Question:

How did Greg Youncofski land the Assistant head coach over Savino and Jackson? Just curious how that works because I felt like Savino or Jackson would be next in line.

Savino was promoted to co-associate head coach with Larry Davis back in April.

Low expectations. Maybe a suprise. Tre Scott the key.

I think we know roughly what we are going to get from Scott only you can double his minutes and maybe see a slight uptick in FG attempted. I think we all know what Brooks and Ellie can do as well.

I think the key to the season is going to be how we use our guards/wings and how often we play with 4 of them on the court. I don't think we can run long with 4 guards if Jenifer and Broome are out there. So I was hoping to see more of Broome, Cumberland, Williams and Moore/Fredericks...with Scott on the floor.

If tre Scott is the key to success... we are in a world of trouble.

Not sure I agree. Kid has gotten better. He is active on D, makes good passes from the high post and has started shooting a nice little jumper. His development is pretty key. Obviously we will go as far as Cumberland and the guards can take us, but with development, I fully expect Tre to the the 3rd best bearcat on the floor most games...or at least the 3rd most impactful.

I think Tre Scott proved a lot at the end of last year, he is going to be solid.

The guy I’m looking to step up is Trevor Moore, we need a shooter to spread the floor he’s got to be the guy to do it. He’s going to be left open this year, he needs to make shots, I think he can do it but he hasn’t proved it yet.

Big IF here, but IF our guards...primarily Broome, JC, Jenifer, and Moore can hit at a decent clip from 3 we might be pleasantly surprised at our success. 4 guards that can hit and 1 mobile big could be fun...assuming we run. A lot of teams recently have had success with the 4 smaller, 1 big lineup. Of course that will be dependent of how we play and IF we can knock down jumpers consistently. I know a lot of you assume we will play a slower half-court game, and history says your right, but that scares me. Im not saying we can't play from behind with this group because there are a ton of unproven players, but I'd rather not play from behind.

Here's hoping for a little more uptempo...

The more I think about the 3 players we lost the more I think about the intangibles they provided on the court. We didn't just lose their point production and/or defensive ability. Washington was a vocal and emotional leader. Evans and Clark were very good on both sides of the ball and were very good at helping direct other players where to be on the defensive end. They had 3 and 4 years in the system and understood it very well. They took care of the ball for the most part and didn't make a lot of bonehead plays.

We can get some emotion from Moore but he may only be on the court for 15 mpg. We need some leadership and energy out of the players who will be on the floor the most. I think Cumberland and Scott have to assume these leadership roles and maybe Broome can help get us charged up.

Leadership and team chemistry can probably help decide the fate of about 5 close games per year.

I hope we receive details on UC's scrimmage this weekend against Notre Dame. Excited to see the starting lineup. My guess is
Jennifer
Broome
Cumberland
Scott
Brooks

I would assume Logan Johnson will be eating more minutes of Jennifer throughout the season but will still have some of those games where Cronin gets too mad about a freshman mistake that Logan makes and will find the court only 4 or 5 minutes in those certain games. I don't mind Jennifer starting even if Logan is clearly better throughout the year. My as well not ruin all of Jennifer's confidence. He could lose playing time but still be happy he's the starter and that will push him to the best of his abilities versus running all confidence. This is all pending obviously if Logan truly can take Jennifer's minutes.

I think Mick plays him a lot more than people expect. Just because, next year, he will end up being the only PG on the team. He needs to gain experience and Mick is pretty much forced to play him.

Troy Didn't start a single game his freshman year, but played 19 minutes a game because he played well and he was going to have to be a lead guard the following season.

people have this misconception that Mick never plays freshman. But the reality is, he plays freshman if they are good enough to play:

Freshman year minutes:

SK: 21mpg. 1 starts
Shaq Thomas: 11mpg. 0 starts
Troy: 19.1 mpg. 0 Starts
Gary Clark: 28mpg 34 Starts
Jacob Evans: 25mpg 8 starts
Jarron: 19mpg 0 Starts
Trevor Moore: 12mpg 0 Starts
Keith williams 10mpg. 0 Starts

6 of those 8 freshman played 19mpg or more and yet combined to only 43 starts and 34 of those starts were Gary Clarks.

If you're good enough to play, you will play in Mick's system. The chances of starting are slim, but you can certainly earn starter minutes and crunch time minutes.

Right, people get hung up on the starting thing. Big deal. Starters keep the upperclassman morale happy but MPG is more important. Like you said, if Logan can prove he can play, Cronin will play the freshman.

I don't know if it has hit me yet, but the season is for real 13 days away with college bball starting 12 days from now. Unbelievable.

Johnson is going to have to flat out beat Jenifer at the position to get any more than 10 minutes per game. Cronin will probably be willing to use Cumberland or Broome as defacto PG at times.

SK was a redshirt precisely because he had tenured players in front of him at the position. Clark was competing for PF with 2 other frosh. Cumberland was the only backup for Evans and KJ. Moore and Williams were both frosh and someone had to give a breather to Evans and Cumberland on the wing...Broome was mainly playing PG last year.

I think Troy and Evans are the exceptions here. As frosh they beat out the upperclassman because they were unmistakeably better. Evans left after 3 years. Troy is trying to make the league.

I just hope Johnson (if...IF...he is good enough) doesn't have to make it painfully obvious in order for Cronin to pry the minutes from an upper classman. He should just have to be the better player or give us the best chance to win. If they are equal in production go ahead and let the senior play.
