We have no point guard and pretty much nothing else to depend on. SK is declaring for the draft, cuz he's not going to want to play with what he has to work with. Probably a 16-14 or worse type season.

it could very well be.

just hope that the guards develop from now till next year. and that some of the freshman can give us something right away.

i don't think sean will go. if anything he has played his way off the board yhe last few weeks.

Yup, SK is declaring for the draft with how great he has played recently. I could find 100 other people just jack up 3s who would hit a way higher percentage of them than him. He is one-dimensional and would be crazy not to come back. Strickland, Caupain, Lawrence, etc. will only help and Shaq will be heavier. Hopefully, Rubles gets a new shot. We could definitely be better next year, there is no leadership, besides Parker, on this team.

Leadership is the key and you are right, this team has none on the floor or locker room. To say next season is a wash already is crazy but let's be honest it is typical for this fan base. I haven't given up on this one and we're already talking how bad they'll be next year? That's just crazy.

Agreed. Not sure how you can say how horrible we will be already. As much as it pains me, losing Cash doesn't look as devastating as it did a month ago. Mbodj is easily replaced. Parker could hurt. With the guards coming in along with Lawrence and another year for the current players, writing the team off as under .500 next year is absurd.

Count me as the minority that still has hopes for this team though.

Jeff, enough with the fan base crap. It's garbage and you know it.

If someone can talk about how good a team will be than there is nothing wrong with talking about how bad someone will think they will be. It goes both ways.

It's really not garbage at all. Cincinnati sports fans in general are very pessimistic.

As they should be. Cincinnati sports has sucked for a long time. Some of us who weren't as optimistic about this season were pretty much told to shut up and this team is one of the best in the country.

You don't think UK fans have talked about next year at all? Or Xavier fans? Or Missouri fans? It's a ridiculous argument that just Cincinnati fans are like this.

I suggest waiting until Oct. 15, 2013 to start worrying about next season.

I have consistantly tried to be optimistic with everything I post. When I do get negative I try to stay away (one of the reasons I usually do not get involved with the in game threads). With that said it is very hard to be optimistic right now.

It is really weird what people think you can't talk about as a FAN. It's like they think they are apart of the team (a player or a coach).

You guys do know that you are just fans right? You can talk about anything on a messageboard and it won't effect the team? You can talk abotu next year and it won't cause the current players to lose focus (well, you won't be the cause anyhow) on this season?

Many things wrong with your post here...

1. SK going pro would be the biggest mistake of his career. If SK had any ounce of smarts(which I think he does), he would realize that he may as well buy a passport as soon as he declares since he will be going to Europe. I think he stays and works on his game to be more ready for next years draft.

2. What would be wrong with what he has to work with? We'd have Lawrence and Strickland and who knows if Dave or Gaines makes an improvement over the off season. Gaines could still be a decent player down low.

3. We have no point guard? Davis looked pretty good earlier this year before getting injured and Guyn looked like he would be comfortable running the offense plus the guards we have coming in. We will be fine at point guard.

4. 16-14 is ridiculous to even say since we dont know what the schedule is. We dont know who we play, where we play and the fact that Cuse and Pitt wont be in the league with the additions we have coming in do not warrant a 16-14 record.

Amen!!!! People act like we are some sort of horrible sports city because we expect to win and we never do. I've got a buddy who's a die hard Steelers fan and he wants to fire Mike Tomlin because they didn't make the playoffs last year. You think UK fans would put up with this? The freaking Arizona Cardinals fired their head coach 4 years after he took them to the Super Bowl. Yet here in Cincy we've got Marvin Lewis who hasn't won a playoff game in 11 years and Mick Cronin who is treated like he's a freaking God for having accomplished very little.

Having a demanding fan base is a good thing, it's what keeps the owners/administrators from getting complacent. If anything the fans in this city are way too tame and way too accepting of failure and mediocrity.

There is nothing to look at for this team next year that suggests we are going to be a good team. There is nothing to look at with Mick's offense that suggests he's actually going to be able to develop players like Lawrence, Capuan, ect on that side of the ball. There is nothing to suggest at this point that Mick is going to take this program to the next level. He's doing a pretty good job which as far as I am concerned is not good enough. Time he feels some heat, let's all stop sitting around and talking about how great the guy is when the results don't match.

No doubt, no one is arguing that.

Actually....no.....they aren't. They won a national championship last year and every player on their team left for the NBA draft. I can promise you this though, if Calapari went 3 or 4 seasons consecutively without competing for a National Championship even his job would be on the line. It's a matter of perspective folks, and this is a message board. It wouldn't be fun if everyone had the same viewpoints. The whole argument of you aren't a good fan if you're critical of your team's lack of success is played out at this point. It's been 8 years of watching this team struggle to find their way on offense and 8 years of excuses about why we can't do it. I just want to win meaningful games or at least have something to point to for the future that shows me we are going to win something meaningful.

I had high hopes for this team going into the season, with all the returning experience, namely Wright, S K, Parker and JJ. Even Mbodj played enough significant backup minutes last season.

The defense was everything I thought it would be, if not better.

The offense has been atrocious. But I never dreamed that S K, Cash and Parker could shoot so poorly. I really expected them to put the ball in the bucket far better than they did and have. I'm stunned at how bad they have been.

If you look at all the close losses, a few more made buckets here and there would have reversed 2 to 4 losses into the win column. And earlier in the season, I thought eventually things might turn around where the close games started going our way.

But the season has been a broken record of the same mistakes over and over and over and over again. With no fixing of the same problems. I'm disappointed in everyone associated with the basketball program, from the players to the coaches. It's been a pathetic season full of disappointment and frustration. The failure to fix the shortcomings is inexcusable.

I'm already in the mindset of professional baseball and the Reds. And then looking forward to seeing Caupain, KJ, Strickland, Morman, and Lawrence next season, even though Mick probably won't play them anyway since he'll want veteran leadership and focus squarely on playing defense while letting the offense sputter.

I didn't even watch the last 2 games because my doctor said it was bad for my health. :D

Kinda depends on how you look at it really. Expectation were high this year and we are going to end up probably barely making the tournament.

Next year, expectations will be lower, and it will be fun to see what the Frosh can bring right away. Plus I believe they are Cronin's best class, so the future could still be bright.

I didn't say you couldn't talk about it. I said it was typical to write the season off. I have serious doubts they'll make a serious turnaround but there are still games to play. Any team can hit a streak of games where shots are collectively falling. It happens all the time. That could happen for the Bearcats. As bad as Sean and Cash are shooting it could turn. For the record I doubt their mental ability to get back on track. I get the pessimism trust me. I'm pissed about how this team has fallen. I just think it's silly to write the rest of the season off and start talking about how bad we'll be next year, when nobody knows yet how this one ends.
