New Coach

Brannen is a home run hire. I'm a UC diehard, but also an NKU grad who has watched what he's done at NKU very, very closely. He's a great coach, does a great job making adjustments in game and has done a fantastic job of help players get better year to year. I can't fathom what he could do with more resources at UC.

I would agree. he is probably my number 1. I like the other coaches mentioned also. The Winthrop coach, Furman coach, and the coach at Lipscomb. If you can win consistently at those schools, there is a good chance you can coach. All those guys would be good hires.

Van Exel is the most intriguing but could also turn out the worst. He is the "Euro prospect with upside" in the draft. Could be great, could not be fired within 3 years.

Not impressed by the Winthrop coach (Pat Kelsey's) record. I'd be okay with Bob Richey at Furman and Casey Alexander, but I don't see either of them as any better then Brannen coaching wise and Brannen has the advantage of being local (and potentially staying longer term).

My dream: Huggins

My wants: Pitino

My ok withs: Nick Van Exel and brannen

My don’t wants: savino and Matta

I’ll bite. What does Bob Huugins bring to table, other than the fact that he coached here a long time ago? If they go this direction, I’m done as a season ticket holder.

Yeah that doesn’t seem like a great hire at this point. But you asking what he brings is really silly.

If I had to choose between NVE and Brannon then I choose NVE. I am really interested to see the candidates that we can attract. It has been a looooong time since we have been in this position. The last time we had to look for a coach we were in the best basketball conference ever assembled.

Best basketball conference and no team ;)

I have talked myself into Brannen. I was bigger on Van Exel earlier but what Brannen has done at NKU is incredible. They have been D1 for 4 years and been to the postseason 3 times. They are also favored to win their league next year. It is hard to do better than that.

I’m team Pitino. Does anyone still have that picture of him wearing a red Bearcat collared shirt?

The more I think about NVE the more I like what he can do for the “swagger” of our program. I think that is what made UC great to watch under Huggins.

I also would like to see if we can hire Shaka Smart away from Texas. He has a style that I would like to see us play and I think we can recruit to that style.

I wouldn’t be pissed about Brannen but if we are going to mid major route then I would like to see more options. We can’t be thinking “local” when it comes to mid major CBB coaches in a pseudo mid major conference. I just don’t know how he would recruit well enough to stay at the top of the league and get the March success that we need. I don’t want to take a step back.
