Name the new conference

The C7 made a big time mistake pulling their games from ESPN and putting them on Foxsports1. They have severely limited their exposure.

Any suggestions for the name of the UC, UConn, Temple, Memphis, SMU, Houston, USF, UCF, East Carolina, Tulane conference?

How about the Big Metro American Conference?

It would be known as the Big MAC for short.

Man, I hate that conference in terms of b-ball.

As if this disappointing b-ball season wasn't enough to take, now we have to look forward to playing in that crappy conference.

I hope we get an ACC bid soon, if ever.

They will be more or less equal, neither is really better than the other. Both are mid major conferences.

The Power 5 Conferences will continue to dominate college basketball. Since the BCS started in 1998 only BCS schools have won the NCAA tournament.

I appreciate the response. I agree they will be roughly equal, I don't mean to make it sound like the new Big east will be head and shoulders above the America 12. I do think they will be slightly better overall. The top will be about even. UConn, UC and Memphis are strong. So are Georgetown and Marquette. I think the bottom will be weaker than the bottom of the new Big East. I also think the Big East will get more pub as the name carries more weight. I think teams like St. John's, Villanova, X and Butler will have the chance to really grow their programs. Even Creighton. With so many good teams in the current Big East it was hard for a team in the middle to really make a name for itself. Outside of the big 3 teams mentioned above and Temple I really don't see any team that will elevate their program in the America 12 to the next level. Houston (I believe they're in the new conference) has some history, but I just don't see them doing much. Central Florida, South Florida, SMU, Tulane, I just don't see it.

EDIT: Another point, I think keeping the Big East name and MSG will go a long way in recruiting and thus why I think some of those programs will grow.

I wonder what MSG's rights are to end that relationship and bring another conference to MSG. My guess would be if it's do-able, they'd want the ACC there instead of the Catholic 7+.

That's an interesting thought. If MSG could, and I don't know the contractual stuff, you'd have to think the ACC would be a more attractive option. Syracuse could lead the charge on this.

Presumably they could break the agreement because the product they agreed to is no longer the same and arguably substantially worse.

McMurphy officially announces "American Athletic Conference". I am actually ok with this. I guess the AAC is as close as we can get to the ACC right now.
