Did you guys see this? What are your thoughts?

“He’s shot well because of what’s going on in basketball today,” Robertson said. “In basketball today, it’s almost like if you can dunk or make a three-point shot, you’re the greatest thing since sliced bread.

“There have been some great shooters in the past. … But here again, when I played years ago, if you shot a shot outside and hit it, the next time I’m going to be up on top of you. I’m going to pressure you with three-quarters, half-court defense. But now they don’t do that. These coaches do not understand the game of basketball, as far as I’m concerned.”

He also went on to talk about how a guy he played with back then, Adrian Smith (??) was a great shooter too.

He's dead wrong on Curry. What he did last night was simply amazing. He is a once in a generation super star.
They talked about Big O right after half time yesterday too. Will have to go back and listen to it. I somewhat agree. Curry is quick and elusive but they let him dictate. Take Pat Riley or van gundys Knicks teams. They woukd make you earn it. I see so many players where the D let's the person dominate. Where is the D and the PRIDE? I don't mean play dirty but has anyone knocked him on his but? He should have to think twice about going wherever he wants on the court. They at least made Jordan earn it all those years

Just saw highlights from last night. Monster game. Love his game.

Love the Big O. My favorite player growing up. Got to meet him in Ashland,Ky. That said, his continual banter about his era vs today's player is tired. Curry is a seriously good player with a shooting skill that would play in any era. In all my nights at the Garden I never saw a player with his range. Enjoy it Big O.

You may have missed his point. It was not about "Curry" but more about the way the modern game and coaching affects the ability to defend a player like Curry. Where I differ with the Big O is it's not often you have to guard a guy EVERY INCH after he crosses the 10 sec line. Curry is like a freaking "real" game Meadowlark Lemon, a Globetrotter who could hit deep shots from all over the court.

Big O is arguably the greatest basketball player of all time. He has a wealth of knowledge.

That said, I'm not sure he has actually watched Curry. That guy can get and make his shot whenever he wants. He is just an unbelievable shooter. So Big O is just flat out, 100%, dead wrong.

I think it is comical that Oscar tried to bring up one of his teammates as a guy who could shoot too. I heard on a podcast that in 1 year with the 3 pt line, Adrian Smith shot 19% from 3. And Big O is bringing him up in response to talking about Steph? The game is different now for a million reasons. That isn't Oscar's fault. I feel like these older guys don't want to be forgotten so they overdo it when trying to let people know that it was tough out there in their day too. No one can take away what The Big O has accomplished, but he doesn't seem to be doing too well with the evolution of the game. Curry is the biggest game changer of this era. Gotta give credit where credit is due. And you don't have to take away from anyone else to do that. Different era. Different game. Isiah Thomas made comments last week as well...he was a 29% career 3 pt shooter. Does that mean he was a horrible shooter? Maybe. I wasn't old enough to know. But I do know back then there wasn't an emphasis on taking 3s. Especially for a player like Isiah. So it isn't a knock on him to acknowledge what Curry is doing. Just a different era. In the older days, you didn't shoot as many 3s on the season as Steph does from 30+ feet now.

Also, I don't buy for a second that coaches don't know what they're doing. Scouting reports are more sophisticated than ever before. Oscar doesn't seem to understand that...one of his other comments was something along the lines of "these analytics look good when the ball goes in". What does that even mean!?!?

The university needs to step away from O.

He's quickly becoming the pete rose of the reds. An embarassment to the organization.

The athletes the Big O played against are no where near the athletes Curry is playing against today. Some of the guys Oscar was playing against wouldn't even be in the D League today. In his prime he would NOT average a triple double in today's NBA. Not taking anything away from how great he was, but the game has evolved.

They are actual real life "living legends". To question their iconic status to the Cincinnati region is flat out ridiculous.......especially during this era of non accomplishment by local teams and athletes.
I'm not embarrassed to having witnessed the only player to average a triple double or the all time hit leader. I'm more embarrassed by this early exit NIT program on the Bearcat court now.

Far from ridiculous. O is out of touch with reality..

The fact that he gets fre courtside tickets is a flat out joke. Not to mention that he only shows up for about half the games.

Dude is old and has a life. Why would you expect him to show up every game. Oh yea, the product on the floor sucks too.

And he should get free tickets. He earned them.

Everyone loves to compare Steph or Lebron to Jordan...or in this case Big O comments on his era versus the current. You really can't do that and make a valid comparison because the rules have changed - the way the game is played is very different. Also, Steph Curry has ridiculous handles - trying to guard him is difficult because if you play him for the 3 he actually will blow by you and take it to the basket. He make Durant look stupid last night doing exactly that. If you guard him loose, well, he can shoot at half court. His range is absurd.

Look at how physical the 80's and 90's games were compared to now - you can't compare that brand of basketball to the way the game is currently played because any comparisons you try to make will be inherently flawed. In the 90's, guys would dunk on your face or defensively, they'd put you on the ground if you came in with anything weak. You can't do that now or you'd be ejected, fined, or both.

He earned 50k tickets for life? Wrong... dude is so out of touch and has become a grumpy old man completly lost with modern basketball.

Time for the university to move away from the Oscar love fest.

Down with the statue....

What has O brought to uc in the last decade? He doesn't really support the program. Every interview he does is awful and out of touch.
What has O brought this decade ?The Big O cant coach or execute on the court these days.
A better, more important question is....What has Mick Cronin brought to UC in the last decade ? ( an average AAC team ? X dominance ? )That's what you need to be worried about rather than an aging alum. More than likely the Big O is frustrated about the decline of the program. The Big 12 ? Yeah......right.

You sound like a fun person to be around.

"Hey BoomBoomRoom, what do you want to eat for dinner?"

"What do I want for dinner? The better question is what does Mick Cronin want for dinner?? Probably some really fancy lobster thing because he gets paid WAY too much money. For what? It's been 10 YEARS. WHY DO WE STILL LOSE GAMES???????"

Are you people serious? He's a living legend that lives right here in town. I've talked with away fans at games that go nuts just to be in the same building as him. He's mentored and given advise to countless Bearcat players over the years. If you went through half the shit he had to put up with you would probably be somewhat bitter as well...
