contributed a bit. Shaq is lost.

Caupain's line could have been better but he missed 5 FT's early. On the bright side he was drawing fouls and driving to the basket.

Cobb looked very good on both ends. Nice shot and handled the ball very well. Between him and TC they had 1 turn over.

Clark hit the glass.

Ellis was steady but I wish he weighed anotherr 20lbs.

Team is winning but still looks exactly like what they are. A bunch of young or inexperienced kids playing together for first time. It should get better the more they play. The big question will be how much progress can they make before the schedule gets tougher.

Cobb and Ellis definitely look like the two best players out there. Ellis has been the most consistent but even without his shooting Cobb seems the most composed on offense (him, not Caupain was the one that knew how to break the press). Add in his deadly range and he needs to be on the floor at all times. Hopefully last night gets him a start.

Guyn and Sanders did very little. Still not sure what Guyn adds to this team. Sanders is okay for an occasional wide open 3 but that's about it.

Shaq is incredibly disappointing. I know Mick says he doesn't pull guys for bad shots but he should and Shaq should be pulled every time he takes a 3. Why does Mick pull players for turnovers when a bad shot is the same thing?

Caupain has been disappointing me so far this season. Even though his stat line was good last night he never looked like the floor leader. He took some bad shots, made lazy passes, and still looks too slow. I'm confident he will turn it around because he impressed me last season.

I'm hoping KJ needs to get a rythm going because so far he hasn't done anything to deserve PT. Same with Morman.

All big guys except Ellis look really slow. I like the potential of Moore but it's going to take some time. And I hope I'm wrong about Clark but I do not see what the hype was about him. He looks slow footed, timid, and from watching him shoot in warmups he doesn't appear to have any face up game. At least he looks like he can rebound. I'm waiting to see the athleticism we all have been hearing about. Hopefully he is just having a slow start while he gets his legs under him.

Clark does rebound. Moore can shoot. Unfortunately, Ellis is the defensive glue for this team and when he is not on the floor we really miss something.

It is still early, but if you have two guys that can score inside you need to be able to pass to them. Heck, I'd have Moore float to the high post and keep Ellis down on the block since Moore can shoot and likes facing the basket.

Agree that shaq has been horrible. However a turnover and a bad shot being the same thing is a cliche that needs to disappear. Turnovers score zero points. Bad shots occasionally go in.

Some % of the time we also get an orbd off the bad shot.

Shoot before you turn it over is probaably not the worst plan given how bad our offense is.

We're also never going to have a good offense either until we start to push the tempo consistently.

Shaq seems to have gotten worse over his 4 years here. He just doesn't seem to get it. All of his shots were bad attempts. And he isn't aggressive. Get the ball on the wing make a quick move to beat your man and take it in for a layup/foul/dish or that pull up jumper he has shown flashes of

Clark can rebound that's for sure but he half ass calls for the ball on offense. I want to see him throw his elbow into dudes ribs back him down and call for the ball. He hasn't done that once

Caupain didn't look like he did much but his stat line was pretty impressive

Cobb can shoot. He needs to be on the floor

Morman has to stay out of foul trouble if he wants to play. Same with johnson

Sanders will have these kind of games. Hit some big 3s. But then have games like the other night and do nothing.

Ellis is the best player on the floor hands down. Can hit free throws and has a nice soft touch down low

Ellis is the most valuable player right now on our roster. Before last night I was thinking that Cobb just looks like he's the most comfortable of all the guards to create, shoot, and score. I think he might be a better PG and SG than Caupain but the combo might work well together. Cobb is obviously good at shooting but he's also the best at breaking down a defense off the dribble. Caupain is great at passing because of his length but our offense has been stagnant for years. IMO we haven't had a good enough PG to break down a defense. Caupain isn't a good enough ball handler or quick enough to do anything but move in one direction (which he is great at and passing and getting to the line). Cobb is shifty though...there is a big difference to what that can bring to an offense. One direction point guards are easy for a defense to flow with. A shifty PG keeps them guessing...is he going this way or that way. Cobb has a pretty good mid range and floater too...maybe not as great at getting to the rim.

I like what Clark and Moore bring to the table. Moore offensively and Clark defense and rebounding. Moore has every aspect of the offensive game. Clark has a great nose for the ball and athletecism. Not sure why Moore passes up the mid range jumper...I think we pass up WAY too many of those. That's a coaching issue that needs fixed IMO. We focus on 3's and getting to the rim to get fouled (which is good) but we shouldn't be doing that by passing up wide open looks from mid range.

We aren't going to change what Sanders and Guyn bring to the table...it's too late. Mick has asked Thomas to be more aggressive but if Thomas won't do it...then it's time to focus on the future.

We are going to need minutes from Debarry or Strickland at some point in foul trouble but fortunately Ellis is pretty smart about that. IMO we need one more guard to step it up (or both) between KJ and DM...and I think they both will. We have seen what KJ can do last year and both of their defensive assets will be needed if KJ can stop fouling.

Ellis Cobb and Caupain need to be on the floor right now. Clark and/or Moore. Right now the other spot goes to Thomas by default. I prefer a player who can (has the ability) manufacture some offense like Thomas, KJ or DM for those final minutes
