My "ban" from BCN

BearcatTalk

Help Support BearcatTalk:

I don't doubt that for one second.

Definitely a quality person that cares about UC athletics.

BA1, I don't take compliments well so cut it out, ok? :D

jk, but I also agree that the moderators on this site have done a fabulous job so far. I feel bad for Lobot because it seems like everyone is bashing his baby (BCN) but I think it should be said that it is not a reflection on him at all. I know I was banned once on BCN for foul language and I think it was after the WVU Big East Tourney debacle and while I was mad at first, a rule is a rule and I broke it. I am glad that Lobot feels comfortable enough to post over here too because I think he has added a lot to Bearcat discussions.

Jason, To be honest it's not my baby at all. I have no ownership slice or monetary gain from BCN. I volunteered to do moderation becuase I had the time, they were having a huge traffic increase and then in turn recommended Shaun Simpson and then London 'Cat who I've known since Calhoun hall. If the site died tomorrow I would mostly just be bored. I admit we are heavy handed on some things but I follow Keith's lead. BTW despite some people's opinion, Keith is a great guy. We sat together at the Sugar Bowl. There we watched our rear kicked back to Fla. Also hung out with Austin Bearcat, Richard K. and Jon Breiner. Austin brought Willie Nelson's niece who had lots of SWA drink tickets. Nice flight.. Lol

I dont think most people think Keith is a bad guy but I think most disagree with how he runs the site.

For a while until I volunteered he was the only one running the site. The server admin rarely visits the board anymore. Keith has his idea of what should be and as a volunteer I followed his lead for better or for worse. I don't regret that. Ddi we let in too many crap posters. Hindsight yes. That being said you don't don't know those things until they start posting. We were very open in our registration policies. One of the big things we had a problem with was people subverting their bans by establishing a 2nd or even 3rd accounts (RALPH!!!) to get around the original ban. Then you have start banning by IP to keep control.

Lobot, I know I'm not a moderator or a sight owner of any kind, but is there any tips that you could give these guys? I love the sight and hope people continue to post respectfuly, but also give their opinion. I feel like here, no matter the opinion, people can have fun.

Do you have any suggestions at keeping this place the way it is? Again, I don't do anything for this site but post here, but maybe those in charge would always consider suggestions from someone who has been there in the past.

Lobot...you're banning people onto our site.

This isn't Thunderdome, Escape from NY, Nakatomi Tower, or Mordor.

(Not sure what those four have in common, but ya get my drift) LOL

OK, so I know the first 3 references (nicely done), but I'm completely in the dark about Mordor - what's that ?

I am the Lord of the Rings.

(I'll actually yell that once in a while just to make my little guy laugh, and my wife cringe). Haha

Unfortunately, as the site grows, the baiting will be here. The biggest problem with any site or the internet in general is the ability to say anything truth or lie without any repercussions. Many people will post things anonymously that they would never say to anyone in person. Does anyone even read the posts/comments to the Enquirer articles and blogs anymore? Lobot, thanks for your efforts over there, I know it wasn't easy or even fun anymore. It sure wasn't fun reading anymore. Hopefully now that I have found this place it will add a little to my "sports fun"!

I think people are too quick to criticize other sites and don't know why it is done. I don't know if these sites cost a lot to run, but I do know they don't bring in that much money. There is a strange need for one site or the other to be the "best" and that just hurts them all.

The scout and rivals sites are all dead, but do offer good national info. BCL has the best original content for UC fans anywhere. Tim and Chad do a very good job there and Scott Springer is Scott Springer. There is a big difference in what they do and what goes on anywhere else, but that is also why it cost 100 a month. If you want to hear what goes on with practice and get direct contact with recruits than it is worth it. I am not the person who needs to hear recruiting news first so that isn't a big deal to me, but knowing what is going on with the teams and who might represent my university is important to me.

I have experience with boards, and I assure you that I have full intention of keeping things the way they are. I ask that all new members respect each other, show civility, and attempt to stay upbeat.

It's ok to criticize, it's another to beat a dead horse.

I agree. I'm not in competition with any of the UC sites. I started this because I had a vision of what I wanted to see. You can get different info from all the sites, so there is plenty room for UC boards. I think Greatone and I are trying to make BCT as good as it possibly can, and we certainly do want to be the best non-premium UC board. But that's not for us to decide, but others.

And don't get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be the best site out there, but I feel like some do it at the detriment to others. Hopefully there are enough Bearcat fans out there for each site to thrive.

I totally agree. I'm not interested in taking down or harming another site, and growing ours at the expense of others. Apparently, BCL doesn't see it that way (not that it will effect us, of course).

I have always said good things about BCN and their top people.

I think it is great that sooooo many posters have expressed their feelings on this thread.

This is a prime example of the openness and commitment to improvement that is a constant on BearcatTalk.

I have read BCN; but am not a member, I consider it a tame site; your always going to have cultural clashes between the Pollyana's and the doomsayer's of the world.

I love debate that is honest and open based on facts that can be truly thrown back and forth and not just raw emotion. Differing opinions is a good thing and there is merit in them all. Most are weary of the past/present argument and just want to move on. I also think on here there is an emphasis on the program as a whole and the future of it.

We all don't have to agree on the how we get there. but I think by and large, on this site, we are all in mutual agreement that we want UC to excel in all ways. I got the sense on other sites that some wanted the basketball program to fail so they could say "I told you so.".

Bearcat Talk kicks %&*.

Recruiting information is great. Mods are tops. Not too many jerks around. Keep rocking on.

It may be a tame site by internet standards, and I would agree, but I think the biggest issue for many was that every thread was hijacked by the same 10-20 posters trying to spread doom and gloom and making it impossible to discuss anything about the team. I am sure I can speak for everyone when I say that I hope that doesn't happen here. It has been a great place to post and read information on UC athletics.

I just found out I was permanently banned. Not sure what I did, I did send a message to Lobot to find out. Anyhow, kinda bummed. I did "beat a deadhorse" for a while, as you I'm sure know, but I had tried to change my posting since I received a short ban last week.

Anyhow, thanks for this site and I will try to do better here.
