Big East will add Navy and Air Force as football members within a week. Louisville has no interest in going to another conference.

Rick Petino has zero say in whether Louisville jumps to another conference or not. It's all about Football and has NOTHING to do with basketball, which makes it ironic that the only talk of realignment has been in the basketball forum. Doesn't matter to me, but thought that was kind of funny.

Yeah I thought about that too. I guess since someone started it here we just left it. You are right that whatever Pitino says means nothing. I doubt he is in discussions with the president of the University about this stuff. I am sure he is briefed, but that is it. Maybe, by going to the media, he is putting is 2 cents worth out there for the UL Administration.

Rick Pitino is God in Louisville, U of L cannot make a move without his approval, in my opinion he is consulted and updated frequently.

Would adding navy and air force really be an upgrade for football? I really don't care since I love the triple option and IMO, when executed perfectly, there is nothing in football more beautiful than the triple option.

As long as the Big East keeps its BCS AQ status it is a beautiful thing.

The Big East has 2 extremely valuable assets going for it, a BCS automatic spot and Madison Square Garden for the Big East Tourney. This is why UC, UL, will do all they can to stay in the Big East.

Not if they could get to the Big 12, if they are looking for teams. Like you said, the basketball isn't really a big deal at all, it's all about football. I could see BE losing it's automatic bid with Pitt leaving. If WVU ends up leaving too, then it would be smart for UC and UL to try to go to the Big 12. I don't see it happening, but I don't see Big East keeping it's BCS automatic spot, adding Navy and Air Force isn't going to help that out.

You go on keep believing that Ralph. But if the Big 12 come calling, you'd better believe uc and ul will be gone, wvu too. That would be regardless of what Ricky P. wants. To be honest, I wouldn't listen to anything anybody says publicly regarding conference realignment, at least right now. Just my opinion.

UC will not go to the Big 12, nor will U of L, if the Big East retains its BCS AQ status as there is no benefit to moving. The Big East BCS AQ is "locked in" through the 2013 football season. Syracuse and Pitt are locked in the Big East also through the 2013 season as they must give 27 months and pay $5 million before they can leave. The 2010 through 2013 seasons will then be used to compute the AQ status of conferences for the 2014 to 2017 seasons, so from where I sit it looks like the Big East is an AQ through the 2017 season.

What is the easiest path to win your conference and get to the Sugar Bowl, etc? Beating Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Texas, etc., or beating Louisville, West Va., East Carolina, Navy, Air Force, Central Florida? Most will say the easiest path will be in the Big East.

In my opinion UC will choose to stay in the Big East as long as the Big East has the BCS AQ which should be through the 2017 season as of now.

I'm not going to argue about the easiest way to the BCS bowl game. You're right about that. But its not about that, its about $$$$$. Bigger TV contract, better bowl opportunities, better home attendance. It's really a no brainer. Hopefully uc and ul sees that IF an invite comes. What's better, getting 20,000 at Nippert to see ECU or 55,000 at PBS to see Oklahoma or Texas? As much debt uc has, I really think this is an easy decision. Although an invite has to come and I know that is no where near a certainty. I'm just hoping.

But hey, maybe you're right and everyone will be happy playing in a revamped Big East with Air Force, Navy, ECU, Villanova, and probably UCF or Memphis. I just don't see it that way though. That sounds way too much like C-USA again. No Thanks!!

UConn to the MAC

This is a paragraph from an article written by Pete Thamal of the New York Times:

University presidents do not mind leaving leagues so bludgeoned that they need tourniquets, but killing one would be frowned upon. The only people who do not realize this are UConn officials, who are tripping over themselves to leak stories about their unhappiness with the Big East, which hurts that league’s efforts to look stable and expand. But UConn, which has no athletic director and a new president, may have nowhere to go. Because most realignment decisions are driven by football, joining Massachusetts in the Mid-American Conference could be UConn’s best available option at this point.

The Big 12 will expand by 1 team to get to 10. They will add BYU, Air Force or TCU. Cincinnati, Louisville, WVU and USF will remain in the Big East for now. If the Big 12 desired to go to 14 (to compete with SEC, ACC) those 4 would be the most likely candidates.
