NBA DRAFT

Just want to go on record saying if he goes I don't blame him, I love the player he has been for us thus far in his career with UC, if he does go, I hope all the best for him in the NBA, however if he does come back I will be overly excited.

I'm about 50/50 wither he will stay or go.

He needs to do what he needs to do however, I think I speak for everyone when I say there's absolutely know bad blood from anyone if he decided to leave for the draft.

Mick's and SK's comments have given no indication that he's even considering leaving. We need him desperately next year, not only for his skill but for his leadership too

I'm as NBA ready as he is. I love him. Class player and person. No showboating, no in-your-facing....just the epitome of the type of player we want this program to be about. But seriously, I'll lose a ton of respect for him if he leaves, because not only will it spell doom for us, it will spell doom for him. He has zero chance to play in the NBA now. In a year, I still don't see him being good enough to play in the NBA, but he's a very effective college player. As Mick once said, he feels like Sean will be a great coach one day. He doesn't have the speed either offensively or defensively to compete in the NBA. He's a different player when he rushes his shot and that will only be more prevalent in the NBA. Lastly, his ball handling is borderline abysmal, especially his left hand.

Selfishly, I definitely want him to stay. Realistically, that's his only option, unless he wants to go overseas. Unfortunately, with the demise of the Big East, no chance to play in New York City or Madison Square Garden in this new league, his age, the way this year played out, losing his running mates Cash and JaQuon, who knows, he may still leave. But, with all his warts, he's still someone that I enjoy watching and am proud to call a "BEARCAT".

Why is SK and NBA draft in the same sentence?? The guy is not ready. Slow, ball handling needs work, and very inconsistent behind the arc.

Exactly. I wans't losing sleep over this, but crazier things have happened. Like some joe schmo from Providence declaring....

The criticism of Sean on hear is brutal. I agree, he'd have a tough time making it in the league right now, but he has some admirable traits that could push him through. Hes a big guard - he has improved every year since being here, he went from a no name high school player to an All Big East performer, when he was calm, he was the best 3 pt shooter weve had in awhile, he's a scorer, even when you dont realize it, he drops 17. While he's not ready, some of you make it seem like he is the worst player to come through UC,,,

Nobody is really criticizing him. He just isn't NBA ready. He is a very good college player but still has lots of room to improve. Nothing wrong with that.

6-feet nothing, volume shooting Russ Smith just declared for the draft... as a SG! If that guy's declaration can be a top story on ESPN.com, then SK and the NBA draft can clearly be uttered in the same sentence. The 2013 draft class is AWFUL!

SK made a very smart decision IMO. Not only is it great that he will earn his degree, but I think he will have a great senior season and a better chance at an NBA career.

I don't know why but for some reasom I see SK coaching at some point. Maybe it's his bond with Mick but he seems to have a genuine affinity for the school and program as a whole.

Two big differences....speed and ball skills.

SK is cut from a different mold. He's already had a very good career and he's done it with total class. I have mad respect for him as a person. I hope he continues to work hard and caps off his career with a tremendous senior season and I'm sure success is in his future, if not on the court, then maybe as a coach, or whatever field he chooses. He just seems to have maturity that you don't see very often in college athletes.

I can see that happening sooner than many would think.

He isn't going to improve his chances dramatically to make the NBA going on 24 years old. I really commend his decision to earn his degree and to have a back up plan to basketball but with such a small window to earn good money overseas, I am a little surprised he is coming back. With that said, I am selfishly happy I'll get to see him another year as a Bearcat. True embodiment of the program under Mick: under recruited guys that have a strong work ethic.

A little different case with Russ Smith, he has already made 2 final fours, won 2 BE titles and a National Championship. Not a whole lot else for him to accomplish at the college level. He made a name for himself during this tournament, and will make a nice living playing ball overseas.

Great post...agree completely...his age will hinder his chances a bit when it comes to the NBA...

My thoughts exactly. My argument with him was always he is as good as he's going to get in the NBA's eyes so leaving now would mean slim chance for the NBA and back-up plan overseas, but getting paid now rather than a year down the road. With that said, I am selfish, my loyalties lie to UC and I am glad he's returning.

Since we know he is coming back there are a couple things I'd like to see him improve. 1-- QUIT FLOPPING and quit bitching to the refs, the refs lose respect for you and it throws you off your game. 2 -- use your mid-range game a little more rather than looking for the three ball. I don't see his handles improving dramatically at this point, so just be smarter about dribbling into double and triple teams or dribbling into the corner and/or a looming trap. He's not good enough to dribble his way out of these. I think with a better point guard, SK's talents could be used better. I loved Cash, but he simply did not create for his teammates. SK is a true shooting guard in the sense that he can score in a variety of ways, but he can't really create on his own, especially when defenses can collapse on him. When he gets the ball behind the arc, there's not much he can do to get good shot off. He either forces up a contested shot or he puts the ball on the floor and gets swarmed by the defense. Hopefully whoever we have at point next year can create opportunities for not only his set shot, but giving him the ball in situations where he's moving to the hoop and has a one or two step, one-on-one opportunity to use his body to get a shot towards the hoop or get to the line. I really think he could be effective in this regard, but we've never had the point guard to make it happen.
